Chapter 33: Chapter- 33: First Encounter with an Evil Magic User

*a few minutes later*

"Earthbender can’t fight anymore, Young Nightingale wins!"

The fight was completely one sided. Her opponent was earth magic user with moderate abilities, Elena had absolute advantage in terms of both attribute and magic core ability so she won without a hitch.

"I won!"

Elena said cheerful as she came back in the waiting area. Maybe fighting is the only thing that boosts her enthusiasm.

"You did great. I think you will reach the silver rank in a few months"

We are students so we can’t regularly come to the battle arena but once in a while is not a problem

Elena now just needs to win nine more battles to reach the silver rank and honestly, she might be one of the strongest in the copper rank.

After that we watched several fights and it’s finally the time for the first silver rank battle of today. Means it’s time for my battle.

A tall man in red clothes entered the battle ring, he is wearing a mask but by his physics one can tell that he is in his mid twenties.

"And his opponent for today is the fighter no.2, with 2 wins and 0 losses, Albatross!"

I entered the battle ring on the call of the host.

Yes, I have registered with the name ’Albatross’ because all my other choices were already taken.

There’s already an ’Azure Dragon’, ’Sky God’, ’Blue Dragon’ and even ’Leviathan’, because Cerulean City is the base of the best Water magic users in the kingdom and somehow there are also several Wind magic users as well.

This guy has quite some fans. He has won three battles of silver rank without any losses so he must be a strong opponent.

At the call of the host, both of us lifted our magic staff.

Mine is an azure color staff with a white pearl in the middle of its head, embedded between the fin shape design that makes it look like a spear.

On the other hand Flamedemon’s magic staff has a red metallic shade and looks heavier than standard magic staffs.

Both of us simultaneously used our opening moves. I used ’Water Arrows’ while my opponent used ’Fire Balls’.

A few of his fire balls collided with my water arrows while I dodged the rest. But unlike me, flamedemon didn’t dodge, instead he cast another spell ’Fire Storm’.

A torrent of flames appeared before him and blocked the water arrows and approached in my direction.

*This is weird*

Water has a natural advantage over fire but his fire balls were able to equally match against my water arrows and his firestorm also suppressed them.

This is normally only possible by ’Extreme Fire’ attribute but his fire is not that hot, it’s still only at the level of the normal fire.

But then how? Let’s test it.

I activated my ’Horizon Eye’ and cast more Water Arrows.

"Hahaha what a novice kid! Is this the only magic you can use?"

Flamedemon tried to provoke me but I am already more interested in something else.

My Water Arrows collided with his Firestorm as he also increased his magic output to block them.

Then I noticed something. Whenever my arrows collide with his firestorm, the flame on that area faintly becomes purple for a moment.

*gulp*

*Oh god! I just hope it’s not what I think it’s*

I am starting to feel nervous but I can’t back down without verifying my doubt. As I made up my mind, both of us almost simultaneously launched another magic spell.

Flamedemon used ’Fire Line’, pure fire attribute version of ’Solar Flare’. It attacks in a single direction at much faster speed than fire balls.

I countered it with my ’Aqua Drill’ as both our attacks collided in the middle and it became stalemate.

Generally speaking, ’Aqua Drill’ should have beaten the fire line because of its heavier mass and natural elemental advantage but again, the fire line resisted it and this time the purple shade was more visible than before.

*This feeling!....It’s similar to the one I felt that day at the marketplace, though it should be much weather since I can only feel it in such close proximity.*

*It’s no doubt now. It’s the feeling of evil essence*

Although it’s not as apparent as an evil magic user, this flamedemon certainly has an evil essence and it means he is already in contact with those evil magic users.

Now I have two options; first is to go all out and instantly defeat him before he can use evil essence or second is to stall him with water magic and provoke him to reveal his identity.

If I think about temporary safety then the first option is the right choice but it can cause trouble in the long term.

I can’t imagine what evil magic users think like but if I defeat him here then he will probably come after me later.

It’s better to just reveal his evil essence and let the authority of the city handle him.

*Time to put some pressure!*

Putting more power in the spell I launched another ’Aqua Drill’ as soon as the previous one disappeared.

Flamedemon getting startled by sudden attack, couldn’t help but take a step back while resisting with another magic attack.

The flames come out from his staff in a spiraling motion, which creates a tornado shaped blast of flames and resists my ’Aqua Drill’.

It’s ’Spiral Flame’ another single target magic but it has wider coverage in the shorter range compared to the ’Fire Line’.

Unfortunately for him, I am not in the mood to give him a breather as I cast another spell which is similar to ’Aqua Drill’.

Several streams of water are released from my side which are thinner than the previous Aqua Drill but are much harder to deal with as they attacked Flamedemon from several directions.

’Sea Serpent’s Den’

A control-attack type magic, its mana consumption is the same as aqua drill but it requires stronger mental power to control it.

"Wha-! How can a ki-?!"

Flamedemon jumped back in panic to dodge the attack while increasing the power of his ’Spiral Flame’.

"You Forced me to use it! Now you are going to regret it!"

Flamedemon shouted as a shadow of a giant spider flashed behind him.

The next moment a burst of flames manifested on the ground surrounding him, and several strands of flame are released from his side that countered my magic and also attacked me.

This should be his magic core ability, this is probably the ’Flame Array’ ability of ’Volcano Spider’. Its flame is not only hot but also faintly poisonous.

*He is losing his patience. There is already a faintly visible purple color in his flames, if I just pressure him a little more.*

As I thought up the idea, I cast defensive magic ’Water Barrier’ but when those strands of flame touched it, I could feel heat from them as they slowly made their way through it.

First use the water magic to separate oxygen and hydrogen, make two separate layers, then I use wind magic to separately increase their density especially the one with oxygen and....’Ozone Barrier’!

’Ozone Barrier’ is my own creation. It is a two layered barrier, forming the outside layer with dense O3 and inside layer of dense hydrogen.

I spent a lot of time trying to figure out the different types of gases in the atmosphere and finally came up with this idea. I made it purely to counter fire and light magic.

As expected, it successfully blocked those flame strands. Now I just need to hold on, such a magic core ability uses a large amount of magic energy so he will not be able to sustain the attack for too long.

After the Ozone Barrier is stabilized, I started to move forward along with it to reduce the distance between me and my opponent.

"There is no way I am going to lose to a kid!"

"Ughh!"

Flamedemon yells in a furious way as he loses his calm. The purple tint in his flame started to become completely visible to the naked eyes.

"What’s that?"

"Purple flames? I am seeing it for the first time"

I can hear the confused voices of the audiences, they probably don’t know that these are the signs of evil essence, otherwise it had already caused a panic among them.

Soon almost eighty percent of the flame turned purple and started breaking my defenses, so I had to stop right there.

*Mission accomplished. Now is the time to defeat him!*
