Awakening the Useless Class...But I am Secretly the Strongest!
Chapter 8: First Battle"The orcs really had a terrible naming sense."
The Spirit Serpent flicked its tongue, completely ignoring the comment.
Ryan pointed deeper into the forest.
"Go ahead. Scout the area and attack any monster you find."
The Spirit Serpent nodded before silently slithering into the forest, disappearing among the trees without making a single sound.
While waiting, Ryan remembered there was still one reward he hadn’t checked.
He immediately took out the blueprint he had obtained from the Orc Shaman Chief.
As soon as he touched it, the scroll dissolved into countless streams of light.
Serpent Venom Totem (Rare Shamanic Totem Blueprint)
Description:
A permanent Shamanic Tattoo Totem Blueprint that allows the user to inscribe the Serpent Venom Totem onto themselves or another person.
Once the tattoo is completed, the bearer can activate it by supplying mana. Upon activation, the tattoo summons the phantom of a Deep Sea Venom Serpent, which unleashes a powerful cone of poisonous breath at the target before disappearing.
The tattoo could be activated repeatedly as long as the user had enough mana.
"Hmm, this is pretty cool, but I’d need the materials required to make the shamanic ink before I can permanently inscribe the tattoo."
Ryan looked at the listed requirements.
The main ingredient was Deep Sea Venom Serpent Core Powder, mixed with the blood of five different species of venomous serpents, along with several supporting magical materials.
"So permanent tattoo totems aren’t easy to make."
He nodded.
"It makes sense. If they were too easy, everyone would be covered in powerful tattoos."
Then another thought crossed his mind.
"But unlike others I can also create a temporary one with my Totem Creation talent."
Ryan smiled.
Unlike permanent tattoo totems, Totem Creation allowed him to temporarily materialize any totem blueprint using only mana.
The temporary version required no inscription, no ink, and no materials.
However, it disappeared after being activated once.
"It trades materials for mana."
Ryan raised his Orc Shaman Staff and looked toward the orc village.
"Let’s test it."
He poured mana into his staff.
"Totem Creation."
Blue mana gathered in front of him before quickly changing into a dark green color.
A large rune appeared in midair.
The rune slowly transformed into the image of a giant serpent’s head covered with shamanic markings.
As soon as the totem was completed, it activated.
A massive phantom of the Deep Sea Venom Serpent emerged from the rune.
The enormous serpent opened its jaws and released a thick stream of dark green poisonous breath toward the orc village.
The poisonous cloud rapidly spread through the camp, covering everything in its path.
Any orc touched by the poisonous mist immediately began coughing and screaming as the venom entered their bodies.
A few moments later, the serpent phantom disappeared, and the temporary totem crumbled into particles of mana before vanishing completely. Ryan watched the result with satisfaction.
"Great. As long as I keep creating new totem blueprints with my talent or buy more blueprints from the market, it’ll be like having countless different spells."
Ryan nodded in satisfaction.
He had every reason to be happy.
The Totem Creation talent didn’t just allow him to use existing totem blueprints. It also gave him the ability to create new totem blueprints based on the material he puts in.
So, as long as he just put the materials and use the totem creation on them, a suitable totem blue print will be ready.
Every new blueprint meant another ability added to his arsenal.
Some could be used as permanent tattoo totems, while others could be materialized instantly as temporary one-time-use totems by spending mana.
The more blueprints he collected, the more versatile he would become.
Ryan smiled.
"If I keep collecting these, I’ll eventually have a totem for every situation."
"This talent is actually pretty amazing, even if it’s only ranked A."
Fortunately, he was alone.
If anyone else had heard him calling an A-Rank talent "only A-Rank," they probably would have thought he had gone crazy.
In the Origin Tower, awakening a talent was far rarer than awakening a class.
Every person who awakened received a class, but only a tiny fraction of Awakened managed to awaken a talent alongside it.
Talents appeared in roughly one out of every ten thousand Awakened.
Because of that, every talent user was considered a genius, regardless of whether their talent was F-Rank or SSS-Rank.
Most people would treasure even the weakest talent they awakened.
Ryan looked ahead as he watched the Spirit Serpent and the Orc Shaman Chief fighting.
The Spirit Serpent remained on the front line, slithering between the orcs and biting them with its venomous fangs.
Meanwhile, the Orc Shaman Chief stood safely at the rear, continuously casting spell after spell.
Ryan noticed that the shaman wasn’t only using ordinary magic.
Every few seconds, it would wave its staff and create different glowing symbols in the air.
Some took the form of burning lizards that released walls of fire.
Others resembled birds made of lightning that fired bolts of electricity.
Some looked like wolves that created powerful gusts of wind, while others formed stone beasts that hurled massive boulders.
Each symbol disappeared after releasing a single attack.
Ryan watched everything carefully.
"Hmm... so that’s how it works."
The Totem Creation talent had originally belonged to the Orc Shaman Chief, so naturally, it knew many more totem blueprints than Ryan.
Every attack it used came from a different totem blueprint.
Ryan smiled.
"If I can obtain all of those blueprints, my attack options will increase several times."
He decided to try creating a new temporary totem himself.
Closing his eyes, Ryan imagined a creature that specialized in flames.
He pictured a giant salamander with molten scales and a body covered in fire.
Then he activated Totem Creation.
Mana immediately gathered in front of him and begun to take form of an crimson rune.
The rune expanded and gradually transformed into the head of a blazing salamander covered in ancient shamanic symbols.
A notification appeared.
