Beast Taming: I Have an Immortal Mansion
Chapter 523 370: Golden Core Level 4The Golden Core Cultivator known as Kuang Ge glanced at Tu Yuan, who was just about to shrink away, then answered Chu Wen's call and returned to their small circle.
Unlike the other small circles within the grand hall, the Cultivators in Chu Wen's group came from a wide variety of sects.
There were members of the Qi Yun Sect, cultivators from Yangming Mountain, disciples from the Cyan Lotus Sword Sect, and even a few Golden Core Cultivators who appeared to be Loose Cultivators. Each of them carried their own drinking set, taking deep pulls from their cups from time to time.
It seemed this group was treating the Trial as a get-together for drinking buddies. In the center of the hall, they stood with wine flasks in their left hands and cups in their right, reciting and echoing lines of poetry, causing quite a commotion.
In stark contrast to the silence from the Black Wind Valley contingent, Chu Wen's group had become the center of attention in the hall. As they got drunk, their wild sides were on full display. Some even stripped to the waist, while others began chugging straight from their flasks. Their poetry devolved into disjointed odes, full of classical-sounding refrains, which they sang while dancing around.
Fang Qingyuan watched the scene unfold, a trace of envy rising in his heart. 'We're all Golden Core Cultivators,' he thought, 'but the life they're living... that's true happiness.'
'But alas, one person's joy is not another's. I can never truly experience their kind of happiness.'
Fang Qingyuan's gaze shifted toward the contingent from the Beast Taming Sect. The Beast Taming Sect had naturally received many invitations to this grand Trial, but very few Zongshan Disciples were in attendance. Most of the sect's representatives were Golden Core Cultivators from the various sub-sects.
'It makes sense, when you think about it,' Fang Qingyuan mused. 'The Beast Taming Sect's Main Mountain is even stronger than Jixia City, so why would their core disciples go so far out of their way? Besides, the trials at the Beast Taming General Mountain are better tailored to their own people.'
'Any sect powerful enough to create a Land of Trial would surely tailor its challenges to their own disciples first. Jixia City is under the Great Zhou Academy, so it's naturally more favorable for Confucian Cultivators.'
Fang Qingyuan looked over at the Cultivators with the distinct style of the Beast Taming Sect and noticed they weren't gathered together. In contrast to the camaraderie in Chu Wen's group, these disciples from the same sect seemed far more distant from one another.
Fang Qingyuan could guess at some of the reasons. The various Beast Taming Sub-Sects were scattered across the Cultivation Realm, from one end to the other, and their members might not see each other for years on end. Unlike the close relationship between the White Mountain Beast Taming Sect and its few neighboring sub-sects, many of the Beast Taming Sect disciples here were complete strangers to Fang Qingyuan.
His gaze shifted again, landing on a cluster of Qi Yun Cultivators. As his eyes swept over them, a beautiful woman in an elaborate, palace-style black dress caught his attention.
'Her?'
Seeing her, Fang Qingyuan was instantly reminded of his trip to the Qi Yun Territory to request an Array. It was because of her, and the ridiculous incident that had occurred, that he had managed to get out of a jail cell in Qi Yun City.
This was none other than Cao Qingmei, a descendant of the Cao Family from Qi Yun's Five Elements Peak. As if sensing his gaze, Cao Qingmei turned her head and met his eyes for an instant.
But from her slightly blank expression, Fang Qingyuan knew she had likely forgotten him. 'In her eyes back then,' he figured, 'I was probably just one of her little brother's unsavory friends. Naturally not someone worth remembering.'
Fang Qingyuan stopped staring at Cao Qingmei and averted his gaze. He wanted to continue observing the crowd. Over a hundred Golden Core Cultivators from across the Cultivation Realm were gathered in the City Lord's Hall. It was safe to say that the elite cultivators of the past century had all converged here. Fang Qingyuan tried to memorize as many faces as he could; who knew when he might have to interact with them in the future.
However, due to the restrictions in the hall, Fang Qingyuan couldn't extend his vast Divine Sense from his body. He could only observe with his eyes. Each of these Golden Core Cultivators had unique features, and he couldn't possibly identify all of them at a glance.
Seeing Chu Wen's group of Cultivators grow increasingly unrestrained, Jixia City's City Lord, Gui Qingkong, finally emerged from the shadows where he had been hiding. He had actually been there for some time, watching the commotion with an amused smile. It was only when time began to run short that he stepped forward to bring the situation under control.
After dispersing the singing, hard-drinking crowd and casting a spell to sober up the intoxicated, Gui Qingkong spoke.
"Everyone, follow me into the Land of Trial. The rules will be explained to you all in a moment."
Gui Qingkong wasted no more words and directly led the way. The crowd followed behind him, filing out of the hall and flying toward the center of the great lake within Jixia City.
The sight of nearly two hundred Golden Core Cultivators flying together was truly breathtaking. Even for Jixia City, a metropolis home to Divinity Transformation Cultivators and no shortage of Golden Core Cultivators, the simultaneous appearance of such a large group still captured the unwavering attention of every passerby.
Fang Qingyuan blended into the crowd with Tu Dai'Er right beside him. During the flight, she spoke, a rare occurrence:
"The Land of Trial is on Lake Heart Island, where Ancestor Gui Zheng resides. It's a Tier Five Spirit Land. Even if you don't fight for any opportunities, just cultivating inside for a few days gives you a good chance of achieving a breakthrough."
Fang Qingyuan glanced to the side. He saw Tu Dai'Er's formal dress fluttering in the wind, but she didn't turn her face toward him. He understood she was giving him a tip. He gave a slight nod but offered no reply.
'After this Trial, we probably won't have any reason to interact again,' Fang Qingyuan thought. Besides, he felt an inexplicable sense of wariness toward this Female Cultivator who had appeared so mysteriously.
'Tu Yuan and his martial brothers showed up openly, and all that happened was someone came up to provoke and curse them a little. It didn't seem like they were in any real danger. So why does Tu Dai'Er feel the need to hide her identity?'
