Beast Taming: I Have an Immortal Mansion
Chapter 537 - 375: A Higher Perspective (2)Of course, that was the official story. In reality, the Qi Yun Miscellaneous Affairs Peak had decided to restrict the White Mountain Beast Taming Sect’s activities. As for how to do it, Nangong Zhi already had a preliminary plan.
It’s hard to keep secrets in this world. Nangong Zhi’s plan had to be reported to the Qi Yun Miscellaneous Affairs Peak, which had three rotating acting Sect Leaders alone, not to mention over ten other Steward Nascent Souls.
Although the Qi Yun Chu Family’s power had been declining ever since Chu Zhen’s death, he had been a formidable figure who once vied for the position of Qi Yun Sect Leader. The legacy he left behind wasn’t something that would vanish in just a hundred years.
According to Chu Hongshang’s intelligence, in order to secretly restrict Lechuan’s continued development, Nangong Zhi was preparing to find someone at the Beast Taming General Mountain to come and replace Lechuan as the head of the White Mountain branch.
Just like back then in the Southern Border, as soon as you achieved something, you couldn’t avoid having someone else swoop in to steal the credit.
As for how Nangong Zhi, a Cultivator from the Qi Yun Daoist School, could influence an appointment from the Beast Taming General Mountain, Fang Qingyuan had few doubts.
Sometimes, an insider’s status was worth far less than an outsider’s. As a Mid-stage Nascent Soul Cultivator, whether through exchanging favors or calling in connections, Nangong Zhi had more influence than a mere Golden Core Cultivator like Lechuan.
Thinking of how Lechuan was currently gathering a group of branch sect leaders to plan for a future Marketplace, Fang Qingyuan felt a little helpless. His backer was Lechuan, but who was Lechuan’s backer now?
However, Nangong Zhi would never have guessed that Bear Wind, an ancient beast at the Mid-stage Nascent Soul realm, had already secretly pledged allegiance to him. Bear Wind was the biggest bargaining chip in this situation. No matter who the General Mountain sent, Fang Qingyuan was confident he could send them packing in disgrace.
"Younger Brother Fang, let us part ways here," Yan Nanxing said solemnly. "If I fail in my Nascent Soul Formation, I’ll have to ask Sect Leader Fang to look after the Yan Gui Sect in the future."
Before they knew it, the Qingyun Gangfeng Shuttle had arrived before the Nine-star Marketplace. Here, Yan Nanxing bid a solemn farewell to Fang Qingyuan.
After this meeting, Yan Nanxing would return to his sect to adjust his condition, waiting for someone from White Mountain to summon him to ascend the mountain for his Nascent Soul Formation. Among those who attempted it, only one or two out of every ten Golden Core Perfection Cultivators would succeed.
So, even with the Tribulation-Crossing Secret Treasure from the Nanchu Sect, Yan Nanxing’s mood was heavy.
"Brother Yan, you have great fortune on your side. It’s just Nascent Soul Formation; I’m sure it won’t be a problem for you. You were able to build such a great sect and fortune from nothing but the Qi Cultivation stage. You’re truly a dragon among men. It makes no sense for you to lose confidence in yourself now."
Fang Qingyuan’s words bolstered Yan Nanxing’s confidence. After hearing this, Yan Nanxing nodded in agreement, and the heroic air of a man who had commanded a major power for many years returned to him.
"Then I shall hope your auspicious words come true, Sect Leader Fang. A Nascent Soul Cultivator... I wonder what kind of experience it is to see the world from their perspective. It’s truly fascinating to think about."
After a brief exchange, Yan Nanxing, along with the Second Generation Sect Leader of the Lingliang Sect, parted ways with Fang Qingyuan in front of the Nine-star Marketplace.
Looking at the Nine-star Marketplace, where the flow of customers was much sparser than before, Fang Qingyuan shook his head. ’Given the current chaotic situation in White Mountain, I wonder how much business the Marketplace Lechuan is so set on will even have once it’s built.’
Fang Qingyuan turned and stepped into the Qingyun Gangfeng Shuttle. He looked at the shuttle’s interior, which still bore many traces of Yan Nanxing’s use.
A thought occurred to him. ’I should have Qi Wenchu take a look and see if he can modify it. Otherwise, the traces of the previous owner are too much of an eyesore.’
’Qi Wenchu is a junior of Qi Wushuang and has inherited some of Artifact Talisman City’s signature artifact-crafting skills. A Tier Three Small Flying Shuttle shouldn’t be too difficult for him, right?’
Before the envious gazes of the crowd at the Nine-star Marketplace, the Qingyun Gangfeng Shuttle swiftly took off, ascended high into the sky, and then flew toward the Qingyuan Sect.
In just over an hour, the Qingyun Gangfeng Shuttle crossed the vast distance and arrived before the gates of the Qingyuan Sect.
Seeing such an exquisite flying shuttle land, the Guest Officers at the mountain gate hurried forward, preparing to offer a warm reception. But when Fang Qingyuan stepped out, their mouths fell open.
’Since when did our Sect Leader become so impressive?’
"Summon Qi Wenchu. Have him take a look at this shuttle and see what can be improved. Most importantly, have him replace all the insignias on it with those of our Qingyuan Sect."
Fang Qingyuan left the group of Guest Officers to marvel at the Qingyun Gangfeng Shuttle while he entered the Qingyuan Sect and returned to his Quiet Chamber. There was another matter currently giving him a headache: the area inside his Immortal Mansion was growing vaster as his cultivation level increased.
This should have been a good thing, but the vast land brought with it a bountiful harvest of Spirit Rice. Now that it was harvest season again, Fang Qingyuan looked at the mountain of Spirit Rice and started to worry. ’How am I going to exchange all this Spirit Rice for Spirit Stones?’
’Maybe I should try brewing it into wine.’ Inside the Immortal Mansion, Fang Qingyuan fell into deep thought.
....
The perception of time for Cultivators is definitely slow; at least, it seems much more leisurely than the pace at which mortals experience its passage.
More than half a year had passed since his return from the Nanchu Sect, and Nangong Zhi’s scheme had yet to materialize.
When Lechuan first heard the news, he went through phases of anger, worry, and grim determination. Now, his mindset had shifted to wondering why Nangong Zhi hadn’t made a move yet. He even found himself somewhat anticipating it.
But things were strange that way. When you eagerly awaited something, it often took its time arriving. The waiting was the truly agonizing part.
In a quiet alley within the bustling Nine-star Marketplace stood a standalone, three-story building flying the banner of the Qingyuan Sect. The first and second floors were storefronts facing the street, while the third floor served as living quarters for the shop staff.
The small shop’s business wasn’t particularly good; it was by no means crowded with customers. However, there were always one or two Cultivators who would linger inside for a long time, only making a small purchase right before they left.
As evening approached, a few disciples from the Qingyuan Sect walked down the alley. They entered the small shop and called for the Shopkeeper.
The disciple in the lead looked to be no older than thirty and was at the Late-stage Qi Cultivation. He approached the shop’s keeper and said politely,
"Shopkeeper Liu, we are here under the Sect Leader’s orders to deliver a shipment of Spirit Wine. The price is set at fifteen Low-grade Spirit Stones per jar. We’re delivering three hundred jars first. Please enter it into the accounts."
This Shopkeeper Liu was also at the Late-stage Qi Cultivation. However, compared to the Qingyuan Sect disciple who was in the prime of his life, he was the type with no hope of a breakthrough, and had thus been assigned to manage one of the sect’s shops.
"Thank you for your trouble, Steward Gu. Xiaoyuan, Xiaoliang, you two come and help move this Spirit Wine into the storage room."
The ones Shopkeeper Liu called over were two young men in their early twenties at the Two-Layer Qi Cultivation. Their origins were not with the Qingyuan Sect; they were Loose Cultivators that Shopkeeper Liu had recruited in the Nine-star Marketplace.
Compared to being a Loose Cultivator in the White Mountain region, living a precarious existence, working as a clerk in a shop with a proper backing was the hope many older Loose Cultivators had for their children.
Although the path to the Great Dao was closed to them this way, a stable life was better than living on the edge.
The two Qi Cultivation clerks led Steward Gu’s group through a side door into the large underground cellar. Down in the storage room, they settled the accounts.
As ten-jin jars of Spirit Wine were taken out one by one from the storage pouches, the dozen or so pouches carried by Steward Gu’s group were eventually emptied. Fortunately, the underground space was quite large and could accommodate so many jars of Spirit Wine.
"Why are there a few extra jars?"
Seeing Xiaoyuan’s surprised cry, Steward Gu smiled faintly and said to Shopkeeper Liu,
"This is a bonus from the sect for the three of you. To sell the Spirit Wine, you should at least know what it tastes like so you can promote it better. Keep these few jars for yourselves."
The three of them were overjoyed to hear this, not expecting such a pleasant surprise.
After Steward Gu and his group had settled the accounts and left, Shopkeeper Liu took the extra jars and put them all into his own storage pouch. Seeing the resentful looks in the two clerks’ eyes, Shopkeeper Liu coughed, then reluctantly took out one jar. With a slap of his palm, he broke the clay seal and poured three small bowls.
"Don’t be shy, have a taste. It’s not that I’m unwilling to share, but you two are still young, not of drinking age. Giving this Spirit Wine to you would be a waste. A taste is enough."
After saying this, Shopkeeper Liu picked up his bowl of Spirit Wine and took a slow slurp. As the Spirit Wine went down his throat, his eyes widened slightly.
A few breaths later, feeling a small ball of fire burning in his stomach as the Spiritual Power spread throughout his body with the liquor, Shopkeeper Liu said in shock,
"This Spirit Wine sells for only fifteen Low-grade Spirit Stones a jar? What was the sect thinking?"
