Beast Taming: I'm Really Just a Forest Ranger
Chapter 454 - 229: A Spectacle Before the FarmFive minutes ago,
A Flowing Cloud Sparrow perched on the branch, tilted its head, and its pitch-black eyes gazed below.
Two humans walked side by side, their conversation carried away by the wind.
"Wu Peng, is Advisor Chen really home?" Zeng Hui looked ahead, as a farm gradually entered his view.
"Don’t worry, Advisor Chen was in the city yesterday, so he’s definitely back today." Wu Peng said with certainty.
"Would it be too presumptuous to visit just like that?" Zeng Hui glanced at the fruits and Pet Beast snacks he was holding, his voice growing smaller, "And aren’t these things too cheap?"
Fruits are alright; giving them as gifts is definitely appropriate.
But Pet Beast snacks seem too casual; how could Advisor Chen’s trained Pet Beasts like this stuff?
Advisor Chen’s Pet Beasts must be powerful and disciplined, and they wouldn’t like Pet Beast snacks.
Wu Peng waved his hand upon hearing this: "Don’t worry, a person of Advisor Chen’s stature has seen all kinds of good stuff."
"Giving gifts is all about sincerity, and it matches our identity, so Advisor Chen won’t think we’re just here to network."
Wu Peng and Zeng Hui got acquainted in the Black-striped Spider Cave; they were once saved by Chen Yuan and personally witnessed the Snow Cloud Wolves attacking the farm, so they have some interaction with Chen Yuan.
Time leisurely reached winter, and as a native of Baokun City, Wu Peng specially invited Zeng Hui to experience the Qinling snow scene, while also embarking on a bit of training.
Before heading into the mountains, they planned to buy some gifts to visit Advisor Chen, both to express once again their gratitude for the previous life-saving favor and to congratulate Advisor Chen on winning the Da Feng Cup.
If they had ideas of networking during the last visit, witnessing Chen Yuan’s triumph has starkly shown the huge gap in strength and status, leaving them devoid of such thoughts.
The gap is too wide; networking has become a luxury.
"Alright."
Upon hearing this, Zeng Hui reluctantly nodded, but as soon as he finished speaking, he suddenly heard faint frog calls coming from the nearby flowing river.
Not just one or two frog calls, but a continuous wave, buzzing loudly in his mind.
Zeng Hui frowned, quickly walked to the river, and looked up, freezing in place the next second.
"What’s wrong?" Noticing Zeng Hui’s abnormal behavior, Wu Peng strode quickly toward him.
In the next moment, Wu Peng reacted the same as Zeng Hui, mouth agape, eyes wide, standing dumbfounded.
The frog calls became more distinct, rising and falling by the ears, seemingly swept into the biting cold wind.
No one knows how long it lasted,
The frog calls gradually faded into the distance, and the two involuntarily exchanged glances, simultaneously recognizing the uncertainty in each other’s eyes.
After a while,
Wu Peng exclaimed in surprise: "Why are there so many frogs?"
Zeng Hui’s eyes flickered: "Lanwen Green Frogs, Rock Armor Earth Toads, Forest Language Leaf Frogs... and a few types of frog Pet Beasts I don’t recognize, is it a grand frog gathering?"
This not-too-wide river was packed with various frog Pet Beasts, roughly a dozen at a glance, each emitted an intimidating aura, swimming forward while croaking.
Fortunately, this group of frogs paid no attention to the two standing there and continued to move forward.
Wu Peng stroked his chin, eyes in contemplation: "This is Xuanhe Village, a human gathering place. Normally, there wouldn’t be this many wild Pet Beasts appearing."
Pausing, he supported his chin with one hand, his expression slightly excited, made a guess: "Something special must have happened nearby."
"Nearby..." Zeng Hui nodded thoughtfully, then surveyed the surroundings, began searching for where something special might have happened.
Suddenly, his gaze landed straight ahead.
It was Advisor Chen’s farm.
At that moment, both looked at the farm at the end of their view, glanced at each other, and simultaneously spoke: "Is this group of frogs here to attack the farm?"
Since witnessing the Snow Cloud Wolves attempt to attack the farm last time, the two were particularly sensitive to similar incidents, their first thought was of this possibility.
The thought flashed by, but Zeng Hui shook his head: "No, no, how could so many wild Pet Beasts attack a farm?"
"What if?" Wu Peng murmured, his voice carried by the wind, full of temptation.
"What if they are really going to attack the farm? What if Advisor Chen happens to be not home?"
Zeng Hui froze for a moment: "Didn’t you say Advisor Chen is home?"
Wu Peng waved his hand: "I was just guessing too."
Zeng Hui snapped out of it, stared directly at Wu Peng, and a faint idea arose in his mind: "So what you mean is..."
"If they attack the farm, if Advisor Chen isn’t home, this would be our best chance to get closer to Advisor Chen." Wu Peng spoke quickly.
Zeng Hui’s expression froze: "Didn’t you say before not to network?"
Wu Peng interrupted: "That was then, this is now, opportunities are once-in-a-lifetime, let’s quickly go."
The two hesitated no longer, first summoned their respective Pet Beasts, and then sprinted toward the farm.
A moment later,
The two neared the farm, only to see this group of frogs had already jumped from the river to the ground, lined up under the lead of a Far Traveling Frog with a green lotus leaf satchel, approaching the farm.
"What kind of Pet Beast is that?" Looking at the never-before-seen Far Traveling Frog, Zeng Hui was taken aback.
"That’s not important." Wu Peng shook his head, then readied himself, "Their target is indeed the farm; we prepare for battle."
Zeng Hui was about to nod when he saw the Steel-headed Ground Rat, which had been guarding the gate, step out from the shadows, silently raised the sharp blade in front of it, its sharp gaze fixed forward, an invisible aura spread outward, immediately stopping the group of frogs in their tracks.
"Ka!"
