Beast Taming: My System is Bugged

Chapter 448 - 434: Dreamless Pill

After discussing Ah Kun’s new Attribute,

the conversation naturally shifted back to the exploration of the Yichuan Ruins and how to handle the medicinal herbs.

Everyone knew that Gu Ming’s expedition team had brought back a large quantity of Spiritual Attribute medicinal herbs from the ruins last time.

Most of those herbs were still stored, unprocessed, within the Beast Taming Spaces of the various teachers and students.

The day before yesterday, a few professors had privately contacted a small number of people to trade for some top-grade medicinal herbs for research purposes.

But Gu Ming’s private collection had yet to make an appearance, sparking everyone’s imagination.

It was only by following him to the lab this time that they had learned of treasures like the Dreamless Water Bud.

And that was just an herb from the previous expedition.

What about the good things discovered on this latest trip?

Everyone couldn’t help but turn their eyes to Gu Ming, curious about what other unknown treasures he had reaped this time.

Elder Huo stood among the crowd. He had also obtained some good things, but what he took were items his own Array Pet Beast was interested in.

Inside that nest, nearly ninety percent of the items were Spiritual Element medicinal herbs, most of which had been snatched up by the students.

Gu Ming had probably acquired some of those as well.

"Ahem, esteemed teachers, I happen to have a few medicinal herbs whose properties I’d like to analyze. Teacher Dan Temple, could I trouble you again?"

"Haha, no problem! I was waiting for you to ask!" Dan Temple laughed.

Gu Ming knew exactly what was happening. ’It’s time to take out a few rare, but non-essential, medicinal herbs.

’On one hand, I can let the teachers appreciate and study them. On the other, I can use this opportunity to trade for some urgently needed Cultivation Resources for Ah Ji.’

After trading a series of precious medicinal herbs, discussing cultivation theory for a while, and finalizing the development plan for Ah Kun’s newly awakened Attribute,

Gu Ming heard Elder Huo say, "I’m afraid you won’t be able to go on the next expedition to the Yichuan Ruins."

"Why?"

"Because of the Seed of Shadow," he said.

Fearing Gu Ming would think he was being singled out, he added,

"Although it’s already dead, just as a precaution, we can’t allow any student who was marked by a Seed of Shadow to return to the Yichuan Ruins.

"At least in the short term, you can’t go, and neither can they."

The "they" Elder Huo referred to were the others in the group that went to the Yichuan Ruins with Gu Ming.

"What about you, Teacher?" Gu Ming asked.

"I’m not going either. Anyone who was marked by a Seed of Shadow, including the teachers, is barred."

Elder Huo shook his head.

Gu Ming had a realization. ’It seems Elder Huo’s understanding of the Terror Executioner isn’t as shallow as I thought.

’At the very least, the school’s upper management is aware that the things that creature left behind still have some lingering power and can’t be considered completely purged.’

On that note, Elder Huo asked about the Dreamless Pill in Gu Ming’s possession:

"That Dreamless Pill of yours—when are you going to take it? We should see if it can clear away the lingering influence of the Seed of Shadow."

The atmosphere in the lab had calmed down after Daoist He, Teacher Dan Temple, and Elder Huo had successively offered guidance on Ah Kun’s Fear Attribute.

Elder Huo looked at the Dreamless Pill that Gu Ming had just put away, a sliver of hope still in his heart. He couldn’t help but bring up the old subject again:

"Gu Ming, this Dreamless Pill... since it can grant a dreamless, peaceful sleep, might it also be effective in cleansing the ’Seed of Shadow’ we may have been tainted with?

"If we could use it to dispel this hidden danger in our minds, it would be a great thing."

Hearing this, Gu Ming sighed inwardly.

’Elder Huo, and indeed the other teachers present, had clearly subconsciously equated the effects of the Dreamless Pill with cleansing the various bizarre spiritual influences from the Yichuan Ruins. They saw it as a "purification" type of Spirit Medicine.’

’However, through the displaced perspective of his system, Gu Ming knew full well that in the application framework of the next thirty-two years, this item’s core value wasn’t "elimination," but "construction."

’It was a key Catalyst for certain Spiritual Pet Beasts to practice extremely rare "Dreamless Cultivation" Skills, which required intense focus and a silent consciousness. It was never meant to be a conventional Elixir for a Beastmaster to consume personally.’

’Of course, a person would indeed lose their dreams if they took it, but its true value was far greater than that.’

He coughed, shook his head gently, and said frankly to Elder Huo,

"Teacher Huo, you’ve misunderstood."

"This Dreamless Pill, according to the information I have, is primarily used by Pet Beasts when cultivating specific Skills. It’s not for eliminating spiritual imprints like the ’Seed of Shadow.’"

He paused for a moment before adding,

"Its medicinal principle works on the consciousness of an intelligent life form, forcing it into a state of deep, dreamless sleep.

"I’m afraid it would be ineffective against a deep-seated negative imprint like that."

Elder Huo’s brow furrowed slightly, clearly not entirely convinced. Relying on his own keen Perception, he pressed,

"Is that so? But when I smelled the Elixir just now, its aroma was pure and tranquil. It had the effect of calming the mind and stabilizing the soul. It seems it would be highly beneficial for mental stability.

"We’ll only know its true effects after we test it, won’t we?"

Elder Huo had learned from Dan Temple that Gu Ming had formulated the recipe for this Elixir himself.

Successfully refining it was already a huge surprise.

The actual results, derived purely from deducing its medicinal properties, would surely differ from what was imagined.

Gu Ming knew that words alone wouldn’t be persuasive enough.

Besides, he was also curious about the Dreamless Pill’s effects.

’Since several top scholars are present, I might as well verify it on the spot. It would also lay the groundwork for using this Pill for real in the future.’

He turned to his three Pet Beasts and said,

"Teacher Dan Temple is here, so we can have him precisely divide the Elixir according to your individual tolerances, control the dosage, and ensure your safety. Who wants to try?"

However, upon hearing the words "Dreamless Pill," Cyan Treasure, Ah Kun, and Ah Ji showed no excitement. Instead, they all revealed remarkably human-like, subtle expressions mixed with hesitation and resistance.

They all took a small step back in unison.

Ah Ji, in particular, shook its head like a rattle drum.

Gu Ming was taken aback for a moment, but after communicating with them through their Soul Contract, he finally understood.

It turned out the three little ones had a very direct understanding of "dreamless"—if they ate it, they wouldn’t be able to dream.

Their nightly frolicking and skill-honing in the Dream Cultivation Space was a crucial path to rapid growth—the only way for them to surpass genius Pet Beasts.

If they took this Elixir, wouldn’t they lose this precious "Dream Realm Cultivation" time, at least for a while?

In their eyes, this was a classic case of penny-wise and pound-foolish, a losing proposition they wanted no part of.

Gu Ming couldn’t help but chuckle. He had no choice but to patiently explain again through his Divine Sense:

"This isn’t about taking away your Dream Realm Cultivation. Quite the opposite, taking this is to lay the foundation for a new Skill."

As he said this, Gu Ming himself paused.

’He was actually waiting for his system’s misaligned bullet-comment to trigger and give him more specific guidance.’

’But he believed that with these knowledgeable professors present, if they just talked a little longer, he would figure out how to guide his pets in "Dreamless Cultivation" after they took the Elixir.’
