The moment he finished speaking, everyone, who had been busy with their own tasks, looked over in unison.
The three Five-star Beastmasters were the quickest to react.
Lin Beastmaster was the first to approach. His Metallic Pangolin Pet Beast burrowed out from underground, its snout nearing the sealed bag in Gu Ming’s hand. It sniffed carefully, then let out a few short, questioning hisses.
"The energy signature... is almost nonexistent."
Lin Beastmaster’s brow furrowed slightly. He looked at Gu Ming. "Gu Ming, this ’unusual aura’ you perceived—what exactly is it?"
Wang Beastmaster’s Water Mist Spirit also drifted over. A wisp of fine water vapor tried to seep into the opening of the sealed bag. A moment later, the mist rippled slightly, sending back a vague thought:
"Dense structure... inert... no active memory residue."
The goshawk on Zhou Beastmaster’s shoulder, its eyes as sharp as lightning, scanned the sample and then the patch of black mud where Gu Ming had taken it. Finally, it shook its head, conveying its meaning through a Spiritual Link:
"The surface energy scars are no different from the surrounding area."
The conclusions of the three experts were nearly identical.
According to their methods of investigation, this was nothing more than a piece of ordinary compacted soil, one that was particularly "clean" due to repeated purifications.
Although their faces still showed respect for Gu Ming’s academic standing, the cautious doubt in their eyes resurfaced, even deepening.
After all, the very investigative Skills their Pet Beasts were famous for had all come back negative.
And Gu Ming didn’t have any top-tier achievements in the detection Domain, so he wasn’t very convincing.
"Gu Ming," Lin Beastmaster began, choosing his words carefully, his tone as tactful as possible.
"Could it be that because this area has been repeatedly purified, some residual, unusual smells from the cleansing agents or disinfectants interfered with your Perception?
"Our Pet Beasts have some expertise in identifying energy inertia, material memory, and macroscopic energy scars, and they really didn’t find anything out of the ordinary."
Old Chen walked over as well, took the sealed bag, and felt it for himself.
His Cultivation was profound and his Perception sharper, but all he could detect was that the soil was unusually compacted and its internal Spiritual Power structure was completely dead, like clay fired at high temperatures. He didn’t pick up on the "unusual aura" Gu Ming had mentioned.
He looked at Gu Ming, his eyes questioning.
He believed in Gu Ming’s abilities and intuition, but he couldn’t ignore the professional judgment of several Five-star Beastmasters.
Gu Ming looked at the soil in the bag, unshaken by the others’ doubts.
’He had expected this.’
Cyan Treasure’s Demon Suppression Spell had triggered the manifestation of a "mark of existence" that transcended the conventional level of Energy Perception—an ancient, decaying, and stagnant aura.
Without the illumination of the Light of True Wisdom, it was fundamentally undetectable.
Moreover, the residual aura itself no longer existed. No matter how sophisticated the Five-star Beastmasters’ methods were, they were still confined to the cognitive framework and Energy Perception of the current era.
He was about to explain when his gaze fell on the two "observers" who had been silent all this time.
The man and woman had, at some point, stopped their seemingly futile scanning and sampling.
The screen of the old "camera-like" device in the man’s hand had gone dark, and the woman had put away the last dust sample.
They walked over, their footsteps silent.
The man reached his hand out directly to Old Chen, his target clear—the sealed bag containing the "abnormal" soil.
Old Chen hesitated for a moment but handed the bag over.
The man took it, but unlike the others, he didn’t try to sense it, nor did he even glance at the bag.
He simply pinched a corner of the sealed bag with two fingers, lifted it, and turned it slightly in the pale sunlight.
In the light, the black soil in the bag remained unremarkable, giving off no other aura.
Then, he did something that surprised everyone: he passed the sealed bag directly to his female companion.
The woman took it and also didn’t investigate it.
From somewhere, she produced a flat, square box that was neither metal nor wood, covered in intricate Runes, and slowly opened it.
The inside of the box was lined with a soft, dark blue material that seemed to absorb light.
She placed Gu Ming’s sealed bag inside and closed the lid.
The Micro Array Runes flashed faintly, then disappeared.
Only after all this was done did the man formally turn his gaze to Gu Ming, but it was just a glance.
"Old Chen," the man said, turning his head.
"We’re taking this sample to Red Moon University. You all carry on."
With that, he gave his female companion an imperceptible nod, and they left together.
"Hey, you two, this..." one of the Five-star Beastmasters instinctively started to ask.
Old Chen raised a hand to stop him. Watching their rapidly retreating backs, he said in a low voice:
"Let them go."
He turned to Gu Ming and patted his shoulder, his tone reassuring. "Since they’ve taken it, it means they’ll handle it properly. Let’s just wait for the results."
The three Five-star Beastmasters looked at each other, a bit sheepish.
The observers’ actions had undoubtedly cast Gu Ming’s "discovery" in a special light.
Their earlier refutations now seemed far less absolute.
Gu Ming watched the black car start up silently, drive away from the dusty, sealed-off area, and disappear at the end of the road.
The atmosphere at the scene became a bit awkward.
The investigation seemed to have hit a dead end. All obvious clues had long since been picked clean, and Gu Ming’s only "discovery" had been taken away by the silent, mysterious observers.
Old Chen cleared his throat, trying to boost morale:
"Everyone, keep going. Don’t let your guard down.
"The observers taking the sample doesn’t necessarily mean anything. We still need to work hard... Gu Ming, you take another careful look around too. See if you can find any other places with a similar feeling."
Old Chen was playing the part of a fair mediator, supporting Gu Ming while also lifting the spirits of the others.
Gu Ming nodded and continued to pace around with Cyan Treasure.
In his mind, the system’s bullet-comment area was still scrolling. The future investigation team’s Tong Youni seemed to still be performing its Soul-Chasing Ceremony, discussing more detailed trajectory information.

「Red Moon University, at the Paleontological Gene Decoding Center and the Spiritual Material Analysis Laboratory.」
They had simultaneously received the black soil sample, sent for expedited testing and labeled "Suspected item related to the Ancient Divine Deer."
The commissioning party was of a very high level, so the professors in charge of both labs didn’t dare to be negligent, immediately assembling their best teams.
Although they had heard that the testing for the Friends of Nature organization was being handled by several top academic institutions,
they never expected that this evidence would be sent down to them at Red Moon University.
After all, this wasn’t Red Moon University’s area of expertise, so it was a bit strange that they were given the task.
But strange or not, the professors still began extracting any potential biomass residue, performing high-precision Spiritual Energy DNA sequencing, and comparing it against the national Pet Beast genetic database.
If they could find a match with the bloodline maps of any existing or recorded subspecies of the Ancient Divine Deer, they could confirm the species and then deduce its likely abilities and characteristics.
This was crucial, both for tracing its origin and for developing countermeasures.
The experiment proceeded in an efficient and quiet atmosphere. Precision instruments hummed as Spiritual Energy probes delved into the core of the sample.
However, the results left the experts in both laboratories staring at each other in dismay.
