Lu You hugged the toasty-warm Mouse Treasure, her gaze nervously following Gu Ming’s every move on the platform.

On the seat beside her, the Tri-color Pupa rested quietly inside a custom-made nutrient jar.

Its cocoon was smooth, with shades of red, blue, and gold slowly swirling across its surface. It silently absorbed the intense emotions and Energy Fluctuations dissipating from the surroundings, which were ’highly nutritious’ to it.

By all rights, it should have already been able to emerge from its cocoon. Its consciousness was clear, it had undergone a baptism of dreams, and it had been carefully nurtured for many days.

But it was now the end of March, and any sign of its Form Evolution completing was still nowhere to be seen.

Lu You had been worried, but seeing that the Tri-color Pupa was in excellent spirits, she had temporarily set her concerns aside.

When a deafening sound tore through the sky above, accompanied by a suffocating, paralyzing sensation, Lu You’s mind instantly went blank.

She instinctively hugged Mouse Treasure tighter, her other hand shooting out to shield the transparent Pupa Jar beside her. Her heart hammered against her ribs, threatening to burst from her chest.

Just then, a cool and pure sensation emerged from within her Beast Taming Space.

Without being summoned, the nascent Star Spirit had already manifested in the real world.

It had no fixed form, just a soft, subtly shifting mass of starlight. It drifted down lightly, settling on top of the Tri-color Pupa’s smooth cocoon like a miniature Star perched upon it.

The Star Spirit "looked" up at the terrifying, ghostly green rift and the withered hand extending from within.

The starlight at its core began to flicker erratically. A fragmented premonition, a piece of information far beyond the capacity of a newborn creature, stabbed into Lu You’s consciousness like a needle of ice.

A vision flashed through her mind:

The hand, withered like a ghoul’s claw, pierced through the chaotic energy and the obstructing crowds. It ignored the defensive line hastily erected by the Demon Purification Court’s experts, lunging with despair-inducing precision and greed... straight toward the right-hand spectator stands where she was sitting!

Lu You felt an indescribable, soul-deep terror—a warning transmitted by the Star Spirit.

"What’s wrong? Don’t be afraid. The Demon Purification Court is here. We’ll be fine."

She whispered reassuringly, but her voice carried a tremor she herself didn’t even notice.

However, as she replayed the vision in her mind, she realized something—the section of the stands being attacked... seemed to be the very one she was in.

’Wait.’

’Could they be coming for me? Or for my Pet Beasts?’

’But why? I’ve never done anything to them.’

The color drained from Lu You’s face. Her arms, shielding Mouse Treasure and the Pupa Jar, grew rigid. A chill shot up from the soles of her feet to the crown of her head.

But in the next second, she saw the old woman in the sky strike without warning.

The motion was as easy as reaching into a pocket. The withered arm became a blurry phantom, extending with unstoppable, destructive force—

But her target wasn’t the stands. It was the dueling grounds below!

In the blink of an eye, the remnants of the Spatial Array on the platform were torn asunder by an invisible force.

A giant claw formed of dark energy pierced the boundary between reality and illusion, snatching directly toward Jiang Chen in the center of the field and his Pill Fire Pet Beasts, which were writhing in agony from the backlash!

’Eh? So they weren’t coming for me after all?’

Lu You froze for a moment, stunned to realize she might have been wrong.

Her anxiety immediately shifted. Her throat tightened as her eyes frantically searched for Gu Ming, and she prayed silently that he would be safe.

On the field, Gu Ming stood at the very heart of the conflict.

He could see several experts from the Demon Purification Court had all released their powerful Pet Beasts. A dazzling rain of attacks, a storm of brilliant light, hammered down on the shadowy giant claw.

However, the old woman must have been using some uncanny power. All the ferocious attacks—scorching flames, sharp Wind Blades, and heavy rock spikes—passed right through the giant claw as if it were a phantom, failing to make physical contact at all!

"This is... the power of a Mysterious Pet Beast?!"

He heard someone from the Demon Purification Court cry out in shock.

"Damn it, our attacks aren’t hitting its physical form! This is bad! Does anyone have a way to stop this?!"

Mysterious Pet Beasts had always been the most bizarre and unpredictable type in the world of Beastmasters.

Their abilities were wildly varied, with "immunity to conventional Skill damage" being one of their more common traits.

Rumor had it that dealing with such an ability required either a specific Array to counter it, or fighting fire with fire—using the equally inscrutable "mysterious power" of another Mysterious Pet Beast.

During this moment of shocked paralysis, a hair-raising cackle of "JIE JIE JIE..." echoed from the depths of the rift. The dark giant claw had already closed, seizing Jiang Chen in its grasp!

Seized by the old woman’s giant claw, Jiang Chen’s mind was a tangled mess of a thousand thoughts.

Debt, failure, the excruciating pain from the Pill Pet’s backlash, and the lingering nightmare of the Cloud Country... everything was dragging him into the abyss.

’Perhaps being taken away like this is a form of release?’

"Jiang Chen!"

Gu Ming’s voice rang out across the field, piercing through the roar of energy.

Jiang Chen looked back blankly. He saw Gu Ming, clad in the Profound Celestial Ghost Armor created by Ah Ji, throwing a punch.

At the tip of his fist, a ball of blindingly bright, scorching light coalesced. Within it swirled a faint, profound aura of Dao Charm as he slammed it fiercely toward the dark giant claw that held Jiang Chen!

The punch jolted Jiang Chen’s muddled consciousness, clearing it for an instant.

"Hmph!"

A cold snort came from the depths of the rift.

The dark giant claw merely flicked a finger. A beam of eerie light, condensed to its absolute limit, shot out and struck the blazing fist with perfect accuracy.

PFFT—

Like a candle flame being snuffed out, the radiant "little sun"—empowered with a nascent Dao Charm and considerable might—instantly collapsed and vanished without causing so much as a ripple.

The visual was staggering. The difference in their power was as vast as that between the heavens and the earth.

"I didn’t come for you, but you delivered yourself right to my doorstep? JIE JIE JIE..."

The old woman above let out a hoarse cackle. "Why don’t I grab you as well? You can be a teacher at my ’academy.’ As it happens, I haven’t fully deciphered the latest ’Evolution Method’ yet."

She was no mere Three-star Beastmaster, but a bona fide Seven-star Beastmaster.

Boosted by the mysterious ritual at her feet and the combined power of the numerous Evil Cultivators behind her, her strength had skyrocketed. Even among Eight-star Beastmasters, she would be considered a formidable force.

After all, a circle of shadowy, hooded figures with chilling auras stood behind her. Every last one of them was a dangerous master of the evil arts.

Supported by this vast, aggregated power, her Pet Beast’s attack could easily shred a Daoist School Level Protective Array. It swept aside the combined assault of several Seven-star experts from the Demon Purification Court as effortlessly as an autumn wind scattering dead leaves.

In the stands, hidden masters among the crowd could finally no longer restrain themselves and began to act.

For a moment, the arena erupted in a blinding display of combat. Dragon roars and tiger howls filled the air as powerful auras of every description clashed in a chaotic, violent storm.

The old woman was already distracted, but she sent out another shadowy claw, intending to snatch the overreaching Gu Ming as well.

However, from the left side of the stands, an immense, pure, and majestic True Dragon aura suddenly erupted!

The aura blazed like a rising sun, righteous and magnificent, and it possessed a natural suppressive effect on evil powers.

The old woman’s expression changed abruptly. The claw she had just extended shot back as if seared by a branding iron.

"So be it... capturing a piece of ’Firewood’ is no loss."

She muttered reluctantly, her gaze sweeping over the scene with a hint of regret.

"It’s just a pity that the ’Star Container’ doesn’t seem to be here..."

Before the words faded, she and the captured Jiang Chen vanished into the depths of the ghostly green rift.

The rift began to writhe violently, contracting rapidly as it prepared to seal itself shut.

Staring at the chasm in power that had allowed her to obliterate his full-strength attack with a flick of her finger, Gu Ming could only swallow his frustration. He gently patted the lowered head of Ah Ji at his side.

"Don’t lose heart. The gap between us and her... is just too vast."

In the stands, Lu You let out a long sigh of relief, feeling drained now that the immediate danger had passed.

"So... premonitions can be wrong?"

she murmured. The Star Spirit in her arms seemed to sense that the crisis had passed for now, and its frantic flickering began to calm and stabilize.

However, it wasn’t over yet.

The master in the stands who had unleashed the True Dragon aura clearly had no intention of letting these Evil Cultivators—who had dared to strike at the heart of the Zhou Capital and act so brazenly—get away so easily.

A cold, imperious snort exploded through the venue like a clap of thunder.

"Hmph! You worthless filth dare to run wild in the Zhou Capital?"

"Jade Dragon—bring her back!"

At this command, a phantom dragon—lithe, majestic, and as brilliant as platinum—shot up from somewhere in the stands. With a shriek that seemed to tear space itself, it plunged straight into the closing, ghostly green rift!
