Beyond Reality : the beginning of the end : Ethan path
Chapter 4 - Follow your instinctsIt was almost midnight. Ethan lay on his bed, staring at the ceiling. Hours had passed since his arrival, and nothing had happened. No supernatural being. No strange phenomena. No new evidence. He was beginning to feel he had wasted precious time. He sat up on the edge of the bed.
"Maybe something's wrong."
He glanced at the picture of the Man of Nowhere on the table. Then at the clock. 11:56. He didn't know what to do. Finally, he decided to go out. He wanted to get a drink. He opened the door. He walked down the corridor. Then he headed for the elevator. But before he reached it... he bumped into someone. Ethan looked up. He stopped. The man was standing in front of him. The same coat. The same face. The same small watch. The Man of Nowhere. Ethan didn't speak. He didn't get the chance. The man raised his hand. He pushed him. It wasn't a normal push. Ethan's body lifted off the ground. He froze in the air. Then... everything disappeared. The clock hands stopped. The lights went out. The dust particles in the air stopped. Even the sounds of the hotel disappeared. Ethan was conscious. He could see. He could hear. But he couldn't move a finger. He couldn't even speak. He was suspended in the air as the Man of Nowhere moved closer to him. He said:
— Finally.
Ethan tried to answer. He couldn't. The man continued:
— I knew you'd make it.
Then he said more words. Words Ethan couldn't understand. They were like a conversation about a group. About people. About talents. About something the man called: the power of the unlimited. Then he added:

— You are one of me.
Ethan's eyes widened. He didn't understand. The man pointed to his head.
— You don't know yet.
Then he looked at the watch on his wrist.
— But you will.
He moved closer.
— We are looking for people like you.
The words swirled in Ethan's mind. Something about the world. Something about humanity. Something about people who can do things others cannot. Then the man said:
— When the time comes... you will understand.
He took out a small piece of paper and put it in Ethan's coat pocket. Then he stepped back. He opened his pocket watch. He turned the hands backward. And before he disappeared, he said:
— Don't look for the answers. Then he smiled.
— Because you will create them yourself.
He vanished. And the next moment... time resumed. Ethan's body lurched forward at the same speed it had been moving before time stopped.
— What...?
He couldn't finish the sentence. He hit the wall. He fell to the ground. Then everything went dark. --- Ethan woke up the next morning. His head was throbbing. He opened his eyes slowly. He was still in the hotel corridor.
"What happened to me...?"
He sat up, clutching his head. The last thing he remembered was leaving his room. Then the man. Then... He stopped. He stared ahead.
"No."
He shook his head.
— Impossible.
Perhaps he was dreaming. Perhaps he bumped into something and fell. Perhaps he was just tired. He got up with difficulty and went back to his room. But when he put his hand in his pocket… he felt something. He took out a small piece of paper. He froze. He unfolded it. There were only two words on it: Follow your instincts. Ethan sat on the bed. He stared at it for a long time. Then his mind started working. The hotel. The strange guests. The owner's behavior. The man who could appear in two places. The clock. And the words he didn't understand. Possibilities began to pool in his head. Perhaps the hotel wasn't an ordinary hotel. Perhaps the people here weren't ordinary. And perhaps the Nowhere Man was leading a group of people with supernatural abilities. And perhaps… he wanted Ethan with them. But why? And what did that have to do with the beings they lived with? He didn't know. All he knew was that one thing about this case was different from every case he'd ever worked on. His instincts weren't wrong. All his life, Ethan had trusted his gut feeling when the details didn't match. He noticed things others didn't. He chose the right path without knowing why. And he arrived He sometimes got to the truth before he found the evidence. That's why he became a successful detective. But he never knew that it wasn't just a hunch. There was something deeper. Something inside him that was working before his mind even started to think. And that something... was now beginning to awaken.
