Chapter 2571: Chapter 2563: The Duties of a Shishu
Han Ling insisted that Feng Jun, disguised as "Han Feng," return, and Feng Jun was a bit helpless.
After thinking it over, he asked, "I’m actually quite puzzled. Why do you think that guy Feng is bound to launch an attack?"
"He killed both the master and the senior uncle," Han Ling said coldly, looking at him. "Thus, he will surely root out every trace."
"I don’t think that’s the case," Feng Jun stated earnestly. "In my view, that guy Feng has such high standards. He probably wouldn’t care about such trifles...In his eyes, you and I are merely ants. Do you really think he has time to get tangled in such insignificant matters?"
In the distance, the True Immortal Can Sheng glanced at Qian Zhong. "Ancestor, you are right. Such blatant self-praise...it’s indeed impossible."
"Just keep watching," Qian Zhong snorted coldly, a gleam shining in his eyes. "I never said he was the breaker, but this thick-skinned audacity...I have never seen the likes of it in my life."
This kind of self-praise that Feng Jun utilized was common in the Earth Realm. Sometimes he did exaggerate a bit in his speech.
However, when Han Ling heard it, she raised her eyebrows, looked Han Feng up and down, and suspiciously asked, "Who did you drink with yesterday, and what were you discussing?"
"Senior sister, I’m not a child," Feng Jun replied impatiently. "I came back just to inform you that I’ll be busy for a few days, and I might head to the sect. I expect to be away for a while."
Han Ling was genuinely a little worried her junior brother might be in trouble, but hearing that he planned to go to the sect, she felt reassured. The Lingmu Sect’s mountain gate wasn’t very strong, but no faction dared to mess around there.
So she nodded, "That’s good; just as well, I need to return to the sect too. Let’s go together."
"I can’t say when I’ll return; I haven’t finished my business here," Feng Jun decisively refused. What a joke, even if he were braver, he couldn’t possibly return to the sect with Han Ling. "If you want to go back, you go ahead first."
Han Ling frowned, "How many days do you plan to stay? Let’s just leave together."
"How can I give you a definite number?" Feng Jun shook his head. "If things go smoothly, it’ll be quicker; if not, it’s hard to say."
Han Ling scrutinized him, her face cold as she asked, "What kind of deal are you making?"
"I already told you, you don’t need to ask!" Feng Jun appeared slightly agitated. "I get the job done just as well as you."
He had carefully selected Han Feng to impersonate, so even without a soul search, he understood the person’s temperament well. He knew this favored disciple had a bad temper and was eager to prove himself.
His personality could lead to unpredictable events; otherwise, Feng Jun wouldn’t have chosen to impersonate him.
Han Ling was silent for a moment and then suddenly said, "Take out your Battle Vine, let me take a look."
"Won’t you give it a rest?" Feng Jun frowned, speaking irritatedly, and then a flash of green flickered at his fingertip, "It’s just advanced, I tell you. Can’t you cut me some slack?"
Advanced? Han Ling had already noticed that the green hue was unlike the appearance of his Battle Vine. Saying it had advanced was certainly reasonable, but being scrutinized closely could be considered prying into someone’s cards.
Given their relationship, if Han Ling insisted on seeing it, Han Feng wouldn’t be able to refuse. While privacy among fellow disciples was important, sharing was also normal. Was it too much for a senior sister to care a bit about her junior brother?
Han Ling initially contemplated insisting, as she was a somewhat forceful senior sister. But just then, a moment of daze passed over her mind, and she huffed lightly, "Forget it. Seeing that you’re acting to relieve my worries, I’ll let you off this time."
At this moment, Yi Jue’s Divine Sense was transmitted over, "That one intervened, you’re quite fortunate."
Feng Jun reacted swiftly. Upon receiving this Divine Sense message, he immediately began to play it up, "It’s already late today. If Senior Sister is going back to the sect, why not leave tomorrow?"
Just as he thought, Han Ling’s decision had been slightly influenced, and the words she uttered didn’t match her original intention. However, once said, they couldn’t be taken back. She was internally unbalanced at the moment, and upon hearing his suggestion, she rejected it flatly, "What does it matter if it’s evening? As long as the Transmission Array is usable."
After saying that, she realized she hadn’t initially planned to leave today.
As someone at the Golden Core Eighth Layer, she could control her emotions well. However, dealing with her junior brother sometimes made her make irrational decisions, more than once. So she didn’t think her changes were influenced by anything.
But finally, she adjusted her mood a bit, "Once I leave, you must return to the settlement to rest every night. I’ll inform Uncle Wang Yue, and if you don’t listen, you’ll be detained immediately."
Having said that, she didn’t bother with Han Feng’s reaction. Her body flickered and vanished in the direction of the settlement.
Wang Yue is the Guardian of the Settlement, at the Nascent Soul Initial Stage of cultivation. His seniority is lower than Tie Gu, and their philosophies differ. His attitude towards Spirit Plant Sect is relatively neutral; he does not think the two sects share the same origin, nor does he feel the need to persuade the other side.
Previously, he was in charge of this place, but at that time, Lingmu Sect disciples mainly lived in the experimental Forbidden Area of Tie Gu and other elders. Later, Feng Jun and Yi Jue broke the Forbidden Area significantly, and recently, Jinwu Disciples also came to provoke once, so now the ordinary settlement is a bit safer.
Feng Jun knew this cause and effect in detail, so after Han Ling entered the Transmission Array, he returned to the settlement and sought to see the True Immortal Wang Yue.
It could be said that True Immortal Wang Yue might not really meet him, as there was originally a disparity in their identities, and he was not part of Tie Gu’s camp. Being able to provide appropriate protection was already good enough. Feng Jun sought to meet him merely as a formality, to show he was not afraid of investigation.
However, to his surprise, True Immortal Wang Yue actually agreed to see him.
It was a middle-aged man with a face like a full moon, looking somewhat amiable, who very straightforwardly expressed upon meeting him.
"Your senior sister Han Ling has asked me sincerely to look after you. I don’t have much contact with the disciples of your branch, but since we are all under the Lingmu Sect, and your seniors have fallen, I must take some measure of the responsibility of a senior uncle, understood?"
Feng Jun wasn’t worried that the other could see through him. In fact, after Tie Gu’s death, at least five Nascent Souls from this branch had fallen, and the loss of Nascent Soul-level combat strength in Lingmu was significant, even affecting other branches, causing considerable loss to Lingmu Sect.
So this branch of Tie Gu wasn’t well-liked. While it didn’t result in hostility, people wouldn’t go out of their way to greet them when there was nothing happening, akin to cold violence.
Feng Jun’s greatest concern was with Han Ling and another junior Brother; they were more familiar with him. However, since Han Ling had left, the other junior brother was outside his consideration.
So facing True Immortal Wang Yue, he dared to take the initiative, "Greetings, True Immortal. Our cultivation materials have been rather tight recently. I am working hard on some business deals; why must I return at night?"
"There’s no reason," True Immortal Wang Yue, though meeting him, had no mind to say much, "Just consider it a rule."
However, "Han Feng" appeared to inherit the ruthlessness of Tie Gu’s line, as he openly declared, "My master and uncle fell in battle with the Spirit Plant Sect; as disciples, we can’t even dare to draw our swords?"
"What nerve!" True Immortal Wang Yue’s face darkened, immediately exerting Nascent Soul pressure, "Are you teaching me how to do things?"
"Disciple dares not," Feng Jun stood firmly, but beads of sweat instantly formed on his forehead. His eyelids drooped, showing respect to the Nascent Soul True Immortal, but he still expressed, "I just want others to know that under the Lingmu Sect, there is no shortage of warriors brave enough to fight."
"Are you saying I’m afraid to fight?" True Immortal Wang Yue laughed in anger; though he had a good temper, he couldn’t tolerate such offenses.
However, after a pause, he finally sighed quietly, "Very well, if you insist on seeking death, I’ll let you... you don’t have to return at night, but I hope you won’t stay far from this place."
"Thank you, senior uncle, for your fulfillment," Feng Jun cupped his hands respectfully and then spoke again, "I am puzzled about one thing; haven’t we already arranged a Space Locking Formation and other measures, isn’t that scoundrel incapable of further audacity?"
"Who can be so certain about matters of combat!" Though Wang Yue held disdain for that scoundrel’s arrogance, he ultimately appreciated fiery young disciples; no sect would discount such spirited members—if they’re not bold in youth, how can they be expected to show fervor in old age?
So he couldn’t help but offer advice, "It hasn’t been peaceful lately; the Longyang Follower’s nameplate from the Songzhan Sector shattered. Who would bother dealing with a Follower? Many suspect that the Spirit Plant Sect is making a move."
"Longyang Follower?" Feng Jun raised his eyebrows, somewhat surprised, as in his impression, this Patron was very low-key, to the point that many didn’t even know where this person was from or how high their cultivation level was, "I haven’t heard much about this person."
"Step back," True Immortal Wang Yue waved his hand, not answering his question, instead saying, "Today’s words, if spoken to another, I will take your head."
Feng Jun took a deep breath and slowly nodded, "Thank you, senior uncle, for elucidating. Earlier... I heard nothing."
"That’s better," True Immortal Wang Yue nodded, "Finally, I advise you, stay here at night if unnecessary."
"Understood," Feng Jun nodded, saluted, and then took his leave.
That night, Feng Jun really did not leave the settlement. Han Feng’s junior brother came looking to talk to him, but Feng Jun simply stated, "I have some matters to plan these days, junior brother, do not disturb me."
The junior brother obviously dared not defy the senior brother’s command, so the night passed without words, and early the next morning, Feng Jun left again.
He wandered around until noon; Yi Jue finally came from afar, "No one is watching you now, what did you do last night?"
"There’s a name that might be a clue," Feng Jun repeated the matter, "...do you have information on Longyang Follower?"
