Bizarre Voyage: Summoning The Fourth Crisis
Chapter 30 - 310: Bu Long and Shield, Dark BoundaryStartled, Brother Mangzi thought he was hearing things.
But just as he was about to leave, he saw the sturdy player being viciously mauled by Fish People.
Brother Mangzi decided to help him out before leaving.
As a veteran player, Brother Mangzi’s strength was not to be underestimated. He might get overwhelmed out on the Ocean, but handling two Ordinary Beach Fishmen was a piece of cake.
After clubbing the Fish People to dust with a couple of THWACKS, Brother Mangzi turned to look at the player with the ID "Bron Really Not Deaf."
He was tall and burly, with a rugged face that held a hint of simple-minded honesty, giving him a rather reassuring presence.
"Thanks, bro."
A delicate, high-pitched young boy’s voice emerged from Bu Long’s mouth, which was framed by a wiry, tangled beard.
"Who’s talking?!"
Brother Mangzi jumped, staring at Bu Long in disbelief.
"Dude, you..."
"Uh... I was born with this voice, sorry about that." Bu Long chuckled, seemingly used to this reaction.
Only then was Brother Mangzi certain that the voice, so completely at odds with his appearance, had really come from him.
"...Are you an adult?"
Brother Mangzi still couldn’t quite believe it and asked tentatively.
’Maybe he’s a minor who created a burly-looking character. That would explain why it’s so awkward.’
"Of course I am. You can’t buy the helmet otherwise."
"...The contrast is just too much..."
Brother Mangzi finally accepted it. After a quick complaint, he offered a tip:
"Don’t fight these monsters in close combat. Even if your Power is high enough, it’ll take forever to kill one. Dodge their key Attacks and look for an opening..."
As a battle maniac, Brother Mangzi had also stubbornly tried to brawl with these Fish People, but after fighting for ages, he realized using a Weapon was much easier.
As for dodging... while he hated doing it, these monsters’ damage was seriously high. Taking a single pounce would nearly bottom out his Life Value. He had no choice but to Dodge!
As he spoke, Brother Mangzi suddenly noticed the Small Wooden Shield in Bu Long’s hand, and he fell silent for a moment.
"Why’d you pick a Small Wooden Shield as your starting Weapon?"
"A Shield can block damage. That’s great, isn’t it?"
"Shields in this game can’t parry, they only let you take hits. Didn’t you read any guides?"
"I did."
"Then why did you still pick it? How are you going to kill monsters with a wooden Shield?"
"I can use my fists."
Bu Long didn’t seem to mind, replying with a smile, "Besides, my Talent lets me reflect damage, so it goes well with a Shield."
Brother Mangzi had thought this newcomer was a lost cause, but when he heard this, his interest was suddenly piqued.
"Reflect damage?"
Brother Mangzi looked at him in surprise.
"Yep." With that, Bu Long shared the specific details of his Talent with him.
[Rebound: When receiving a physical Attack, a portion of the damage is reflected back to the enemy. Constitution +1.]
"Whoa! A Talent that increases Constitution. Yours looks a bit stronger than old Miao’s."
Brother Mangzi clicked his tongue in amazement.
However, judging from the recent fight, his Talent hadn’t shown its true strength yet.
"Find a chance to swap out your Weapon. Otherwise, killing monsters in the early game will be too much of a struggle."
Brother Mangzi kindly advised him.
Bu Long nodded in agreement with the veteran player’s advice.
His Talent certainly had potential, but he needed to level up first.
...
「Off the coast of Candle Island.」
Li Miao, Faraway, Guagua, and Brother Yu had formed a temporary party and were exploring the coastal waters, pushing forward bit by bit.
Li Miao and Guagua were in charge of killing monsters and tracking drops, while Faraway provided Remote support and recorded the monsters’ characteristics.
’Foul-smelling Squid, leader is the Foul-smelling Giant Octopus. Not strong individually, but extremely difficult to deal with in groups. Can drop Stinky Ink Sacs, effect unknown...’
’Rot Head Shark, an Elite Monster with no leader. Fairly strong individually. Can drop Rotten Shark Fin, which restores a large amount of Life Value when eaten but inflicts the Poisoned status...’
’It seems all these monsters have some terrifying quality to them, to a greater or lesser extent...’
Faraway silently committed all this information about the monsters to memory.
There was a wide variety of monsters in the coastal waters, and unlike the monsters on Candle Island, they didn’t almost all have a Leader Level equivalent.
They also dropped Wax Oil and respawned at fixed locations, but they rarely dropped complete pieces of equipment.
The three of them were busy, and of course, Brother Yu wasn’t idle either.
Well, perhaps that wasn’t entirely accurate.
He was helping out while keeping an eye on his fishing rod, so he looked pretty busy...
...
Aside from Li Miao’s group, Niuniu and Mushroom were also slowly sailing through the coastal waters on a Spirit Fire Raft.
However, their main goal wasn’t to explore the coastal area.
"Niu, I think you should just stop wasting your energy. What’s so great about exploring the game’s boundary?"
"If you’re lucky, it’ll just send you back. If you’re unlucky, what if you crash the whole game?"
Mushroom tried to dissuade him.
That’s right. Niuniu’s goal was to explore the Dark Boundary beyond the coastal waters.
That pitch-black, gloomy expanse seemed to hold some strange attraction for Niuniu.
"Not scared. It’s just a game, why chicken out?"
Niuniu was completely unfazed.
He had wanted to see what the game’s boundary beyond the coast was like for a long time.
So, after some preparation, he had dragged Mushroom along to explore with him.
They were currently bypassing many of the already-discovered monster locations, heading straight for the edge of the coastal waters.
Within that pitch-black boundary, it wasn’t empty. Some unknown power seemed to be surging, and blurred images intertwined ceaselessly, creating a chaotic and horrifying sight.
The border where the Ocean met the darkness was also a blur.
"Almost there!"
Niuniu was thrilled.
Mushroom was suddenly startled and looked around in fear. "What was that sound?"
"Huh?" Niuniu looked at him, surprised.
"You didn’t hear it? There was a weird noise..." Mushroom suddenly felt a chill run down his spine. Something in the Dark Boundary seemed to make his very Soul recoil instinctively.
"What weird noise..." Niuniu muttered. He listened carefully but heard nothing, so he didn’t dwell on it and looked ahead. "We’re here!"
After stopping the Spirit Fire Raft, Niuniu raised his head. What met his eyes was a chaotic darkness that filled his entire vision and connected with the sky.
His heart suddenly sank, as if some force was influencing his mood, disrupting his once-firm confidence.
"Hm? This is a little spooky..."
Niuniu took a breath, shook his head to forcibly suppress these feelings, and then reached out to touch the darkness.
But he paused, turned around, and took everything out of his inventory, handing it all to Mushroom.
Then, he took a deep breath.
’No matter what kind of spooky crap this is, I have to give it a try!’
"Leap of Faith! Hah!"
With a determined glint in his eyes, Niuniu shouted and leaped toward the boundary!
In that instant.
His figure plunged directly into the dark boundary, as if swallowed whole by a Giant Beast!
Instantly, countless cries of pain and anguish erupted, as if trying to violently crush and shatter his very thoughts!
Endless blood and despair surged forth, frantically assaulting his sanity...
...
「Meanwhile.」
Luo Ge, who was busy organizing information on the coastal Sea Monsters, suddenly frowned.
"Hm?"
He sensed what had happened, and after understanding the full story, Luo Ge’s expression darkened.
’It’s this guy again. He’s got some serious nerve, jumping straight into the boundary.’
"This kid really knows how to pull a stunt!"
Luo Ge felt a headache coming on.
But, despite the headache, he had at least learned just how terrifying the power of the Dark Boundary truly was.
