Chapter 318: His Heart

"Is there a way that you can remove the restrictions for Yin?"

As Si’s words, he was not standing in the hall and was asking the Judge a way for Yin to reclaim his identity as a powerful devil.

"Why do you want it?" The Judge asked him.

"Because it’s his."

"Yeah, it’s his not yours, so why is it you who’s asking?"

Si looks at the silhouette sitting on the throne. "Your Majesty, I am asking for him."

"Oh?" A hint of interest flashed on the latter’s tone. "Why?"

"Because he helped me. I want to repay him." he answered truthfully.

"Then there are many ways of repaying him."

"Your Majesty, this is what he wants," he paused. "Just like how I want to have a heart, I want to give him something that he wants."

The Judge was silent for a second. "A heart. You want a heart? I thought you were just doing this, I commanded you."

"That’s true." A small smile flashes on his lips. "But now that I understand many things, I want to change myself. Your Majesty, you are right. In order to be a proper grim reaper, I need to have a heart to understand what souls want to fulfill. It was my neglect of duty so I want to do my responsibility properly from now on."

These are his truest thoughts. The experience he had after being enlightened changed his perspective. He was blind back then. He was too focused on just achieving what he felt right and didn’t care for others.

Everyday he was surrounded by death and blood. The cruelty and darkness that he faced iced him, thus he was not able to see the goodness of them. He thought souls merely as a task, not feeling any empathy towards them. But after he received a warmth that he never knew, he finally admitted that he was so wrong.

He was not naive to think that everyone is like the old woman nor Ruan Tang who always showed goodness but just like how Liu Hua and Baobao gave chances to them because they believe that there’s still goodness inside them, he wanted to give that chance to anybody too. A chance to atone their sins and regret.

Just like that devil.

"I apologize, but I cannot give you an answer for what you want."

His thoughts were interrupted when he heard the Judge’s rejection. No. 444 was stunned.

"Why? What do you mean?" He was confused.

"Is that what he really wants?"

He nodded. "That’s what he told me."

The Judge didn’t respond. Just as he thought that it’s because he didn’t want to help, the latter finally proceeded on speaking.

"There’s a huge price of everything, No. 444."

"What price?" He didn’t mind. Just like how he became a powerful grim reaper, he believes that he can do it anyway through hard work.

"Your merit."

****

"Are you sure about it?" Yin looked at the grim reaper with pure astonishment. He heard about what happened and just listening to him casually saying he will do an effort to help him left him speechless. All of the sudden, he couldn’t understand the man’s stubbornness now.

Why is he so eager to help him?

"Of course." Si didn’t really hesitate. "I will do it, believe me. Seriously, why are you like Your Majesty? I can do it!"

The devil could only look at the man in silence.

"By the way, have you already thought about my new name?" No. 444 changed the topic.

"I haven’t."

He frowned. "Is it that hard to name someone?"

The latter didn’t answer so he didn’t probe any further. He just looks Yin in the eyes with confidence and straightforwardness and offers a smile.

"I will work hard to grant your wish."

"... Why?"

Yin’s eyes stared at the grim reaper’s face, trying every way on observing the man’s face to figure out something as if the emotions on his face would answer the doubt inside him.

He just couldn’t understand it fully. Just because he accompanied him and for that name, he is willing to give him his merit? He doesn’t think just because of this, he will sacrifice something that big, not to mention any possibilities of him causing trouble in the future. Is he not afraid of what he can do?

"I don’t know why you have this confidence in me," he paused solemnly and looked at him. "But thank you."

No. 444 froze. He raised his head slightly and directly met Yin’s gaze. His eyes were looking at him without any concealment of emotions in his eyes. It was a gratitude that he never expected from a devil and something else that he couldn’t understand.

He didn’t know but as he stared at those eyes, he felt the surroundings around him go silent. They were inside his room and his location was up high in a building yet with his sensitive sensory, he could vaguely hear people outside. Yet at this moment, he could not. His ears went close and as this deafening silence continued, his ear perked up when he caught something.

At first it was very faint that could not be noticed but gradually an unfamiliar type of noise became louder. In fact it wasn’t loud that could be heard directly but amidst the silence in the room, that noise snapped him back to his senses.

Si subconsciously looked away and he instinctively wanted to look for the origin of that sound but before he could, he saw Yin frown a bit.

"Don’t move." Yin instructed which he followed. Then the man took a step forward close towards him and suddenly raised his hand.

He didn’t move. He could not sense any malice on the latter’s action so he was curious, but in the next second, his action totally caught him off guard.

Using his right hand that he raised, he pointed his chest with his index finger. "There."

"????"

"There’s a sound."

"???" At first he didn’t get what he meant so he subconsciously lowered his head. Yin’s finger was directly pointing at his chest, the direction which a heart could be located—

"!!!"

He froze. His eyes widened when he realized what he meant.

A sound? Indeed, there is.

A beating sound can be faintly heard inside his chest.
