(BL) Reborn as Lycan's Emperor's abandoned Beta concubine?!
Chapter 34. A hidden memories?Chapter 34: 34. A hidden memories?
AN HOUR LATER
XAVIER
An hour had passed. I still hadn’t woken up. I lay unconscious on the healer’s cot, surrounded by too many worried people for such a small room.
"His heartbeat is steady."The imperial healer checked my pulse again.
"Then why hasn’t he awakened?"Lang Li immediately looked at him.
"I don’t know, Your Majesty."The healer hesitated.
"Check again."Lang Li ordered.
"I already have."A healer said.
"Then check again."He ordered again.
"Yes, Your Majesty."The healer swallowed.
"He simply collapsed."Beside him, the Empress Dowager paced anxiously.
"He was speaking normally."Lin Rui stood near the cot, her eyes fixed on me.
"Could the identity revelation have caused this?"Zhao Rui’s hands were clenched tightly behind his back.
"There is no obvious injury."The healer shook his head.
"Poison?" Shen asked.
"I found no signs of poison."The healer immediately looked offended.
"Magic?"Shen asked.
"Nothing."The healer shook his head.
"Curse?"Shen asked.
"Nothing."A healer shook her head.
"So we have no idea."Shen exhaled.
"That is unfortunately correct."The healer quietly nodded.
"Find out."Lang Li’s expression darkened.
"Yes, Your Majesty."A healer nodded.
Ana stood near the doorway, nervously squeezing her hands together.
"Master Wei has never fainted like this before."Ana said.
"He always complains when he’s tired. He never just falls unconscious."Hin nodded rapidly.
"Was he eating properly?"The Empress Dowager looked toward them.
"Mostly."Ana hesitated.
"Mostly?"She asked.
"He gets distracted when he’s cooking."Ana said.
"And sometimes he forgets to eat because he is preparing food for everyone else."Hin quickly added.
"How often?"Lang Li’s eyes narroed.
"Well..."Ana suddenly looked nervous.
"How often?"He asked.
"Sometimes."She said.
"Quite often."Hin quietly corrected her.
"Of course."Lang Li closed his eyes.
"He was pale before he collapsed."Lin Rui looked at me again.
"And then he mentioned seeing something."Zhao Rui’s expression tightened.
Everyone became silent.
"What did he see?"Shen looked at him.
"I don’t know."He said.
"He said he didn’t know either."Lang Li’s voice was quiet.
Lin Rui slowly approached the cot. She carefully looked at my sleeping face.
"He looks so young."She said softly.
"Twenty five years."Zhao Rui stood beside her. His voice cracked slightly. "We searched for twenty five years."
"Do not assume anything yet."Lang Li looked toward them.
"I know."Zhao Rui met his gaze.
"But he is still Chef Wei." Lang Li’s voice became firmer. "Until we know the truth, nobody will treat him as anything else."
"Agreed."Lin Rui nodded.
"Your Majesty."The healer suddenly looked up.
Everyone turned.
"What?"Lang Li asked.
"There was a change."A healer said.
"What change?"Lang Li immediately stepped toward the cot.
"His heartbeat increased."The healer checked my pulse again.
"Is he waking up?"Ana gasped.
"I don’t know."A healer said hesistently.
"Wei?"Lang Li leaned closer. He gently touched my shoulder. "Wei, can you hear me?"
My fingers twitched as everyone froze.
"He moved."Lin Rui covered her mouth.
"Yes."The healer stared.
"Wei."Lang Li’s expression changed instantly.
My fingers moved again, then my eyebrows twitched slightly.
"Master Wei?"Ana whispered,
I remained unconscious.
"He is beginning to respond."The healer quickly checked my pulse.
A collective breath escaped the room.
"Ding." The system flickered above me. "Memory restoration progress: 2%." The screen glitched. "Warning. Unstable identity data detected."
Then it disappeared. Nobody except me could see it, but my fingers tightened slightly around the blanket, and somewhere deep inside my unconscious mind, a child’s voice whispered one word.
"Mother."A voice said deep inside my memories.
My eyelids felt impossibly heavy. I slowly opened my eyes. The first thing I saw was the ceiling as voice was gone. The second thing I saw was everyone. Lang Li was standing directly beside the cot, the Empress Dowager was behind him. Emperor Zhao Rui and Empress Dowager Lin Rui stood at the foot of the cot. Shen, Ana, Hin, and even the imperial healer were all staring at me. I blinked once, twice.
"Why is everyone staring at me?" I asked.
"Master Wei!"Ana immediately rushed forward.
"I am fine." I tried to sit up.
"Don’t."Lang Li gently stopped me.
"Why?"I looked at him.
"You fainted."Lang Li said.
"I did?"I froze.
"Yes." The healer sighed with relief. "Thankfully, you are awake."
"How long was I unconscious?"I looked around again.
"About an hour."A healer said.
"An hour?!" I stared at everyone. "Why didn’t anyone just wake me?"
Nobody answered. Then I noticed Lin Rui’s eyes. They were slightly red.
"Are you feeling any pain?"She stepped closer.
"No."I shook my head.
"Do you remember what happened?"She asked.
"The meeting."I hesitated.
Everyone became silent.
"I remember the scar."I swallowed.
"And then?"Zhao Rui’s expression tightened.
"Something flashed in my head."I rubbed my temple.
"What did you see?"Lang Li immediately leaned closer.
"I don’t know."I looked at him.
Then a strange warmth spread through my chest.
"Ding." The system appeared. "Memory restoration detected."
"Please don’t do this now."I groaned.
"Fragment recovered." My vision suddenly blurred. A woman’s voice echoed faintly in my mind. "Sleep, my little moon..."
I froze, as I could feel my heart start pounding. Lin Rui noticed my expression.
"What is it?"She asked.
"I think..." I looked at her as my voice trembled. "I heard someone calling me."
"What did they call you?"Zhao Rui stepped forward.
I opened my mouth, but before I could answer, the system flickered violently.
"Memory fragment unstable. Recovery interrupted."The system said.
"I don’t know."I stared at the space, and somehow, that frightened me more than fainting ever could. "I not sure."
"Drink."Lang Li handed me a cup of warm tea.
"Thank you."I accepted it with both hads.
After that, nobody really knew what to say. An hour later, I was sitting silently in the palace garden, staring at the pond. I hadn’t cooked, I hadn’t complained and I hadn’t even made a single joke. Apparently, that was enough to make everyone nervous
"He’s been sitting there for an hour."Ana peeked from behind a pillar.
"Should we talk to him?" Hin whispered.
"Maybe."Ana said.
"Something is bothering him."The Empress Dowager watched me from the pavilion.
"Obviously."Emperor Zhao Rui nodded.
"He seems frightened."Lin Rui looked worried.
Lang Li stood silently nearby, his golden eyes fixed on me.
"Your Majesty, perhaps you should speak with him."Shen quietly approached him.
Lang Li didn’t answer immediately. Then he picked up another cup of tea and walked toward me. I heard his footsteps but didn’t turn around. He sat beside me, and for several moments, neither of us spoke.
"You don’t have to explain anything."Finally, he placed the tea beside my hand. "But you don’t have to sit here alone either."
I looked at him, and then I stared at the tea. For some reason, those simple words made my chest tighten.
"Ding. Emotional support event detected."A system said.
"Not now."I sighed.
"What?"Lang Li glanced at me.
"Nothing."I sighed.
He stayed beside me anyway, and somehow, that made the garden feel a little less lonely. I was still sitting quietly in the garden when I heard footsteps approaching. I looked up and Mei Lin was walking toward me with Huan beside her.
"Huan?"I asked.
"Chef Wei."He smiled.
"We brought you something."Mei Lin smiled softly.
"Something?"I asked.
Huan reached into his robes and carefully placed a tiny copper box on the table in front of me. I stared at it. I had never seen it before or maybe I did in the original novel.
"What’s this?"I asked.
"Happy birthday."Huan’s smile widened.
"My birthday?"I blinked.
"Yes."Huan nodded.
"We thought you might like it."Mei Lin clasped her hands together.
I picked up the little box. It was surprisingly heavy for its size. Strange symbols were engraved across the lid, including a crescent surrounded by tiny red flowers.
Before I could ask about them, several visiting nobles passing through the garden suddenly stopped. One stared at the box.
"That symbol..." A third person stepped closer. "That’s impossible."
"What?"Huan’s expression changed.
"Those are Red Moon Flower royal symbols."The noble pointed toward the engraving.
"What?"My fingers immediately tightened around the box.
"I haven’t seen that crest in decades."The nearby nobles began whispering.
"That’s not an ordinary royal symbol." The first one said.
"It’s the old imperial heir’s emblem."The second one added.
I slowly looked at Huan as he suddenly looked far less amused. Mei Lin’s smile disappeared and across the garden, Lang Li had already risen from his seat.
"Ding."The system flickered. "Critical plot object detected."
I stared at the tiny copper box.
"But I just got this..."I whispered and noticed both Envoy guests staring at it like I got something that belonged only to them.
No one answered, and somehow, I already knew my birthday had just become extremely complicated.
