Black and White Martial Emperor
Chapter 377: Stagnant Water Is Bound to Rot (2)For a moment, Yangcheon lost the words to answer Mo Yonggun’s terrifying torrent of abuse.
The question of how this man knew about the Perverse Lust Cult came second. Yangcheon had never imagined that, aside from the masters of the Supreme Heavens, there existed anyone with the guts to hurl this kind of abuse at him.
Mo Yonggun continued.
“How do I know about the Perverse Lust Cult? How do you think I found out? Because I planted a spy inside Ink Dragon Manor? Because I ordered my foolish bitch of a daughter to steal Ink Dragon Manor’s information? Not even close!”
“.......”
“While you were playing great commander across this vast land of Hunan, we were hunting down the bastards of the Three Creeds one by one after they seized control of the Henan authorities!”
“......!”
“At first, I couldn’t believe it. I never thought those frontier barbarians had that much power. But they are strong! It was fortunate we struck first. If we hadn’t known, the entire Martial Alliance would have been smashed apart from the roots within a few years!”
A dense Killing Intent settled in Mo Yonggun’s eyes.
Astonishingly, that Killing Intent was not aimed at the Three Creeds, but at Yangcheon. He truly harbored murderous intent toward Yangcheon.
“Where else have these sons of bitches hidden themselves? I was curious. So I investigated. I poured every bit of the Martial Alliance’s power into that investigation. And then I found it. Where one of the Three Creeds, the Perverse Lust Cult, was connected! Who the fool was, living like some grand commander in this sacred land of the Central Plains by borrowing the strength of frontier barbarians!”
“......!!”
“It was you. I was in awe, wondering how you had deceived the eyes of the entire Orthodox Path and built an organization as grand as Ink Dragon Manor. I thought Vice Manor Lord Yang’s methods were beyond imagination. But that wasn’t it at all!”
Mo Yonggun pointed at Yangcheon with his index finger.
“Are you a pawn of the Three Creeds?!”
“......You would do well to watch that mouth.”
“If not! How could a man known as one of the Central Plains’ foremost masters, a great senior of the martial world, join hands with barbarians and gorge his own belly!”
“Will you not shut your mouth!!”
FSSSSSH!
Yangcheon’s roar contained truly dreadful power. It was almost like a sound art, and the shout drove Mo Yonggun’s body sliding backward.
But Mo Yonggun was not cowed in the slightest. Rather, his qi wave burned even more fiercely.
“Why are you angry? Do you think you have the right to be angry?!”
“What?”
“The Orthodox Path and the Dark Path have clashed for hundreds of years, but even so, we are people of the Central Plains! Our values differ and our cultures differ, but we are all Central Plains people! And yet you clung to an outside power to build a force of that scale and strut around? Can you truly say you are not in league with the Three Creeds!”
Saaaaaak!
The qi wave pouring from Yangcheon’s body began to ripple, bit by bit.
His emotions had surged after hearing Mo Yonggun’s words, abuse and yet not quite abuse. At the same time, he was more flustered than he had ever been.
And that flustered feeling came from one emotion he did not want to admit to himself: shame. Under Mo Yonggun’s cutting rebuke, Yangcheon felt his heart sting as though he had been caught doing something wrong.
This bastard.
Fwoooooosh!
The wavering qi wave soon formed a powerful density.
He was burying his shame and bewilderment beneath anger. A sharp Killing Intent filled the glare Yangcheon fixed on Mo Yonggun.
“I listened and listened, and now your insolence has crossed the line! Even if I must wage war against the Orthodox martial world today, I will begin with you and drown the entire Mo Yong Clan in blood!”
“The ones you should be attacking!!”
Mo Yonggun did not retreat in the slightest even before Yangcheon’s momentum.
“The ones you should be raging to devour are not me, not my clan, and not the Martial Alliance! The target you should be aiming those fists you have tempered for decades against is far beyond the frontier!”
“You bastard!”
“Do you know why I came all the way here just to confront you? Do you know why, when foreign enemies are raising their strength and eyeing the Central Plains, I did not go begging to the other masters of the Supreme Heavens, but came to you and hurled these insults instead!”
Mo Yonggun spat the words as though chewing them out.
“Because I still have a sliver of expectation left for you.”
“What?”
“If I have not misjudged you! Because I thought that, at the very least, a man called Yangcheon the Fighting King might refuse to bow that stiff neck, but would still understand what was wrong, what his own mistake was, and what he himself must do even now!”
“......!!”
“Do you think I would have come here if I had not thought that? Yes, I would have come. But I would have come to draw you out and kill you. Even if I had to win over the other masters of the Supreme Heavens to do it!”
Yangcheon’s eyes trembled.
Mo Yonggun, who had been breathing roughly, quickly steadied his breath.
“Vice Manor Lord Yang.”
“.......”
“I will ask again. Did you join hands with the Perverse Lust Cult? Are you in league with the Three Creeds?”
“.......”
“Why can you not answer! I am asking whether you are a pathetic bastard who kept barbarians at your back, contracted with me while I knew nothing, and tried to hand the entire Central Plains over to them, beginning with the Martial Alliance!”
It was harsh, and then harsher still.
Mo Yonggun’s language had already crossed even the realm of rudeness. He was attacking the other man wildly with words so provocative that it would not have been strange for blades to come out then and there.
Despite that, Yangcheon could not easily open his mouth. Even the murderous qi wave that had been burning like fire had, at some point, faded by half.
Because he knew. Because he understood.
He understood why Mo Yonggun was angry, and why he was glaring at him with such loathing in his eyes.
To begin with, Yangcheon had not joined hands with the Perverse Lust Cult. He had merely intended to borrow the Perverse Lust Cult’s strength to unite the Dark Path.
In other words, he had only intended to use their ability. He had never thought of becoming one of them from the very beginning. If that had not been the case, he would not have dealt with Black Sheep as he did.
However.
......Had I been hesitating too?
When Jeong, the former Director of the Intelligence Division, lost his life at the enemies’ hands, Yangcheon had collapsed unconscious due to an unknown cause.
When he woke again, he had instinctively understood why he had fallen.
The Perverse Lust Cult Leader!
That was right.
He had once fought a one-on-one duel against the Perverse Lust Cult Leader beyond the frontier.
At the time, the Perverse Lust Cult Leader had already been a complete master. Yangcheon himself had been the same, but astonishingly, the Perverse Lust Cult Leader’s power had been one step above his.
The trace left by that palm still remained carved into his chest even now. And that palm print was still shaving away at his body by the slightest degrees.
In other words, the Perverse Lust Cult Leader had not trusted him either. Ink Dragon Manor had been nothing more than a bridgehead for advancing into the Central Plains, not something seen as a comrade that would move into the future together.
Why did I stay still?
Yangcheon thought. He thought about why, even after realizing that fact, he had not tried to attack the Perverse Lust Cult.
That is not the kind of man I am.
Yangcheon the Fighting King.
Among the Thirteen Seats of the Supreme Heavens, he was a master of combat said to display the greatest ability in worldly battles.
He did not need even the smallest piece of iron. To carve his way through the world, his two fists were enough. He needed no force and no weapon.
If someone attacked, he answered and smashed them. If someone deceived him, he smashed them. If someone struck him in the back, he ground the other party’s entire organization to dust.
That was the Fighting King. As he wandered the world, he had never once watched the mood of any master or any force.
Then why now? After seeing the Perverse Lust Cult Leader try to turn him into a puppet, why had he not prepared a counterattack?
......!
Yangcheon’s eyes turned bloodshot.
He could face a truth he did not want to admit, a small truth he was too ashamed even to recall.
I cannot win.......
That was right. Yangcheon had judged that he could not defeat the Perverse Lust Cult Leader. Deep in his heart, he had already acknowledged defeat.
Of course, that was not the only reason. Unlike before, he now had subordinates he had to feed. Not one or two, but family numbering in the tens of thousands.
A leader must never act rashly. Yangcheon knew that better than anyone.
Even so, that flimsy reason was not enough to explain why he had simply sat with his ass planted heavily in place until now.
At some point, did I begin finding my greatest strength—struggle itself—burdensome?
A once-in-an-age master said to be the greatest in the Central Plains when it came to struggle had, at some point, become reluctant to struggle at all.
It was nothing short of laughable. The greatest strength that had brought him his present fame—he had gone beyond refusing to use it and had begun to fear it.
Crrrk.
Yangcheon ground his teeth.
The surging shame and his intense disappointment in himself made him feel dizzy.
Mo Yonggun spoke coldly.
“The Martial Alliance’s field force will pass through Hunan and head south.”
“......?!”
“I hear there is a man called a god in the Central Plains’ assassin world. I also hear that bastard has joined the disputes among the southern Orthodox Path sects and is whittling away our strength.”
“......!!”
“The main Alliance’s field-force unit will be dispatched to catch him. I do not know what sort of bastard he is, but with the fighting power of the field force I have in mind, I believe they should be able to deal with him somehow.”
As he spoke, Mo Yonggun watched Yangcheon’s face. Because he had heard the information that Hong Gwan, the man who reigned as emperor of the assassin world, was Yangcheon’s disciple.
Sure enough, Yangcheon’s eyes changed once.
“Do you know him?”
“.......”
“I do not know about anyone else, but I believe there is a possibility that he is connected to the Three Creeds. However, the Three Creeds are not the only ones trying to carve away the flesh of the Orthodox Path.”
Mo Yonggun’s eyes narrowed.
“Is he, perhaps, someone you know?”
For a brief instant, Yangcheon felt an intense urge to deny that fact.
Yangcheon looked at Mo Yonggun.
The suspicion cast in those sharp eyes. The eyes of a strategist thinking about how the opponent would come out, ready to respond the instant he did.
Yangcheon closed his eyes.
“You knew?”
“What do you mean? Say it so I can understand.”
“You already knew that man was connected to me.”
“.......”
“Well, of course. If you had enough intelligence capability to discover that I founded Ink Dragon Manor by borrowing the Perverse Lust Cult’s strength, then you could have discovered that man had some connection to me as well.”
The corners of Mo Yonggun’s mouth rose.
“So you admit it. Yes, according to what I heard and saw, he is said to be your disciple. Was his name Hong Gwan?”
“Yayul Jeok.”
“......?”
“Hong Gwan is an alias. That bastard’s real name is Yayul Jeok.”
“Yayul Jeok.......”
“And that bastard entered as a disciple under the previous Yin God, learned all of his assassination arts, then killed his master and the other disciples before becoming active as the Yin God of the new era.”
Mo Yonggun furrowed his brow.
Yin God? Previous? What is this now?
Yangcheon quietly looked at Mo Yonggun, then turned away.
“When I have sorted out my thoughts, I will send a separate letter to the Martial Alliance. You should go back now as well.”
“Vice Manor Lord Yang.”
“The Martial Alliance’s field force is passing through Hunan, you said? Do as you please. At least this time, I will open the road.”
Mo Yonggun spoke in a gloomy voice.
“You will have to contact us within three months. If you do not, I will regard Ink Dragon Manor as a treacherous enemy that joined hands with foreign forces and attack immediately.”
“Do you people even have that much strength?”
“That is not something you need to consider.”
Yangcheon gave a faint laugh.
“Consider yourself lucky, Clan Lord Mo Yong. Depending on what judgment I make, I may rip the Mo Yong Clan out by the roots before the Three Creeds.”
“......!”
“Go back.”
