Seoha’s POV
There’s water dripping down Minjae’s legs and he’s shaking even though he’s leaning against the door.
I don’t know what to do as my best friend’s knees buckle.
"Fuck" Taesan curses.
"Minjae!" I cry out, pushing past the alpha to catch Minjae as if we weren’t kissing just seconds ago.
"Seoha, I’m scared" Minjae repeats as he clenches his teeth together. Taesan doesn’t say a word to us, he just picks Minjae off the floor and carries him bridal style down the hallway.
"Seoha, I’m scared" Minjae burst into sobs.
His body is shaking violently as Taesan rushes down the stairs with him, and I follow behind them closely with my mind lost in a shocked daze.
"Noona!" Taesan calls loudly, and his sister comes out of the kitchen with a scowl.
She has a green apron around her waist, her hair is up in a pony tail, and Yuki is next to her.
"He’s going into labor" the older woman gasps as she sees Minjae writhing in Taesan’s arms. She takes her apron off and runs over to us.
"Carry him gently, we need to get him to the hospital right now" she says, suddenly throwing orders while I stand frozen.
I’m so scared that I don’t know what to do.
Everyone is doing something useful.
Taerin Noona is on the phone, Yuki is running up the stairs to get something, Taesan is carrying Minjae, and Minjae keeps calling my name.
He keeps calling me and repeating that he’s scared, while I’m uselessly lost in my head, frozen with fear.
Minjae is going into labor.
Minjae, the friend I rarely see in tears, is calling my name helplessly. He stretches his hand towards me like he needs me to come closer, and I snap out of it.
I run to his side to take his hand in mine.
"It’s okay, it’s okay Minnie, Taesan and Taerin noona are taking you to the hospital" I tell him and he shakes his head.
"NO!" he cries out.
I’ve never seen him break like this before, and it’s terrifying in a way I don’t know how to explain.
"It’s okay" I whisper once more.
"I’m so scared, it’s too early...my baby is too early" he cries and I whimper for him, almost losing our physical contact as Taesan moves for the door.
We get into the waiting car.
We sit with my mate carrying my best friend in his lap, while I sit next to them, staring at Minjae’s face.
"I placed a call to the hospital already, where is Junho?" I hear Taerin noona ask from outside the car, and I look around for him.
Once it’s confirmed that the beta is absent, Minjae starts to cry.
"I don’t want to lose my baby...please" he cries, and Taesan regulates his scent to calm the omega.
And instead of calming down, Minjae starts to groan even harder. His body is fighting against Taesan’s scent.
"You won’t lose the baby, Minnie nothing bad will happen to your pup" I whisper to him and he shuts his eyes.
His body is spasming as if something is shaking him from inside.
"Breathe, Minjae, breathe" Taesan says and Minjae starts to breathe with so much difficulty that it makes me more scared.
"Baby, you can’t be scared right now" Taesan says to me and my back straightens. His voice is harsh, but I know he doesn’t mean to sound this way.
"I’m sorry" I apologize, fighting back my tears.
Seeing Minjae in pain is too hard for me.
My best friend’s mouth is hanging open, he’s trying to regulate the pain by breathing through his mouth, and his fingers are squeezing the lapel of Taesan’s drenched suit jacket.
"Baby, I need you to focus" Taesan says softly, and I nod.
"His omega is panicking; he’s rejecting my scent so I can’t help him. Baby, he’ll need you to be strong" he says and I nod, wiping at my face to get rid of the tears that are escaping.
"You’ll be okay, Minnie" I whisper to the omega again, taking his limp hand in my cold one.
Minjae opens his eyes slightly to look at me before squeezing back. He’s still breathing loudly to keep himself together.
"Everything is going to be okay...okay?" I repeat the same stupid promise my brain keeps supplying.
He has to be okay, if he’s not okay, I don’t know if I’ll ever be okay...no, I will never be okay.
Minjae fought to keep his baby...he can’t lose the baby.
He can’t.
"I’m so scared, Seoha...it hurts like I’m dying" he cries and I squeeze his hand, "you won’t die, Minnie...you’ll be okay, the goddess won’t let anything happen to you" I tell him.
The car jostles from how rough the driver is going. The force causes Minnie’s breath to hitch, and he whines in pain.
"Just hold on, we’re almost there" Taesan says roughly and Minjae nods, squeezing his eyes shut and pressing his lips together.
The driver comes to a stop in front of the hospital, and Taesan gets into action immediately. My alpha jumps out of the car and takes Minjae into the building.
With shaky legs, I stumble out of the car to run after them.
A group of nurses gather to assist Taesan. Together they take Minjae into a room while I stand all by myself in the waiting area.
There are other people here too. Some of them are wet from the pouring rain, some look like they’ve been here for a long time, and some look like they’ve lost hope.
I look around me with a pounding heart.
They’re all speaking a language I don’t understand.
They’re all caught up in their own world. They have no idea why I’m starting to hyperventilate in the same way I have no idea why they’re all here.
This is sonder.
"Come on, baby...come here" Taesan wraps his arms around me and hugs me to himself.
His wet clothes smell like the pain that was radiating off my best friend just minutes ago.
"Taesan, me too...I’m scared" I confess and he holds me tighter.
"There’s nothing to be scared of, Seoha. He’s going to be okay" he whispers to me.
I hope so.
I pray so.
