Seoha’s POV

The phone’s dial tone finally stops, and I can’t help but pout and sigh as I drop the phone on my chest.

I miss Taesan.

I had been sleep talking when he left the room, I can only remember fragments of our conversation.

He was going somewhere and I wanted him to wait for me.

My alpha didn’t even get to tell me where he was going before he left me all by myself.

He’s gone and now he’s not accepting my call.

The room door opens slightly and Taerin noona peeks in. The kind older woman has been checking on me for hours now.

"Noona, you’re back" I say in surprise. I’m hoping she doesn’t see the phone on my chest.

"I told you to not use your phone, didn’t I?" she scolds and I try to hide the phone as if she hasn’t seen it.

"I just wanted to talk to Taesan" I murmur shyly, feeling like a kid who was caught with his hands in the cookie jar.

Noona closes the door behind herself before coming into the room with a tray of food.

"You should focus on getting better, how are you doing right now?" she asks as she places the chicken soup on the table next to me.

The food smells like home; the aroma reminds me of the kind of food my grandma used to make for me.

I miss that old woman all of a sudden.

"Your temperature is still warm, does anywhere hurt?" she asks while pressing her cool palm to my head, and I shake my head.

My head hurts, but I don’t want to tell her that. I know she hasn’t slept in a while, and I see the dark circles under her eyes.

"I feel fine" I lie and she complains about me being stubborn headed.

"I can see you wincing, don’t lie to me" she takes her hand off my head and helps me to sit up.

She sits next to me in a chair and sighs tiredly.

"The kids are asleep, it’s exhausting to do all that work by myself but it’s taking me a while to get an assistant, you never know who is who" she says and I nod in agreement with her.

Taerin noona looks up at the ceiling as if she’s fighting off sleep.

"I should take you to the hospital tomorrow" she says and I shake my head.

"I don’t want to go to the hospital, I’ll get better soon" I say in a cracked voice, and she chuckles like Taesan usually does.

"It’s for your good sweetie; your health can’t be taken lightly now that you have two babies in you" she says and I whine.

"Don’t whine about this, you can’t change my mind" she says.

I turn my head to the side to look at her better.

"Noona..." I call and she hums, eyes already heavy with the need to sleep.

"You can go to sleep. You’ve been looking after me all day and I can take care of myself" I say and she shakes her head at me.

"No, I told my brother I’ll take care of you" she says softly, humming an unfamiliar tune.

"Noona..."

"Hmm?"

"Can you tell me about Taesan?" I ask and she smiles softly at my question, humming again

"What do you want to know darling?" she asks, opening her eyes slightly to look at me.

"Anything about when he was a kid" I say, and my words makes her laugh softly.

"He was so cute" she starts to talk and I smile at the tender look on her face.

She looks like an older sister who loves her brother despite the distance and the trouble between them.

"He wasn’t always this big and I thought he would be average height at best" she rolls her eyes.

"Were your parents tall?" I ask and she shakes her head.

"The height comes from my mom’s side of the family, but my mom wasn’t tall" she explains.

"Taesan and I didn’t go to school together; he attended a different school and so did I. It was annoying when girls from my school started to talk about a boy named Taesan in the rival school"

"Was he famous?" I ask.

"Very famous, and he was known for his singing skill"

"Singing? Taesan can sing?" I gasp.

Why didn’t I know about that part of him?

"Yes, he used to sing but not anymore. Grandfather made sure he stopped singing" Taerin says and I frown.

"That man is horrible" I whisper my thought, earning a grin from her.

"Eat your meal, it should be cooler now" she says and I pick the food, thanking her softly before taking the first spoon of the chicken soup.

The savory taste of the warm dakgomtang blooms on my tongue and I smile.

"It’s really delicious, noona" I tell her with my eyes wide from happiness.

It’s really good.

"Eat a lot" noona says, leaning back in her chair to watch me eat the meal she made for me.

"Can you tell me more about Taesan?" I ask and she nods.

"He used to enjoy playing games, but he was really bad at them, so he just did it for the fun and not to win" she says and I remember our first date with Mijae and Junho.

He was really bad at the game, but he kept playing as if he had a secret point to prove.

He looked so cute when he got frustrated by the carnival game that day.

"But that was before grandfather broke his leg" Taerin adds and I wince.

Of course...every good thing in his life is tainted one way or the other by his grandfather.

"Really, Seoha, there aren’t many happy and cute moments that I can share with you" Taerin says in a sad tone that makes my heart feel heavy.

"I understand noona...I also don’t have many happy and cute moments in my life" I tell her.

"That’s sad. You two have to start over and give yourselves and your pups the happy future you all deserve" she says.

"I will" I smile at her.

My phone starts to buzz and the caller ID displays Taesan’s name.

"It’s Taesan isn’t it? Go on and pick up" she says, shaking her head fondly as I put my meal aside and accept the call.

It’s my mate.
