Chapter 115: Chapter 115 — The Ring of Liam
Chapter 115 — The Ring of Liam
Victor stared at Liam for several minutes in silence.
Lyra stood beside him.
Neither of them moved.
The crypt remained completely still, the faint glow of the formations reflecting off the transparent coffin.
Victor’s gaze slowly shifted toward the black ring resting on Liam’s chest.
Something about it bothered him.
Or rather, something about it interested him.
He could feel a strange fluctuation of energy radiating from the ring.
It wasn’t ordinary Spiritual Energy.
His Black Phoenix bloodline seemed to recognize something within it.
Victor frowned.
I shouldn’t take it.
He stared at the ring.
He knew exactly what he was considering.
He was thinking about becoming a grave robber.
The thought sounded terrible.
But the longer he looked at the ring, the harder it became to ignore.
Whatever the ring contained could potentially help him tremendously.
And if he left it behind, he might never know what it was.
Victor sighed internally.
Sorry, Liam.
He walked toward the coffin.
Lyra glanced at him, her eyes narrowing slightly as she watched him approach.
Victor stopped at the end of the coffin.
He raised his hand.
Black flames slowly appeared around his palm.
The same way Samal had done it in the vision.
He directed the flame toward a small hole at the base of the coffin.
The formation immediately reacted.
A faint glow spread across the coffin.
Click.
The transparent lid slowly began to rise.
Lyra’s eyes widened.
She looked at Victor.
Then at the opening coffin.
Then back at Victor.
"You wouldn’t."
Victor paused.
He looked over his shoulder.
Lyra was staring at him with an expression that made her opinion extremely clear.
Victor gave her a slightly embarrassed smile.
He hadn’t expected her to actually say anything.
He turned back toward the coffin.
Then he reached inside.
His fingers closed around the ring.
The moment he picked it up, a strange fluctuation passed through his hand.
Victor’s expression changed.
This thing really is strange.
He turned the ring over several times, examining it from every angle.
It looked simple.
Almost too simple.
A black ring with a thin silver circle running around its surface.
Yet the energy coming from it was unlike anything he had encountered before.
Victor looked over at Lyra.
She was still staring at him.
Judging him.
Victor smiled sheepishly.
Victor held up the ring.
"I think this could tell us something about what happened here."
Her expression didn’t change.
Victor could tell immediately that she didn’t believe him.
Instead, Lyra simply turned away and sat down beside the wall.
Victor looked back at the ring.
"Okay..."
He had absolutely no idea how to use it.
He turned it around in his fingers.
Nothing happened.
He lifted it closer to his face.
Still nothing.
He tried examining the silver line.
Nothing.
Victor frowned.
How am I supposed to use this thing?
He could feel the energy inside it, but there was no obvious mechanism.
Then a thought occurred to him.
Maybe it requires Spiritual Energy.
Victor hesitated.
Then he slowly pushed a small amount of Spiritual Energy into the ring.
The moment his energy touched it—
His consciousness suddenly shifted.
Victor’s eyes widened.
A space appeared within his mind.
It was a perfect cube, roughly six feet by six feet by six feet.
Not enormous.
But definitely large enough to be useful.
Victor stared.
A storage space?
He couldn’t believe it.
He looked around the strange inner space.
There was only one thing inside.
A sword.
Victor recognized it immediately.
It was the exact same sword Liam had been practicing with in the vision.
Victor stared at it.
He wondered how to retrieve it.
He focused his consciousness on the sword.
The next instant—
The sword appeared in his hand.
Victor blinked.
He looked down.
The weapon looked incredibly ordinary.
A simple blade.
A normal-looking sheath.
Nothing about it appeared special.
If Victor had seen it sitting in a random market stall, he probably wouldn’t have given it a second glance.
But when he held it, he felt something.
Something subtle.
He could feel his bloodline calling out to the blade.
The blade seemed to possess a depth he couldn’t comprehend.
Victor slowly ran his eyes along its surface.
Nothing that immediately revealed its power.
Yet he could feel that there was something different about it.
This sword isn’t normal.
Victor decided he would need time to figure out exactly what made it special.
For now, he returned it to its sheath.
He tied the sheath around his waist and positioned the sword on his left side.
It felt strange having a sword at his waist.
Victor looked at the ring again.
He slid it onto his index finger.
The moment it settled into place, he understood how to access the storage space.
A grin slowly spread across his face.
He looked at the small pack on his back.
Then at the ring.
Then back at the pack.
Finally.
Victor opened the storage space and placed his belongings inside.
The pack disappeared.
Victor stared at his empty back.
His grin grew wider.
"No more carrying this thing."
He looked almost ecstatic.
After everything he had been through, the convenience alone felt like an incredible treasure.
Victor looked toward Lyra.
She was shaking her head.
Her expression practically screamed judgment.
Victor’s smile slowly faded.
He turned back toward the coffin.
For a moment, he stared at Liam.
Then he walked toward the end of the coffin again.
Black Flame appeared around his hand.
He directed it toward the formation.
The coffin slowly closed.
The transparent lid settled into place.
Victor stood there for a few seconds.
He looked at Liam one final time.
"Thank you, Liam."
His hand rested briefly against the coffin.
"I’ll put this to good use."
Behind him, Lyra silently stared at him.
She didn’t say anything.
She simply thought,
There’s something really wrong with this human.
Victor turned away from the coffin.
His gaze shifted toward the enormous hole in the wall.
It was the only path left.
He looked at Lyra.
"Well, we only have one way forward."
He gestured toward the opening.
"Are you ready to go check it out?"
Lyra didn’t answer.
She simply stood up.
Then she walked straight toward the hole.
Victor watched her for a moment.
He shook his head.
"Right."
He followed.
Together, they disappeared into the darkness beyond the crypt.
