Chapter 79 — A New Destination

Victor and Moonlight walked through the village toward Oheema’s massive hut.

It was the first time Victor had stepped outside in nearly a month.

As they walked, several tribe members noticed him. Some turned to look, while others whispered quietly among themselves.

Victor noticed the attention but paid it little mind.

Moonlight didn’t bother knocking. She simply opened the door and walked inside, with Victor following close behind.

Oheema was sitting cross-legged on the ground, as usual, cultivating.

But before they had even fully opened the door, Oheema had already opened her eyes.

Her gaze moved between Victor and Moonlight, a puzzled expression appearing on her face. It wasn’t suspicion. She simply couldn’t understand why the two of them had come together.

For a moment, she said nothing.

Then, as they approached, Oheema seemed to realize they wouldn’t both be here unless something important had happened.

She waved a hand toward the ground in front of her.

"Sit."

Victor and Moonlight sat across from her.

Oheema looked between them.

"Well, what do I owe this pleasure?"

Moonlight was the first to speak.

"While Victor was cultivating in front of the statue, he received a vision of Samal."

Oheema’s eyes widened.

She immediately turned toward Victor.

"Is this true?"

Victor nodded.

"Yeah."

Oheema remained silent for a moment before looking back at him.

"What did you see?"

Victor was slightly confused.

Not by the question, but by how easily she had believed him.

She hadn’t questioned whether he had truly seen the vision. There was no doubt in her eyes.

She had simply believed him.

Victor hesitated.

If Oheema was willing to trust him that easily, he felt he should return that trust.

So Victor told them everything he had seen.

The ancient garden. Samal standing among the plants. The war against the beasts. The fallen clans.

And finally, the forbidden technique.

When he finished, silence filled the hut.

Oheema stared at him.

"There is no record of this."

Victor frowned.

"Nothing?"

She shook her head.

"We only know that Samal disappeared after saving us. We never knew why."

She paused.

"This information is very important to me."

Her expression became serious.

"You can’t tell anyone else in the tribe about this."

Moonlight immediately looked at her.

"Why?"

Oheema turned toward her.

"Because this information could affect Victor."

She looked at him.

"Victor was the one who had the vision. They may begin to see him as something more than they already do."

Oheema paused.

"Almost like a prophet."

Victor nodded slowly.

He understood.

Moonlight seemed to understand as well.

"I understand."

Victor let out a small laugh.

"I don’t want that. They’re already bowing to me whenever I walk through the village. We don’t need to make it any worse."

Moonlight smiled faintly.

Oheema shook her head before looking back at Victor.

"We have very little information about our past. Most of it disappeared over time. The cave paintings are some of the only records we have left."

Victor nodded.

"Is there anything in the tribe’s history or records about losing a war to the beasts?"

Oheema shook her head.

"No."

Victor fell silent, his thoughts returning to the vision.

There was still far too much he didn’t understand.

After a moment, he looked toward Oheema again.

"Do you still have my belongings?"

"The map and the sacred writings you guys found. I’d like them back."

Oheema didn’t answer immediately.

Instead, she slowly rose to her feet.

Victor watched as she walked toward the back of the massive hut. A large wooden chest rested against the wall, its surface decorated with simple carvings worn smooth by time.

She knelt beside it and opened the lid.

After searching through its contents, she pulled out a carefully folded piece of parchment.

The map.

Oheema closed the chest and walked back toward them.

She held the map out to Victor.

Victor accepted it.

"Thank you."

Oheema nodded.

Victor crouched down and placed the map on the ground between them.

He carefully unfolded it, smoothing out the edges until the entire thing was spread across the floor.

Moonlight leaned forward, studying every mark, line, and symbol.

"What does this mean?"

Victor pointed toward one section.

Then another.

He began explaining how the map was organized, showing her how the different symbols corresponded to the surrounding terrain and how to distinguish one type of location from another.

Moonlight followed his finger closely, slowly piecing everything together.

Every time Victor pointed something out, she leaned closer.

Eventually, Victor’s attention settled on one particular region.

The lava rock region.

His eyes narrowed slightly.

Among the markings representing the harsh volcanic terrain was a symbol he recognized.

A lava pool.

Victor stared at it for a moment.

Then he pointed toward the location.

"That’s where I’m going."

Oheema looked at the map.

Then at Victor.

"You’re planning to leave the tribe?"

Victor nodded.

"Yeah. There’s something there I want to check."

Moonlight’s expression immediately fell.

Her lips pushed into a small pout as she looked at Victor.

"You’re leaving?"

Victor glanced toward her.

"I don’t have a choice."

Moonlight didn’t respond.

She simply continued staring at the map, though her attention was clearly no longer on it.

Oheema noticed her reaction but said nothing.

Instead, she looked toward Victor.

"The hut we gave you will remain yours."

Victor looked at her.

He was quiet for a moment.

Oheema nodded.

"It will still be there when you return."

Victor glanced around Oheema’s hut, then looked back at her.

He hadn’t expected the tribe to leave him a place here.

A small smile crossed his face.

"Thank you."

Oheema nodded.

Victor carefully folded the map and held it under his arm.

Moonlight stood beside him.

She still wore the same sad expression.

Victor looked at her and smiled slightly.

"Come on."

Moonlight sighed before following him.

The two of them walked toward the entrance.

Victor gave Oheema one final nod before stepping outside.

Moonlight followed.

The door closed behind them, leaving Oheema alone in the enormous hut.
