Chapter 81: Chapter 81 — Where Is Victor
Chapter 81 — Where Is Victor
Three months had passed since Victor had disappeared in Region G.
During that time, the Alchemy Tower continued as normal.
Despite everything continuing as normal, Victor’s disappearance had not been forgotten by everyone.
A young boy sat alone in a small study on one of the Tower’s upper floors.
The room was modest, with a wooden desk near the window and several shelves lining the walls. Books and a few papers rested neatly across the desk, while pale sunlight streamed through the window and illuminated the room.
The boy sitting behind the desk looked around thirteen years old. His blond hair was neatly kept, framing a remarkably handsome face. His bright blue eyes stared ahead thoughtfully, while his clean yellow robes rested neatly against his body. A sword leaned against the side of his chair.
His name was Zack Brightshield.
The son of the patriarch of the Brightshield family.
One of the three major families within the Alchemy Tower.
At the moment, however, Zack wasn’t thinking about his family.
He was thinking about Victor.
A faint smile appeared on his face.
"Man..."
Zack scratched the back of his head.
"Victor was such a player."
He shook his head slightly.
"Saving that girl in that moment..."
The memory still stood out to him.
Victor had always been strange.
There weren’t many people in the Tower like him.
Zack had only known him for a relatively short time, but somehow, Victor had managed to become someone he genuinely considered a friend.
His thoughts eventually shifted toward the future.
The Tier 1 alchemy class would begin in three months.
Three months ago, Zack had successfully created his first Tier 1 potion, officially qualifying him for the class.
He had already been preparing himself for it.
And he wouldn’t be the only one attending.
Grace Everflow would also be there.
She was the Tower Master’s personal disciple, though there wasn’t much information about her. She was simply known to be exceptionally talented.
Then there was Alex.
Zack’s expression became slightly more complicated at the thought.
Having all three of them in the same class could make the next few months rather interesting.
A knock suddenly came from the door.
Zack looked toward it.
"Come in."
The door opened, and a servant entered carrying a stack of papers.
"Hello, Young Master Zack."
Zack looked toward him.
"Thank you, Carl. I’ve been waiting for those."
Carl walked over and placed the papers on the desk.
"These are the reports you requested concerning Victor Ashcroft."
Zack’s expression immediately became serious.
"Finally."
For the past three months, Zack had been trying to investigate what had happened to Victor.
It hadn’t been easy.
The information available to him simply stated that Victor had disappeared after being assigned to a team exploring Region G.
Beyond that, there had been very little.
Zack had asked questions, but most people either didn’t know anything or weren’t willing to talk about it.
Eventually, however, he found a lead through someone working in the quartermaster’s office.
That lead had allowed him to access information he hadn’t been able to find before.
Zack picked up the first report and began reading.
His eyes moved across the page.
Victor had been reassigned to Basement Level Five.
From there, he had been assigned to Team Fifteen.
Zack’s eyes narrowed.
He continued reading.
According to the records, someone from the Graveborn family had used their connections to have both Victor and Jacob reassigned to Team Fifteen.
But that wasn’t all.
From the paperwork, it appeared that this wasn’t the first time the same people had used their influence to make similar changes.
Zack slowly lowered the paper.
The more he read, the more obvious it became.
The Graveborn family had definitely had a hand in where Victor had ended up.
Zack’s expression hardened.
"Alex..."
He stared at the report.
"What the hell were you thinking?"
He picked up the next page.
The information regarding Team Fifteen was even worse.
The entire team had been wiped out.
Everyone assigned to the team was listed as dead.
But when the Tower eventually sent people to investigate the area, they found something strange.
There were no bodies.
Zack frowned.
He continued reading.
Jacob’s name appeared next.
The report stated that the Tower had checked Jacob’s bracelet.
His status had been terminated.
Jacob was dead.
There was no ambiguity about it.
Zack’s expression became heavier.
Then he found Victor’s name.
He stopped.
Victor’s bracelet was still active.
Zack stared at the words.
Still alive.
Somewhere in Region G, Victor was alive.
But nobody knew where.
Zack leaned back slightly.
That was the strangest part.
If Victor had died alongside the others, his bracelet would have been terminated just like Jacob’s.
But it hadn’t.
Which meant Victor had survived whatever had happened to Team Fifteen.
Somewhere in that enormous region, he was still alive.
And he was apparently alone.
Zack clenched his fist slightly.
Victor had become one of the few people in the Tower that Zack genuinely enjoyed being around.
And now he was somewhere out there with no one from the Tower knowing where he was.
Zack looked down at the report again.
He couldn’t simply go into Region G himself.
Even as the son of the Brightshield patriarch, there were limits to what he could do.
But his father was different.
His father had influence.
Connections.
Resources.
If anyone could put together a team capable of entering Region G and properly scouting the area, it was the Brightshield patriarch.
Zack began thinking through the possibilities.
He would ask his father to assemble a high-level team.
Just a strong group capable of entering the region, searching the area where Team Fifteen had disappeared, and finding out what had actually happened.
Maybe they could find evidence.
Maybe they could discover where Victor had gone.
Maybe they could bring him home.
Zack looked down at the papers one final time.
He knew his father might question why he cared so much about a missing boy.
But Zack didn’t care.
It was worth asking.
He placed the reports together into a neat stack.
"I’ll talk to Father."
Carl remained standing quietly nearby.
Zack looked up.
"You can go."
Carl bowed.
"Yes, Young Master Zack."
The servant turned and left the room.
The door closed behind him.
Silence returned to the study.
Zack leaned back in his chair.
His eyes drifted toward the sword resting beside him.
Three months until the Tier 1 alchemy class.
But before any of that happened, there was something else he needed to do.
Somewhere in Region G, Victor was still alive.
Zack just hoped he could find him before something happened to him.
He looked toward the papers on his desk.
Then he quietly spoke to himself.
"Don’t die before I’m able to find you, you idiot."
