Chapter 99: Chapter 99 — Soul Bond
Chapter 99 — Soul Bond
Five minutes earlier, the female Shadow Fox had been watching Victor.
She sat several feet away from the desk, her back resting against the stone wall as she quietly observed him.
Victor had been standing there for quite some time, reading the strange writing scattered across the desk.
She had no idea what he was doing.
She wouldn’t admit it, but she couldn’t read.
The symbols and words covering the papers meant nothing to her. They might as well have been scratches carved into the wall.
Yet Victor seemed to understand them.
He had been staring at the papers for several minutes, occasionally shifting his gaze from one section to another with an expression of intense concentration.
The Shadow Fox narrowed her eyes.
What is he looking at?
She continued watching him suspiciously.
She still didn’t trust the human.
Eventually, however, her attention drifted away from Victor.
Her eyes settled on the flower resting on the desk.
The Twin Flame Flower.
She had never seen anything like it.
Its petals were an intricate mixture of black and purple, with faint energy continuously swirling around its delicate body. Spiritual Energy danced through the surrounding air, forming a slow, mesmerizing current.
The longer she stared, the harder it became to look away.
Something about the flower drew her in.
It was beautiful.
More beautiful than anything she had ever seen.
Her eyes gradually became unfocused.
She didn’t notice when her body began to move.
The Shadow Fox’s eyes suddenly widened.
Stop.
Her body kept walking.
She tried to force herself backward.
Nothing happened.
She pushed against her own muscles with everything she had.
Still, her body continued forward.
Her hand slowly rose.
Stop!
She screamed inside her mind.
But her body refused to listen.
The flower drew closer.
Then she saw Victor.
His attention had finally left the papers.
He looked up.
His expression immediately changed.
Confusion.
Then alarm.
Victor moved around the desk.
The Shadow Fox tried to speak.
She couldn’t.
Victor began moving faster.
"Don’t touch it!"
His voice echoed through the chamber.
She wanted to stop.
She wanted to turn around.
But her body continued forward.
Her fingers reached the flower.
And touched a petal.
The world changed.
A tremendous surge of energy erupted from the Twin Flame Flower.
Spiritual Energy and Soul Energy exploded outward.
The two forces twisted together into a massive current, spiraling around her body before surging toward her soul.
She could barely comprehend what was happening.
Then she saw Victor.
He had reached the desk.
He stopped.
His eyes had become distant.
His body no longer seemed entirely under his control.
Slowly, he moved toward the flower.
The Shadow Fox watched in confusion as he reached the desk and raised his hand.
His fingers touched another petal.
The moment they did, everything intensified.
Victor’s expression became completely blank.
Almost dazed.
Then the flower began to change.
The Spiritual Energy surrounding it was pulled inward.
Soul Energy became dominant.
A tendril of energy emerged from the flower.
It was unlike anything the Shadow Fox had ever seen.
Black and purple.
Almost alive.
The tendril reached toward Victor’s hand.
It touched him.
Then it entered his body.
Victor’s entire body tensed.
The energy traveled through him, moving deeper and deeper until it reached his inner world.
But it didn’t stop there.
The tendril continued toward the Black Flame.
Then beyond it.
Toward his soul.
Victor could feel it.
Something was attaching itself to him.
It didn’t hurt.
But it was deeply uncomfortable.
It felt as though something foreign had reached into the deepest part of his existence and connected itself to him.
Another tendril split from the flower.
It reached toward the Shadow Fox’s hand.
Then entered her body.
The energy traveled through her inner world before eventually reaching her soul.
She shuddered.
Neither of them could move.
Neither could stop what was happening.
Then the Twin Flame Flower began to burn.
Black and purple flames ignited across its petals.
The flames crawled over every petal without consuming them at first.
The flower seemed to burn from within.
More and more energy poured from it.
The tendrils connecting Victor and the Shadow Fox to the flower grew brighter.
Then the petals began to disappear.
They were being consumed.
The Twin Flame Flower was using itself up.
Victor watched as another petal dissolved into streams of black and purple energy.
The energy flowed directly into him.
The flower continued burning.
Slowly.
Completely.
Until almost nothing remained.
Only two petals were left.
The two petals beneath their hands.
The flames crawled over them.
Then they disappeared as well.
The Twin Flame Flower was gone.
The energy left behind began gathering between Victor and the Shadow Fox.
The two tendrils connecting to their souls remained.
Between them, Spiritual Energy and Soul Energy twisted together, forming a strange fusion of the two forces.
A sphere gradually took shape.
It grew smaller and smaller until it was roughly the size of a golf ball.
The strange sphere hovered between them, connected to both of their souls by black-and-purple tendrils.
Victor could feel something changing.
He couldn’t understand it.
He couldn’t move.
All he could do was watch.
Then the sphere stopped moving.
Silence.
For a moment, nothing happened.
Then the energy moved again.
Victor’s body finally began responding.
His arm slowly lifted.
The Shadow Fox’s arm rose as well.
Neither controlled the movement.
Their hands moved toward one another.
The sphere remained suspended between their palms.
Slowly, their hands approached.
Until their palms met around the sphere.
The Shadow Fox’s eyes widened.
Their bodies were now almost touching.
Only a centimeter separated them.
She could see Victor’s face clearly.
She could even see the faint mist of his breath in the cold air.
Her heart raced.
No.
She didn’t want to be this close to a human.
Then a horrible thought crossed her mind.
Was this his plan?
Had he somehow brought her here intentionally?
Had he known what the flower would do?
Her anger surged.
She tried to pull away.
Nothing.
The sphere suddenly disappeared.
The energy between their hands vanished.
The connection was complete.
And then came the final step.
Their bodies moved.
The Shadow Fox’s arms slowly wrapped around Victor.
Victor’s arms wrapped around her.
They hugged.
The Shadow Fox’s eyes widened in absolute disbelief.
What is happening?!
She struggled.
She pushed against him.
She tried to separate.
Her muscles strained as she poured every bit of strength she could muster into breaking free.
She couldn’t.
For nearly two minutes, they remained locked together.
The Shadow Fox screamed inside her mind.
She vowed that if she survived this, she would kill the human for daring to touch her like this.
But her body refused to listen.
Eventually, the energy holding them together began to fade.
Their strength disappeared with it.
The Shadow Fox’s legs finally gave out.
Victor collapsed at the same time.
They fell onto the stone floor side by side.
The Shadow Fox’s head landed against Victor’s chest.
Neither moved.
Their eyes closed.
They had both passed out.
But even in unconsciousness, something continued.
The connection between their souls remained.
Neither understood what the Twin Flame Flower had truly done.
They could only lie there in silence...
As memories belonging to one another slowly began to intertwine.
