Blessed By A Yandere Goddess

Chapter 67: An Elven Prince...?

When night fell, the three of them returned to continue their exploration. Once again, Anastasia led the way.

But this time, they had new company. Sarael had managed to tame the foxes from before, and the four of them followed closely behind Anastasia as she kept drifting farther from the actual path to Frostheim.

Ronan wasn’t sure they would even reach the city by then.

GodBound: I need you to do some research for me.

Zero: What the hell? Your account says you’re in the middle of nowhere in the Frontier!?

GodBound: I’ll explain later. For now, I need you to look up three hunters who recently went on a job in the Frontier, something involving water, basically.

Zero: You do know privacy is literally the selling point of our business, right?

GodBound: I’ll pay you.

Zero: ...Fine, I’ll see what I can find.

Two bottles of mysterious water. Yet he had no idea what they did, and selling them just as Alexander suggested definitely seemed like a waste.

He needed information. If this water turned out to give someone literal god-like powers, he’d rather not sell it to some random rich billionaire looking for eccentric water.

"Up ahead."

Anastasia stopped and raised an arm at the scene ahead of them.

It was an army of snow elves fighting a smaller but far stronger group of trolls. And they were losing, the three ten-foot monsters were taking out two with every swing.

"Fall back!"

The snow elf with a plumed helmet shouted. Badly injured, his glacial blue armor was cracked, and his left sleeve was gone, as if it had been shattered by one of the trolls’ swings.

"That’s your cue, help them."

Ronan said, already drawing his sword, and Anastasia nodded before charging in first without hesitation.

BANG!

The gunshot rang out, hitting one of the trolls directly in the eye mid-swing and giving the snow elf in front of it the advantage to strike quickly and slash its wrist at close range.

"A human!?"

BANG!

BANG!

"Don’t get distracted!"

Anastasia yelled, firing more shots at the blinded troll. She aimed at its remaining eye, then sent another shot into its mouth, the bullet easily piercing its soft inner tissue.

Something Ronan had taught her long before they had entered the Frontier.

A beast’s outer skin might be tough, but that didn’t always mean the inside was just as durable.

"Everyone! Switch strategy, give the human a clear line of sight!"

The elves obeyed their leader. The snow elves moved in unison, stopping their direct assault on the troll and falling back toward Anastasia, who was already waiting with her gun ready.

BANG!

Another troll went down, and it didn’t take long for the rest to follow. Trolls were difficult, but with the right weapon, they were just like any other beast.

And Anastasia’s gun was perfect for that.

The problem was the elves themselves. None of them were armed to actually take out a troll. Not even a single archer or mage who could target weak spots was present.

"Thank you."

The snow elf leader took off his helmet, revealing long white hair and pale blue skin that matched his eyes. As expected of elves, he was absolutely beautiful.

"I’m guessing you didn’t expect to find trolls here?"

Ronan approached, with Sarael beside her and the foxes at her side.

"The human who didn’t help."

The snow elf scowled visibly. Whatever Ronan’s reasons, the fact that he had only Anastasia help in the fighting was enough to leave a bitter taste in his mouth.

"Answer the question."

"No, we did."

Ronan raised a brow at the nonsensical answer. If they were expecting trolls, then why were they so underprepared?

The snow elf leader’s scowl deepened at Ronan’s expression, but he continued anyway.

"I know that look, and I don’t blame you."

He glanced back at his soldiers. Several were injured, and at least five bodies lay motionless in the snow, their glacial armor shattered beyond repair.

"If you hadn’t shown up when you did, we’d all be dead. For that, you have my gratitude. Even if your companion did all the work while you watched."

"He was letting me get experience."

Anastasia cut in, still catching her breath.

"I’m his student."

The snow elf leader looked her up and down, then glanced at Ronan with a slightly less hostile expression.

"A teacher who lets his student handle trolls alone. Either you’re very confident in her abilities, or very foolish."

"A bit of both. You said someone fed you bad information. Any idea who?"

The leader’s jaw tightened.

"That’s internal elven politics. Not something I should discuss with outsiders. But..."

The elven leader glanced back at his destroyed battalion, sheer, utter rage filling the snow elf’s face at the sight. Whatever internal elven politics were at play, it definitely wasn’t good.

"It’s information I’d definitely share with a mercenary."

"What?"

"I have a job. And I’m too desperate to spend time finding more reputable mercenaries."

The snow elf leader’s grip tightened on his helmet, his pale blue eyes fixed on the bodies of his fallen soldiers. When he spoke again, his voice was lower, meant only for the three of them.

"Join my camp and return to Frostheim. I want you to find out what’s going on."

"Just like that...?"

"You’re not the first. I’ve already hired a hundred hunters; you’re just another to add to that number."

Desperate wasn’t wrong. He had only just met them, and he was already hiring the three of them to investigate an absurd, national-level conspiracy.

But after already being wanted by the association, being wanted by another nation was not on his bucket list. He was here to give Anastasia hunting experience, not get dragged into national subterfuge.

"I refuse—"

THWACK!

Anastasia kicked Ronan in the back of the knee, cutting him off.

"Ronan, you idiot, don’t you recognize him?"

She grabbed Ronan by the collar and dragged him down so she could whisper in his ear.

"That’s the third prince!"
