"Okay."
She whispered to her reflection.
"Okay. It’s time."
Her reflection stared back at her, heart-shaped pupils glowing faintly, and for a moment she saw herself the way Ronan might see her. Not a goddess, but just a woman who had spent weeks preparing a gift for the man she loved.
The thought made her shadows tremble.
"No more wasting time, Sarael. Any more and I might accidentally destroy Ronan’s new grandfather’s mansion~"

Ronan eventually got up from scrolling on his phone and summoned Sebastian into his room, where the two of them sparred hand-to-hand.
After scrolling through what seemed to be hundreds of videos, he finally snapped out of it and decided to train.
He had a wife, for goddess’s sake. He couldn’t just stay in bed and rot. Especially when he literally had a pocket sparring partner he could summon with a whim.
"You’ve gotten faster, master."
Sebastian said, blocking one of Ronan’s punches to the head and returning the favor with a knee to the stomach, which Ronan redirected to the side.
THWACH!
THWACH!
"Of course. I’ve been doing nothing but fight and train for weeks."
Ronan replied, the exchange reminding him of his first summon. Especially the thought he’d had back then. From obedient monsters to fully sentient shadows that could literally blend in as humans.
Ronan definitely wanted a second one, but Sarael had apparently forbidden it.
She said he should wait for her gift before spending his evolution point.
"Ronan."
Sarael’s voice echoed from the other room. The slight distraction allowed Sebastian to land a decisive hit on Ronan’s chest before disappearing back into the shadows at Ronan’s whim.
"Y-Yeah...?"
He clutched his chest, feeling the surprising power behind Sebastian’s strike. Two hundred percent really was two hundred percent.
If Sebastian was that powerful, he couldn’t even imagine how powerful the flesh golem would be. The thought of it one-shotting an S-Rank wasn’t even ridiculous.
He’d definitely seen S-Ranks get squished by some during his time back in Tartarus.
"I-I think the gift’s ready."
Sarael said, peeking her head around the open door, the rest of her body completely hidden by the wall.
"So, uhmm... can you come here to the living room for a bit? To see the gift?"
Ronan smiled at her tone. It was surprisingly different, and if he had to guess, very much Anastasia’s tone.
"Yeah, sure."
He crossed the hallway to the living room, running a hand through his hair to shake out the sweat from sparring. Not much he could do about the workout clothes, but Sarael had seen him in worse states.
Half-dead in a shrine, for one.
"What?"
The living room was more normal than he had expected. The lights were on, the television was tuned to a reality show, and dinner sizzled on the stove.
It was the stereotypical 7:00 p.m. scene people dreamed of when they imagined success.
"Welcome home, Ronan? How was work?"
Sarael said, as if Ronan literally wasn’t home the entire day. And Ronan knew what was going on.
All those hours talking to Anastasia, the two of them heading to the city together, and all her suspicious behavior had led to this one moment.
An actual normal night. Well, normal, with a very unrealistically clingy wife. But Ronan found it far better than anything realistic.
"Well... it was fine?"
Ronan replied, trying to get into the role Sarael clearly wanted him to play. Then he slapped himself lightly on the cheek.
She had spent literal weeks on this gift. He couldn’t just half-ass it. Besides, it seemed enjoyable to play along anyway.
"Yeah, it was fine. Just a few more days, and I think I could finally get the promotion I was talking about."
Sarael beamed at Ronan’s enthusiastic response. It was exactly the response she had been waiting for.
"Really!? That’s so good to hear. I knew you could do it!"
She rushed toward Ronan, hugging him tightly before pulling back.
With a flick of her shadow magic, she created a fake tie and polo shirt on him, and she pretended to undress him, as though he had actually just come back from work.
Sarael’s hands moved with practiced precision, her fingers deftly loosening the shadow-made tie and slipping it from around his neck. The polo shirt followed, dissolving back into darkness the moment she pulled it over his head.
"You must be exhausted..."
She said, her voice soft and warm in an almost unrecognizable way.
"Sitting in that office all day, dealing with those terrible coworkers..."
Ronan bit back a laugh.
"Right. The coworkers. The ones who keep stealing my lunch from the break room."
"Yes! Those ones."
Sarael’s eyes lit up.
"I knew you’d understand."
She took his hand and led him toward the dining table, where two plates had been set out with the kind of precision that suggested hours of preparation.
The food wasn’t fancy; grilled meat, rice, vegetables arranged in neat portions, but it was real. She’d cooked it herself.
Ronan could tell because it was the same dish he had seen Sarael and Anastasia practice on John’s kitchen very late at night when the two thought he was asleep.
"I made all your favorites."
All of it was in the dishes Ronan had lingered on while scrolling through his phone, both from the shack and from their more luxurious current home.
Sarael had been at it longer than he’d thought.

"Eat up, Ronan. Don’t forget we still have our late-night date at the park."
"Of course. How could I forget our plans? But let me clean up first. I’m a bit of a mess after a long day of work."
Sarael’s ears twitched at the mention of cleaning up.
"Of course, I already have the bath prepared. I’ll help you inside~"
For now, Sarael’s first phase of her gift had been an incredible success.
