Blind Box World - SSS-Rank Eye of Truth
Chapter 78: The necromancer puppetThe skeleton in the black robe slowly sat up.
Gold-rank tier 7 energy surged violently, shaking the entire workshop. The two green flames in its eye sockets swept across everyone present, carrying the cold pressure of a being that had once stood at a far higher level.
Ethan opened the Eye of Truth.
Lines of information appeared, but most were obscured by a layer of black mist.
[Name: Cannot be identified.]
[True identity: Cannot be analyzed.]
[Current classification: Puppet, Necromancer.]
[Quality: Legendary.]
[Current level: Gold-rank tier 7.]
[Peak level while alive: King.]
[Status: Multiple layers of seals.]
[Soul condition: Only a fragment and an obsession remain.]
[Core information concealed by an unidentified force.]
[Warning: The current Eye of Truth lacks the ability to see through a King-level obsession.]
Ethan immediately pulled back his ability.
His eye sockets ached slightly, but there was no serious backlash.
Owin looked at the skeleton, his voice slower than before.
"When he was alive, he was a King-level Necromancer. He once had the chance to break through to Emperor, but at the moment of his breakthrough, someone intervened."
Ruo Yan asked, "Who?"
"I don’t know."
Owin shook his head.
"Or more precisely, the portion of memory containing that person’s identity had been erased before he found me. Even he only retained a single obsession: to destroy whoever harmed him."
He looked at the black crystal in the skeleton’s ribcage.
"He knew he couldn’t survive. So he entrusted his body and the remaining fragment of his soul to me. I used a Puppet Core to preserve his body, turning him into a puppet capable of continuing to fight."
Ruo Yan looked at the flames in the skeleton’s eye sockets.
"Is he still conscious?"
"Not fully." Owin answered. "He retains only combat instinct, some scattered memories, and his obsession for revenge. He can obey commands and react on his own in battle, but he’s no longer the person he once was."
Ethan asked, "How do you fully unseal him?"
"Destroy his enemy."
Owin looked straight at Ruo Yan.
"When the obsession is fulfilled, the final soul fragment will vanish. The Puppet Core will absorb all remaining power, and the body will evolve into a complete weapon."
Ruo Yan asked, "What if we can’t find whoever it was?"
"Then he’ll remain sealed in his current state forever."
Owin reached his mechanical hand out and touched the crystal in the skeleton’s chest.
"Even so, Gold-rank tier 7 with Legendary quality is still more than worthy of being the first puppet in your inheritance."
Outside the barrier, the moment Brakk heard the word Legendary, his eyes shifted immediately. Quite a few others unconsciously stepped forward as well, but the energy barrier flared bright and forced them all to stop.
Aldren kept smiling.
But the hand hidden inside his cloak had clenched tight.
Owin looked at Ruo Yan. "Step forward. Place your hand on the Puppet Core."
Ruo Yan walked up to the coffin.
But when her hand was less than half a meter from the black crystal, the green flames in the skeleton’s eye sockets suddenly flared violently.
Boom!
A wave of cold force pushed her back.
Ruo Yan’s expression shifted slightly.
Owin wasn’t surprised. "Your soul just established an anchor point. It’s not yet stable enough to withstand a King-level Puppet Core on its own."
Ruo Yan looked at Ethan.
Owin continued. "The soul anchor point must help you complete the reception process. Both of you take hold of the core together. Primary ownership still goes to the Puppeteer. The Awakened only serves to stabilize the bond."
Ethan stepped up beside Ruo Yan.
She looked at him and asked quietly, "Can you still handle it?"
"I just need to touch a crystal. At least this is easier than spatial wind."
Ruo Yan frowned. "Stop pretending it doesn’t hurt."
Ethan looked at her. "We just bonded and you’re already managing me?"
"I just don’t want my anchor point dying too soon."
"Then we share the same goal."
Ruo Yan let out a soft huff, but the corner of her lips curved up slightly.
Ethan took her hand with his right.
The Soul Thread between them lit up at once.
Together, they placed their hands on the black crystal.
Boom!
Cold necromantic energy flooded into Ruo Yan’s body. Her face went pale instantly, but Ethan gripped her hand tight and used his Heavenly Gate to keep the energy flow from shattering the bond.
Silver-white threads spread outward from their joined hands, winding around the Puppet Core.
Notifications streamed in one after another.
[Inheritance item detected.]
[Puppet: Necromancer.]
[Quality: Legendary.]
[Level: Gold-rank tier 7.]
[Establishing ownership.]
[Primary owner: Ruo Yan.]
[Soul anchor point: Ethan Ashford.]
[Inscribing Puppet Core.]
[Complete.]
The flames in the skeleton’s eye sockets immediately shrank.
It slowly stepped out of the coffin, stood before Ruo Yan, and knelt on one knee.
The broken staff was laid across in front of it.
A stream of information flowed directly into Ruo Yan’s consciousness.
[Puppet: Necromancer.]
[Current abilities:]
[Skeleton Summoning.]
[Soul Flame.]
[Bone Shield.]
[Basic Dark Magic.]
[Undead Summoning.]
[Corpse Conversion: Can transform enemy corpses into undead creatures.]
[Most King-level abilities are currently sealed.]
Ruo Yan looked at the puppet kneeling before her.
Her three old wooden puppets standing outside the barrier bowed their heads in unison, as if welcoming a new member.
Owin watched the scene, his projection beginning to flicker.
"The inheritance is complete. The workshop, the method for creating Puppet Cores, and a portion of my records have been stored inside the puppet’s core. When you’re strong enough, the next contents will unlock automatically."
Ruo Yan asked, "What about you?"
"I’m just a recording." Owin looked around the workshop. "My final task is done. I have no reason to continue existing."
His projection began dissolving into particles of light.
Before disappearing, Owin looked at Ethan.
"You have very special eyes."
Ethan didn’t respond.
Owin gave a quiet laugh. "Don’t worry. A recording about to vanish has no need to know your secrets. But remember: what sees too much will sometimes be seen in return."
Ethan’s gaze darkened slightly.
Owin said nothing more.
His projection dissolved completely.
The energy barrier around the pedestal slowly faded as well.
Brakk immediately moved forward, but the Necromancer puppet had already risen, the green flames in its eye sockets locking onto him.
A Bone Shield instantly formed in front of Ruo Yan.
Brakk stopped in his tracks.
Ruo Yan looked at him, her voice as cold and flat as ever.
"Want to test my new puppet?"
Brakk eyed the Gold-rank tier 7 energy, then slowly lowered his war axe.
"I just wanted to check whether the inheritance was finished."
"Now you’ve checked."
The air between them grew tense.
Aldren immediately stepped forward with a smile. "This is Ruo Yan’s inheritance. No one has any reason to contest it. We should focus on finding the way out of the labyrinth."
He sounded perfectly fair.
But Ethan noticed the energy mark behind his own cloak had just pulsed.
Aldren was agitated.
Not because he truly wanted to seize the puppet right now.
He was waiting for a better opportunity.
Ethan pulled his gaze back.
Right then, the Eye of Truth suddenly picked up a very faint fluctuation behind the coffin.
He turned his head.
The wall there was completely solid, with no gaps or doors. Even ordinary energy sense couldn’t detect anything.
But through Ethan’s eyes, a razor-thin purple-silver line was running straight through the wall.
He focused.
Faint lines of information slowly appeared.
[Dead path.]
[Survival rate by conventional methods: 0%.]
[Does not belong to the main inheritance.]
[Hidden behind: Cannot be fully analyzed.]
[Detected: Structure forged from three thousand Thunder-Iron Feathers.]
[Designation: Thunder Wings.]
Ethan studied the wall for a few more seconds, then silently closed the Eye of Truth.
He didn’t tell anyone.
Including Aldren, who stood not far away.
Because Ruo Yan’s true inheritance had already concluded.
But the thing Ethan had been searching for since he first stepped into this world had only just appeared.
