Blind Box World - SSS-Rank Eye of Truth
Chapter 92: Cataclysmic Thunder GateThe darkness was torn apart, revealing a rift that shook without pause. Through the gap, Ethan could see the metal walls of the ruin outside.
"Go."
He opened the Thunder Wings.
Fifteen hundred Thunder-Iron Feathers poured out of the Primordial Armor and assembled into the purple-silver wing behind his left shoulder. The light on the wing was far weaker than before, but still enough to lift his body off the ground.
Laira also spread her wings.
The left wing, rebuilt with Thunder-Iron, trailed sparks of red-purple fire. She immediately wrapped her arm around Ruo Yan’s waist and lifted her off the ground.
Ruo Yan stiffened.
"I can walk on my own."
"The rift is closing."
Laira gave her no chance to argue.
On the other side, Ethan directed over a hundred feathers to detach from the wing and wrap around the Necromancer’s torso and both arms.
Bolts of lightning linked the feathers into a mesh, hoisting the puppet’s heavy body into the air.
"Hold tight."
The Necromancer didn’t answer. It only gripped the broken staff in its hand.
The space behind them began to cave in.
Storage racks that hadn’t been retrieved in time were dragged into the darkness and crushed. Hundreds of data fragments turned into chaotic streaks of light that swept past the three of them.
Laira beat her wings first.
She carried Ruo Yan and shot straight toward the rift.
Ethan flew close behind, using the Thunder Wings to tow the Necromancer. Bolts of electricity kept exploding around the wing as spatial forces tried to pull them back.
The rift was shrinking.
Laira angled her wing and slipped through the first gap.
The moment she and Ruo Yan cleared the other side, the edge of the collapsing space grazed the tip of her dragon tail, shearing off a few strands of red hair trailing behind her.
Ethan accelerated.
The Thunder Wings flared bright and drove him and the Necromancer through the fissure in the final instant.
Boom!
The rift snapped shut behind them.
The shockwave from the collapsing space slammed into Ethan’s body. He was hurled away from the metal wall and fell into a wide corridor.
But before he hit the ground, Laira had already flown over to catch his shoulder.
"You okay?"
"Not dead."
Ethan looked behind him.
The Necromancer dropped onto the stone floor, its legs cracking small fissures into the surface, but its body sustained no further damage.
Ruo Yan was set down beside it by Laira. She immediately checked the inheritance mark, confirmed the items she had just stored were still intact, and only then let out a breath.
The space around them continued to shudder.
The outer ruin was collapsing too.
Metal walls cracked apart, and large chunks of stone kept falling from the corridor ceiling. The light running through the energy conduits flickered and went out one by one.
Ethan raised his head and looked ahead.
Wind blowing through the corridor carried the scent of outside air.
"The exit is close."
Laira spread her wings and pulled Ruo Yan back in.
Ethan also used the Thunder Wings to lift the Necromancer. Both of them immediately flew along the collapsing corridor.
No more chaotic gravity.
No more retrieval puppets blocking the way.
The walls that had once cost them so much time to cross were now disintegrating section by section, revealing a nearly straight path toward the exit.
After just a few minutes, natural light appeared ahead.
Ethan and Laira flew out of the corridor and into a massive hall connected to the ruin’s main gate.
They immediately spotted the ones who had escaped the Owin space before them.
Elves.
Beastkin.
And a handful of creatures from the smaller races.
Most were heavily wounded. Some were supporting comrades, the rest carrying corpses or spoils, slowly retreating through the enormous stone doors at the far end of the hall.
Korr and the Stoneweavers were no longer there.
They had probably left the ruin already.
The remaining survivors had only wanted to get out as fast as possible, but the sound of lightning from the Thunder Wings made every one of them turn around.
The older Elf saw Ethan flying overhead.
His expression changed at once.
"He’s still alive!"
Everyone around him stopped in their tracks.
Their eyes swept over Laira, Ruo Yan, and the Necromancer. No one knew where the four of them had gone after the vortex swallowed them.
But they understood one thing.
Ethan was still heading for the door.
The older Elf looked at the ruin collapsing behind him, then at the Thunder Wings flickering unsteadily.
A decision was made instantly.
"Block the gate!"
Every Elf still able to fight turned back at once.
Magical vines sprouted from the stone floor and coiled around both doors. The rest took energy crystals and slotted them into the array grooves, forcibly activating the ruin’s gate-closing mechanism.
The Beastkin group understood the intent as well.
They threw their weight against the stone doors while piling puppet corpses and large boulders into the gap.
A four-winged creature hesitated.
"They’ll die inside too."
The older Elf answered coldly.
"That’s exactly why we close it."
"If he doesn’t die, the ones who die later will be us and our clans."
The stone doors slowly pressed together.
The gap leading outside shrank bit by bit.
Laira accelerated.
But she was carrying Ruo Yan and had been fighting for hours. The Thunder Flame around her wing had dwindled to faint sparks.
Ethan tried to push the full Thunder Wings, but the Primordial Armor immediately sent back a warning.
[Energy remaining: 7%.]
[Insufficient conditions for long-range lightning teleportation.]
[Continued forced use may cause temporary loss of Thunder Wings control.]
Behind them, the corridor continued to collapse.
Ahead, the doors had less than ten meters of gap left.
The older Elf stood on the outside, staring straight at Ethan through the closing gap.
There was no greed left in his eyes.
Only the absolute determination to bury Ethan along with the entire ruin.
"Seal it!"
The arrays lit up in unison.
The doors accelerated.
Right at that moment, the Blind Box stored inside the Primordial Armor suddenly shook violently.
Ethan faltered.
An unfamiliar frequency pierced through his left arm and transmitted straight into the Eye of Truth.
Without him activating it, the world before his eyes instantly went dark.
The sounds of the collapsing ruin vanished.
Laira, Ruo Yan, and those blocking the gate all dissolved from his vision.
When Ethan opened his eyes again, he was standing in a space of absolute black.
No ground around him.
No sky.
Only countless points of light drifting through the darkness.
Each point of light was a Blind Box.
Some were wreathed in flame.
Some sat inside a block of transparent ice.
Some looked like enormous eggs, and others were just shapeless clusters of light.
Ethan understood this was the reward pool inside the box Owin had left behind.
The Eye of Truth swept over the nearest Blind Boxes.
[Equipment.]
[Skill.]
[Partner.]
[Innate Talent.]
[Special Item.]
Every one of them carried a stronger frequency than any Blind Box he had ever seen at Aurora Academy.
But before Ethan could examine them more closely, something very far away suddenly trembled.
It didn’t wait for Ethan to choose.
It didn’t sit still in the darkness like the other Blind Boxes.
It came straight for him.
The surrounding points of light were shoved aside. Dark purple lightning spilled outward, carving a path through the space.
What was approaching didn’t have the shape of a box.
It looked like a gate.
Two massive black pillars stood in parallel, their surfaces carved with lightning patterns. Between them was a region of darkness that continuously emitted deep, heavy peals of thunder.
The Eye of Truth stung sharply.
Information appeared.
[Cataclysmic Thunder Gate.]
[Type: Active skill.]
[Rarity: Mythical.]
[Description: Absorbs a massive amount of surrounding energy to open the Thunder Gate. Once activated, the Thunder Gate will discharge lightning, annihilating all targets within a large area.]
[The higher the user’s level, the greater the range and power of the lightning.]
[After use, the Cataclysmic Thunder Gate will enter a deep dormancy state.]
[Reactivation condition: Absorb sufficient energy crystals.]
Another line of information slowly appeared.
[Compatibility with Thunder Wings: Extremely high.]
[Detected: Massive collapsing spatial energy source outside.]
[First activation conditions met.]
Ethan looked at the gate standing before him.
The Thunder Wings let him control, guide, and disperse lightning.
The Cataclysmic Thunder Gate could absorb surrounding energy and release a devastating attack covering a wide area.
The two were practically born to work together.
Outside, he was running on empty.
But the entire ruin held a colossal amount of energy spiraling out of control from the collapse.
Ethan reached toward the gate.
Dark purple lightning immediately crawled along his fingers, then connected to the patterns on the Primordial Armor.
The corner of his mouth curved up slightly.
"Then I choose you."
His fingertip touched the surface of the Thunder Gate.
The entire Blind Box space erupted in light.
Every remaining point of light vanished at once. Only the massive gate remained, transforming into countless bolts of lightning that surged into Ethan’s body.
His vision returned.
The stone doors ahead had only one final sliver of gap left.
The older Elf stood outside, both hands still on the array, relief already showing on his face.
Then the entire ruin shook.
Not from the collapse.
A tremendous pull appeared behind Ethan.
The chaotic energy in the walls, the floor, the arrays, and the shattered pockets of space was all drawn toward him at once.
The Thunder Wings behind his back spread open on their own.
Fifteen hundred Thunder-Iron Feathers trembled, ringing out with metallic echoes that filled the great hall.
Those blocking the gate looked up.
The relief on their faces drained away.
Behind Ethan, two massive black pillars slowly pushed through from another plane.
The lightning patterns across their surfaces lit up one by one.
A deep roll of thunder echoed from the darkness between the pillars, shaking the entire hall.
The Cataclysmic Thunder Gate had appeared.
