Chapter 445: Pneumatic Wardrobe
The living room had successfully repelled the invasion of recreational activity, reverting flawlessly to a state of absolute, unbreakable peace.
Jennifer tapped her fingernail rhythmically against the glass screen of the Vanguard tactical tablet. "I’m telling you all, the text-to-video generator is getting entirely too literal. It lacks nuance."
"What did you force the machine to render this time, Jen?" Courteney asked, not bothering to lift her head from the pillows.
"I just wanted a simple, high-end fashion runway," Jennifer complained, projecting her generated footage onto the massive television screen at the edge of the patio. "I prompted it for peak, effortless elegance."
The digital model stomped down the virtual runway. She was glaring fiercely at the camera, but her outfit was entirely dominated by an enormous, heavily embroidered ceremonial sash draped diagonally across her chest.
"Why is she wearing that?" Angelina laughed, pointing a lazy finger at the screen. "It looks like she just won a debate tournament at USU."
"It is absolutely not from USU," Jennifer shot back defensively, attempting to salvage her directorial vision. "I prompted the machine for ’regal accessories.’ The algorithm apparently calculated that a thick velvet sash is the absolute peak of human achievement."
Alex stared flatly at the television. "The sash is acceptable. It provides an extra layer of thermal insulation across the sternum without requiring the restriction of actual sleeves. It is a highly efficient garment. However, her neck is a biological disaster."
Gillian squinted at the screen, thoroughly confused. "Her neck?"
"She has visible neck lines," Alex pointed out, his tone utterly serious. "Neck lines are the physical manifestation of looking downward. Looking downward implies shame, regret, or worse, checking your shoes to ensure your laces are tied. All of which are complete failures of confidence. Jen, instruct the algorithm to eliminate the lines on her neck only. Do not touch the sash. The sash stays."
Jennifer giggled, quickly typing the correction into the interface. The model’s neck instantly blurred into a smooth, flawless cylinder of digital perfection, while the heavy ceremonial sash remained draped proudly over her shoulder.
"There," Alex murmured approvingly. "She has achieved optimal cervical posture."
Before the Council could further critique the AI’s questionable fashion sense, the hallway doors hissed open.
Snoop Dogg and Keanu Reeves strolled into the room. However, their appearance instantly brought the entire room to a stunned, breathless halt.
They were wearing wildly mismatched, bizarrely layered outfits that defied all laws of color theory and common sense. Snoop was sporting a heavy velvet winter cape layered directly over a hockey jersey, while Keanu was engulfed in a massive, neon-yellow inflatable parka that made him look like a highly philosophical marshmallow.
"What happened to you two?" Monica asked, breaking into a fit of laughter. "Did you lose a bet?"
"We found the automated dressing chamber," Keanu whispered, his voice filled with profound, zen-like wonder. "Buttoning a shirt requires complex finger dexterity, Monica. Zippers demand downward pulling force. The friction of getting dressed manually is an exhausting way to start the day."
"So you let a robot shoot clothes at you?" Gillian smirked, propping herself up on her elbows.
"It’s a pneumatic styling tunnel," Snoop corrected, looking down at his cape with genuine admiration. "You just stand at the end of the hallway, hold your arms out, and the air vents literally blow the garments perfectly onto your limbs. I didn’t even lift my chin to tie this cape. The wind tied it for me. Zero calories burned."
Angelina immediately snatched the tablet from Jennifer’s hands. A wicked, highly competitive smile spread across her face. "You mean to tell me the pneumatic dressing system is linked to this network?"
"Don’t do it, Angie," Alex warned slowly, recognizing the dangerous glint in her eyes.
"Gillian, prepare yourself," Angelina purred, ignoring him completely. "We are going to play dress-up. And the CEO is our mannequin."
Gillian’s eyes lit up with predatory joy. She scooted closer, looking over Angelina’s shoulder at the control panel. "I’ll take the first layer. Vanguard, deploy a neon pink faux-fur poncho directly to the central seating coordinates."
A soft mechanical whir echoed from the ceiling directly above Alex. A hidden ventilation panel slid silently open.
With a sharp thwip, a massive, shockingly bright pink faux-fur poncho shot downward, landing flawlessly over Alex’s head and draping heavily over his shoulders.
Mariah shrieked with laughter, clapping her hands. "He looks like a giant piece of cotton candy!"
Alex did not move a single muscle. He did not attempt to pull the neon fur away from his face. "Neon pink is a visual assault. It reflects ambient light and aggressively disrupts the dimness of the room."
"My turn," Angelina laughed, typing furiously on the glass. "Deploy a vintage, highly starched Elizabethan collar."
Thwip.
A thick, ridiculous white ruffled collar blasted from the ceiling vent, snapping perfectly around Alex’s neck, right above the pink fur.
"Angie," Alex reasoned logically, his voice muffled slightly by the dense ruffles. "Starch is incredibly abrasive. It scratches the jawline. Furthermore, dressing me like a sixteenth-century monarch implies I have royal duties to attend to. I refuse to govern."
"You don’t have to govern, darling, you just have to look pretty for us," Gillian teased, preparing her next prompt. "Deploy... a woven sombrero."
Thwip.
A massive, wide-brimmed straw hat landed squarely on his head, tilting slightly forward.
"A sombrero provides excellent shade," Alex conceded, his voice echoing gently under the massive brim. "I will accept the hat. It reduces the need to close my eyes. But the synthetic fur is elevating my core temperature to extremely uncomfortable levels."
"Take it off, then," Jennifer challenged, leaning over him with a massive, victorious grin.
"Taking it off requires lifting my arms," Alex stated, his tone deadpan and completely unbothered. "It requires untangling my head from a ruffled collar and pushing a heavy hat off my forehead. The caloric expenditure of undressing far outweighs the discomfort of the thermal insulation. I will simply remain here, dressed like a confused tourist, until the fabric disintegrates."
Snoop nodded slowly, his face a mask of profound respect. "That is the mindset of a true champion, King. You out-stubborned the wardrobe."
"Exactly," Alex murmured from beneath the sombrero. "I have weaponized your prank against you. By refusing to move, I am now completely immune to further fashion."
Angelina and Gillian exchanged a look of pure, defeated amusement. They had tried to generate chaos, and the Slacker King had simply absorbed it, refusing to lift a single finger to correct his ridiculous predicament. The room filled with warm, chaotic laughter as Alex lay perfectly still, a monument to the absolute triumph of doing nothing at all.
