Blood on the Canvas, Gold on the Screen

Chapter 499: The Ballistic Botanical Golf Course

Chapter 497: The Ballistic Botanical Golf Course

The absolute weightlessness of the subterranean IMAX experience had effectively melted the last remaining traces of mainland anxiety from the Harem Council. By the time the morning of the fifth day dawned over the private Pacific atoll, the women had fully acclimated to the unyielding, frictionless rhythm of their tropical isolation.

The sprawling, open-air teakwood deck of the main pavilion was bathed in soft, golden sunlight. The ocean breeze carried the faint, sweet scent of crushed coconut and wild orchids.

Alex Turner lay perfectly supine on a massive, suspended woven-silk daybed, swathed in a loose, breathable slate-grey bamboo-fiber tunic and matching trousers. His fathomless midnight gaze was lazily fixed on the horizon, entirely unbothered by the sheer majesty of the landscape.

The morning peace was interrupted not by an alarm or a ringing phone, but by a shadow silently eclipsing the turquoise waters of the lagoon.

"Is that a boat?" Courteney Cox asked, lowering her mimosa and squinting toward the coral reef.

"It doesn’t have a wake," Angelina Jolie noted, pushing her dark sunglasses up her nose. She was draped in a sheer, pearl-colored resort wrap, her sharp eyes tracking the incoming vessel. "And it isn’t making any sound."

Gliding a mere two feet above the gentle ocean swells was a massive, completely flat hover-barge. It possessed no visible engines, no sails, and no exhaust. It operated on a silent, magnetic-repulsion drive, moving with the smooth, glacial inevitability of a creeping shadow.

The hover-barge docked seamlessly against the pavilion’s acrylic causeway.

Snoop Dogg and Keanu Reeves strolled off the floating platform. They were a vision of absolute, unadulterated leisure. Snoop was wearing an oversized, violently floral silk robe that dragged slightly against the floorboards, holding a chilled crystal tumbler of cucumber water. Keanu walked beside him, his hands tucked deeply into the pockets of a lightweight, bone-white linen suit, his expression radiating profound, philosophical stasis.

"Nephew," Snoop drawled smoothly, a fragrant cloud of blue smoke trailing behind him as he approached the daybed. "The magnetic sea-glider is a masterpiece. We didn’t even feel the tide. The Vanguard boys said you had some new recreational facilities open up on the east side of the jungle."

"You two crossed the ocean on a silent floating mattress just to play sports?" Salma Hayek asked, her hands resting on her hips as she surveyed the two newest arrivals. "I thought you all considered physical activity to be an aesthetic failure."

"Traditional sports are a tragedy, Salma," Keanu whispered reverently, sitting down gracefully on a nearby plush ottoman. "But we heard the Sovereign of Sloth has revolutionized the links. We came for a round of golf."

Jennifer Aniston let out a bright, breathless laugh. "Golf? Alex hates walking thirty feet to a bathroom. You expect me to believe he is going to walk a massive, eighteen-hole grass course in the tropical heat?"

Alex did not elevate his head, but his jaw visibly tightened at the sheer mention of the activity.

"Traditional golf," Alex lectured softly, his deep voice carrying effortlessly across the deck, "is a biomechanical and logistical nightmare. It forces the human body to endure an agonizing, multi-mile hike across uneven, aggressively manicured turf. Walking on grass introduces the severe risk of chlorophyll stains on one’s footwear, which is an aesthetic disaster."

"But they have golf carts!" Shakira protested, highly entertained by his immediate disgust.

"Even if you bypass the pedestrian tragedy with a cart," Alex countered seamlessly, his dark eyes locking onto the ceiling, "you are still forced to execute the swing. The golf swing is an unnatural, violent physiological demand. It requires a massive, localized pivot of the lumbar spine, forcing kinetic energy through the shoulders and down a metallic shaft. It induces asymmetrical muscle development and practically guarantees herniated discs. It is a desperate, full-body spasm designed solely to hit a tiny sphere into a mathematically improbable hole miles away. I absolutely refuse to subject my skeletal structure to that level of torque."

"Then how on earth are you going to play?" Gillian Anderson asked, her husky voice laced with cynical amusement.

Before Alex could answer, the bamboo-slatted doors of the pavilion hissed open.

Commander Elias Thorne stepped onto the deck, his crisp, dark-slate tropical blazer perfectly pressed. He offered a sharp nod to the new arrivals.

"The Ballistic Botanical Golf Course is fully primed, Mr. Turner," Thorne reported, completely deadpan. "The transport sequence is ready."

Twenty minutes later, the group was deposited at the edge of the eastern jungle. The landscape had been transformed into a sprawling, breathtakingly beautiful fairway of flawless, emerald-green turf, flanked by towering mahogany trees and vibrant birds of paradise.

However, there were no golf bags. There were no caddies. There were no tees.

Resting at the starting line were three massive, deeply cushioned ’Hover-Loungers.’

"Gentlemen, your chariots," Thorne announced, gesturing to the floating recliners.

Alex, Snoop, and Keanu effortlessly collapsed onto their respective loungers. The seats hovered silently three feet above the grass, completely sparing them the indignity of standing.

"Observe," Alex murmured to the women, who were watching from an elevated, shaded viewing deck.

Integrated directly into the right armrest of each hover-lounger was a sleek, matte-black, titanium tube.

"The Pneumatic Cannon," Keanu whispered in awe, gently resting his hand near the device. "It completely eradicates the tragedy of the club."

"The cannons are voice-activated," Thorne explained to the bewildered Harem Council. "The players do not swing. They simply issue a vocal command, and the pressurized chamber fires a regulation golf ball at a mathematically optimized velocity toward the green."

"Okay, so you turned golf into a voice-activated cannon shoot," Monica Bellucci laughed richly. "But you still have to aim. What happens if you miss the hole?"

Alex let out a slow, predatory smirk that completely belied his horizontal posture.

"Aiming," Alex drawled, "requires depth perception and optical calculation. That is cognitive labor. We do not aim."

"Watch the green, Ms. Bellucci," Thorne instructed.

Snoop Dogg reclined fully in his hover-lounger, adjusting his sunglasses. He didn’t even look toward the fairway. He simply took a slow sip of his cucumber water.

"Fire," Snoop mumbled casually around the rim of his glass.

Thwump.

The pneumatic cannon on his armrest fired with a soft, compressed hiss. The white golf ball soared majestically through the tropical air, arcing perfectly toward the distant green.

But it was clearly off-course. It was drifting heavily to the left, destined for a sand trap.

Suddenly, the green itself shifted.

The small, designated golf hole—complete with the little red flag—was not a hole in the dirt. It was a sophisticated, subterranean robotics unit. As the ball reached the apex of its flight, the robotic hole rapidly zipped across the manicured grass along a concealed, frictionless track. It scrambled frantically to the left, perfectly positioning itself directly beneath the falling ball.

Clink.

The ball dropped flawlessly into the cup.

"Hole in one," a soft, automated voice announced from the lounger’s speakers.

The Harem Council erupted. Mariah Carey buried her face in her hands, her shoulders shaking violently with silent, hysterical laughter. Jennifer clutched the wooden railing of the viewing deck, completely unable to breathe.

"The hole moves?!" Salma shrieked, pointing wildly at the fairway. "You built a golf course where the hole literally runs across the grass to catch the ball?!"

"It is a triumph of target acquisition," Alex noted smoothly, completely unfazed by their hysteria. "Why should the human expend caloric energy attempting to hit a static target? The target is infinitely lighter and mechanically suited for transit. Let the hole do the running."

"This is the most aggressively lazy thing I have ever witnessed," Courteney Cox wheezed, wiping a tear from her cheek. "You don’t even have to look at the course!"

"My turn," Keanu whispered. He closed his eyes, crossing his hands over his chest in a posture of profound, spiritual stasis. He lowered his voice to a faint, barely audible breath.

"Launch."

Thwump.

The second ball rocketed into the sky. This time, it flew entirely too far to the right. The robotic hole instantly detached from its previous position, zipping frantically across the green at twenty miles per hour, sliding into place just in time to catch the rogue shot.

Clink.

"Hole in one," the automated voice chimed again.

"Flawless execution, Neo," Snoop praised lazily, not turning his head. "Your vocal expenditure was phenomenally low. I clearly used too much diaphragm on my command."

"The trick is to utilize only the residual air in the upper trachea," Keanu advised softly.

Alex lay in the center lounger. The pressure was on. He had to fire his cannon using less physical effort than a whispered breath.

The Architect of Apathy did not open his eyes. He did not move his jaw. He simply allowed a faint, ultra-low-frequency vibration to rumble in the back of his throat—a single, resonant hum that barely disturbed the air.

Mmm.

The highly calibrated Vanguard voice-recognition software picked up the microscopic decibel spike.

Thwump.

The third ball launched into the stratosphere. It was a terrible shot, plummeting straight toward a water hazard. The robotic hole practically overheated its servos, sprinting wildly across the edge of the synthetic lake, leaning at a desperate angle to intercept the projectile right before it hit the water.

Clink.

"Hole in one," the machine confirmed.

The viewing deck dissolved into absolute chaos. Angelina collapsed against Gillian, both women howling with laughter at the sheer, undeniable absurdity of the spectacle. Three grown men, possessing unfathomable global wealth, were currently lying completely flat on hovering beds, competing to see who could mumble the quietest while a terrified robotic cup scrambled to validate their nonexistent athletic skills.

"He won," Shakira giggled, leaning heavily against the railing. "Alex didn’t even use a word. He just hummed at the golf club."

"Vocalizing consonants requires the active engagement of the tongue and lips," Alex reasoned smoothly, his shadowed stare remaining locked on the sky above. "A hum is purely atmospheric. I have successfully minimized the friction of the sport to absolute zero."

Surrounded by the breathless amusement of the Hollywood elite and the quiet, approving nods of his Brothers in Sloth, Alex sank deeper into the plush foam of the hover-lounger. The sun was warm, the grass was entirely untouched by human shoes, and the robotic holes were doing all the heavy lifting. The private island was functioning exactly as designed, and he hadn’t burned a single calorie to score a perfect game.
