Chapter 66: Search for Grime

Trousdale Estates, Los Angeles. Sunday, 10:00 AM PST.

Sunday mornings in the entertainment capital of the world were traditionally reserved for two things: desperate damage control by Hollywood publicists, and high-powered brunches where executives ruthlessly gossiped over mimosas.

Inside the mid-century fortress of Trousdale Estates, however, Sunday morning was reserved strictly for absolute, unadulterated inertia.

The heavy, soundproofed walls of the estate repelled the frantic energy of the city below. The only sound in the sprawling living room was the gentle, rhythmic hum of the central air conditioning and the faint splashing of the zero-edge pool’s filtration system.

Alex Turner lay horizontally on the Italian linen sectional. He was wearing a fresh pair of grey sweatpants and a white t-shirt. A massive, oversized cashmere blanket was draped over his legs. He wasn’t asleep, but his [Biological Endurance] trait had placed his body into a state of hyper-efficient, meditative rest.

The door to the east guest wing clicked open.

Snoop Dogg emerged into the sunlit hallway. The legendary rapper was wearing the exact same oversized flannel and baggy denim jeans he had worn the night before. He walked with a slow, frictionless glide across the white terrazzo floor, rubbing his eyes from behind a pair of dark sunglasses he had inexplicably put on before leaving the bedroom.

"Morning, nephew," Snoop drawled lazily, walking straight into the chef’s kitchen. He opened the Sub-Zero refrigerator and pulled out a glass pitcher of freshly squeezed orange juice.

"Technically, it is still morning," Alex replied, not moving a single muscle. "Did the guest mattress meet your structural requirements?"

"Man, that mattress was like sleeping on a cloud made of marshmallows," Snoop chuckled, pouring himself a tall glass of juice. He walked over and leaned against the granite island, looking out at the panoramic view of the Los Angeles basin. "I ain’t slept that deep since ’92. The energy in this house is different. No static."

Snoop took a long sip of the orange juice, his expression turning slightly more serious.

"I listened to the rough mix we bounced to the cassette tape last night," Snoop said, his deep baritone vibrating with a profound artistic satisfaction. "I played it in the Impala on the driveway before I went to sleep. It’s a monster, Alex. The pocket is so deep it feels illegal. We’re going to master that track and press it to wax. The streets are going to eat it alive."

"The track is a mathematical certainty," Alex agreed, finally sitting up and stretching his broad shoulders. "It operates on a frequency that forces the human nervous system to relax. It will dominate the radio because people are exhausted, and the song gives them permission to stop caring."

Snoop laughed, a rich, booming sound. "You got a dangerous mind, boss. I’m going to take the tape down to Bernie Grundman Mastering in Hollywood tomorrow. I ain’t even going to tell my label. I’m just going to drop it on the radio DJs myself. Let the executives panic."

"Panic burns calories. Let them starve," Alex smirked.

Snoop set his glass in the sink, offering Alex a slow, respectful nod. "I’m going to head back to Long Beach. Got some loose ends to tie up before the week starts. Appreciate the studio time, and the Wagyu. You need anything from the outside world, you page me."

"Drive safe, Snoop. Keep the bass heavy," Alex replied.

The rapper glided out the heavy walnut front door, stepping into the crisp canyon air. A moment later, the low, rumbling growl of the classic Chevrolet Impala echoed through the motor court as Snoop smoothly navigated the vehicle down the hill, passing the heavily armed Vanguard security perimeter without a single issue.

Alex stood up and walked toward the kitchen to pour himself a cup of coffee.

As he reached for the ceramic mug, a soft, muffled yawn came from the master suite hallway.

Jennifer Aniston padded into the living room. She was still wearing Alex’s oversized grey t-shirt, the hem falling softly around her mid-thigh. Her blonde hair was a beautiful, chaotic mess, and her face was flushed with the warmth of deep sleep. She looked incredibly comfortable, entirely stripped of the polished, flawless armor she was forced to wear for the cameras.

"Did I just hear Snoop Dogg?" Jennifer asked, rubbing her eyes sleepily as she walked directly toward Alex.

"He was just leaving," Alex said, handing her a freshly poured cup of coffee before she even had to ask. "He has an overwhelming desire to disrupt the music industry this week. I advised him to do it at a slow, manageable tempo."

Jennifer took the warm mug, wrapping both hands around it. She leaned against the kitchen counter, standing close enough to Alex that their shoulders brushed. The immediate, grounding warmth of his [Aura of Tranquility] washed over her, completely dissolving any lingering morning grogginess.

"I slept for twelve hours," Jennifer murmured, shaking her head in disbelief. "I don’t think I’ve slept for twelve consecutive hours since I was a teenager. This house is a time machine."

"It is a highly engineered sanctuary," Alex corrected lazily, taking a sip of his own coffee. "The outside world is explicitly forbidden from entering."

As if on cue, the heavy Motorola brick phone resting on the granite counter erupted into a frantic, aggressive visual strobe alert. The silent red light flashed across the polished stone.

Alex glared at the device. "The outside world is incredibly disrespectful of my boundaries."

Jennifer let out a soft giggle, taking a sip of her coffee. "You should probably answer that, Mr. CEO. It might be Gregory Hale calling to offer me the entire Warner Bros. water tower."

Alex picked up the phone, extending the thick black antenna, and pressed it to his ear.

"I am currently consuming my first cup of coffee, Richard," Alex warned, his voice a low, dangerous rumble. "If the building is not physically on fire, I am going to hang up on you and deduct a thousand dollars from your weekly retainer."

"Mr. Turner. Good morning. The building is not on fire, but the entire entertainment industry is currently experiencing a Category Five meltdown," Richard Vance Jr.’s voice crackled through the speaker. The lawyer sounded completely breathless, fueled by a mixture of sheer terror and absolute corporate ecstasy.

"I’m listening," Alex drawled, leaning his hip against the counter.

"Variety Magazine, The Hollywood Reporter, and Deadline all published emergency Sunday morning editions," Richard reported rapidly, the rustling of heavy newspaper pages audible over the line. "Someone inside the Warner Bros. legal department leaked the details of Ms. Aniston’s contract amendment. It is the front-page headline across the board."

Jennifer, standing close enough to hear the tinny, frantic voice of the lawyer through the receiver, stiffened slightly. Her blue eyes widened.

"And how are the trades spinning the narrative?" Alex asked, his tone remaining perfectly flat and unbothered.

"The studio is desperately trying to control the optics, sir," Richard explained. "Warner Bros. released a statement claiming they proactively ’restructured the contract to secure a generational talent.’ But nobody in the industry believes it. The details of the two-percent gross syndication backend and the iron-clad 6:00 PM wrap-time penalty have gone viral. The agents at CAA and WME are losing their minds. Every major television actor in Los Angeles is currently screaming at their representatives, demanding to know why they don’t have the ’Aniston Clause’ in their contracts."

Alex let out a low, melodic chuckle. "We have effectively destabilized the labor market of network television. Excellent."

"Sir, it gets more complicated," Richard cautioned, his tone dropping into a serious, conspiratorial whisper. "The trades are completely obsessed with how she got the deal. Rumors are circulating about the gala on Friday night. Multiple anonymous sources reported that Ms. Aniston was accompanied by a terrifyingly powerful, unidentified young billionaire who physically intimidated a Senior VP and forced Gregory Hale into submission."

Alex’s dark eyes narrowed slightly. "Did they print my name?"

"No, sir. Thanks to the absolute lockdown of Tyrant Group’s LLC structure, and your refusal to walk the red carpet, they have no idea who you are," Richard assured him quickly. "The tabloids are calling you ’The Phantom of Beverly Hills’ and ’The Man in the Black T-Shirt’. But the paparazzi are mobilizing, Mr. Turner. They are going to swarm Ms. Aniston’s residence in Bel Air, and they will likely double their presence at the Warner Bros. studio lot tomorrow morning. They are hunting for you."

Alex sighed heavily.

This was the fundamental flaw of the Hollywood ecosystem. When you displayed absolute power, the parasites swarmed the light. He didn’t care about the executives, but the paparazzi were loud, aggressive, and incredibly annoying. They were a direct threat to his relaxation schedule.

"Understood, Richard. Let them hunt," Alex murmured lazily. "The Vanguard perimeter at Trousdale is impenetrable. If they attempt to fly helicopters over the canyon, I will authorize Thorne to use the sonic deterrents."

"Sir... what about Ms. Aniston?" Richard asked delicately.

Alex looked over at Jennifer. She was watching him, her earlier relaxed demeanor replaced by a creeping, familiar anxiety. The thought of hundreds of cameras camped outside her driveway was a nightmare.

"I will handle Ms. Aniston’s logistics," Alex stated smoothly, assuming absolute command. "However, Richard, I have a new directive for you."

"I am ready, Mr. Turner."

"With the media currently hunting for my face in Beverly Hills and Burbank, I need a secondary location. A forward operating base that is entirely off the grid," Alex dictated, his [Business Management: Level Max] trait rapidly formulating a flawlessly lazy strategy.

"A secondary headquarters? Shall I look into commercial real estate in Century City? Or perhaps a private penthouse in Downtown LA?" Richard suggested eagerly.

"Absolutely not. Those locations require dealing with valets, concierges, and people wearing suits," Alex rejected instantly. "I want you to find me the most dilapidated, financially ruined, commercially dead piece of real estate in the greater Los Angeles area. Specifically, I want an abandoned or foreclosed boxing gym."

There was a profound, echoing silence on the other end of the line.

"...A boxing gym, sir?" Richard asked, his Ivy League brain struggling to process the request. "Tyrant Group is an elite entertainment and asset management conglomerate. Why do you require a boxing gym?"

"Because boxing gyms are dark, they smell terrible to paparazzi, and most importantly, they contain large, padded rings that are structurally ideal for taking naps," Alex reasoned with flawless, undeniable logic. "I want it cheap. I want it grimy. And I want to own the deed through a newly established shell corporation by Wednesday. Find a place that is buried in a back alley where a camera lens has never seen the light of day."

"I... I will mobilize the real estate acquisitions team immediately, Mr. Turner," Richard stammered, entirely broken by his client’s bizarre priorities. "A foreclosed boxing gym. Understood."

"Enjoy your Sunday, Richard. Do not call me again unless it is to hand me the keys."

Alex collapsed the antenna and tossed the heavy phone onto the granite island.

He turned his full attention to Jennifer. The Queen of Television was staring at him, her coffee mug held tightly in her hands.

"A boxing gym?" Jennifer asked, her voice a mixture of absolute bewilderment and uncontrollable amusement. "Alex, you just orchestrated the biggest contract coup in television history, the entire media is hunting for you, and your immediate response is to buy a rundown gym so you can take a nap in a boxing ring?"

"It is a highly strategic move, Jen," Alex explained lazily, stepping closer and gently taking the coffee mug from her hands, setting it on the counter. "Your Bel Air house is currently a warzone. The studio lot will be a circus tomorrow. If I am going to continue keeping you company without having strobe lights flashed in my eyes, we need a location that the Hollywood elite would rather die than step foot in."

Jennifer looked up into his dark, serene eyes. The overwhelming, suffocating pressure of her sudden industry dominance—the terrifying reality of being on the front page of Variety—melted away under the sheer, unbothered gravity of his presence.

He wasn’t panicked. He wasn’t trying to capitalize on the press. He was actively trying to find a dirty basement so they could hang out in peace.

"You are completely insane," Jennifer whispered, a breathtaking, radiant smile breaking across her face.

"I am aggressively committed to my comfort," Alex corrected.

He reached out, his strong hands resting gently on her waist, pulling her flush against him. Jennifer didn’t resist. She looped her arms around his neck, going up slightly on her tiptoes.

"So," Jennifer murmured, her lips inches from his, the [Aura of Tranquility] wrapping around them like a protective shield. "Until Richard finds this mysterious, grimy gym... where exactly am I supposed to hide from the paparazzi today?"

Alex let out a low, resonant hum, his hands sliding smoothly down to the small of her back.

"The Trousdale perimeter is secure," Alex said, his deep baritone vibrating against her chest. "The pantry is fully stocked. And the Italian linen sectional has a maximum occupancy of two. I suggest we declare a total media blackout and refuse to put on shoes for the next twenty-four hours."

"That," Jennifer breathed, leaning in to press a soft, lingering kiss against his jawline, "is the most romantic thing anyone has ever said to me."

The Slacker King effortlessly scooped the Queen of Television into his arms, carrying her away from the kitchen and back toward the sprawling, sunlit living room. The entertainment industry could burn itself to the ground trying to find him. As far as Alex Turner was concerned, he had already won the war, and it was officially time to go back to sleep.
