Boundless Family Upgrades For The Deadbeat Lord
Chapter 32: Mission CompleteTime continued to flow past rapidly, and in no time, two additional weeks had gone by.
Two weeks had completely vanished since the first sickle was officially raised over the fifteen-hectare basin. Two weeks had similarly passed since little Lily and Marianne Holt had safely returned from their successful trade journey into the neighboring region.
The main settlement of Althoff was as remarkably busy as ever, with the monumental harvest still going in full swing across the final, shrinking rows of the basin.
The townspeople were working exceptionally hard, pouring every single ounce of their limited energy into the soil. Even though their physical bodies were still structurally weak from a full year of chronic starvation, the mere thought of the vast farm, coupled with the sight of the storage facilities being physically filled with massive piles of food every single day, made their blood pump with a wild, triumphant adrenaline.
Furthermore, with the practical addition of the ten ordinary workhorses Lily and Marianne had brought back from the Valmere Region, the overall pace of the harvest picked up by a noticeable notch.
Despite the arrival of the draft animals, however, a few of the summoned Bronze and Silver Rank Knights were still being actively deployed to transport the heaviest crates of produce.
Every single time Raymond looked out his window and witnessed a peak warrior calmly hauling a massive wagon loaded with root vegetables, he still felt his heart ache in deep, internal agony over the absolute death of their martial dignity.
Meanwhile, the construction of the reinforced communal shelters built to withstand the deepest winter freezes was also rapidly nearing its definitive end.
Raymond’s summoned knights had utilized their superhuman physical strength to anchor massive timber beams and heavy stone slabs, ensuring the new structures were entirely airtight and solid.
Raymond was truly satisfied with the overarching state of his territory; everything was going exceptionally well, progressing perfectly according to his calculated corporate plans.
Every single day, the system notifications tracking the steady increase of the citizens’ loyalty index filled his mind, its rhythmic chiming transforming into a piece of heavenly music that validated his entire strategy.
------
At the eastern boundary of the town where the expansive basin farm was situated, Raymond stood as usual atop the heavy wooden observation platform, his sharp eyes quietly overlooking the landscape below.
The appearance of the farm had changed drastically over the course of the final phase of the harvest. Two weeks ago, the entire fifteen-hectare basin had resembled a dense, vibrant sea of green, red, and gold, packed to the absolute brim with overflowing crops.
Right now, however, the vast land plot was almost entirely bare, stripped clean down to the damp, pitch-black loam that had been terraformed by his system artifacts.
Only a scattered handful of local workers were left on the open field, systematically harvesting the remaining loose rows of vegetables and bundling the final sheaves of grain. Raymond looked down at the dark, exposed soil, noting that the loam still looked remarkably rich, packed with high-density nutrients that could easily support another massive batch of agricultural growth.
Unfortunately, time was simply not on their side.
There were less than two full months left before the first harsh blizzards of the winter season would officially lock down the Zulor Region.
If he currently possessed another consumable Time Acceleration Card in his inventory, things would have been considerably easier, and an entire secondary rotation of winter crops could have been cultivated before the frost arrived.
But still, Raymond reasoned that a forced secondary cycle wasn’t entirely necessary. Once the four-month winter concluded and the ground thawed, they would be able to cultivate the rich basin again on a vastly superior scale.
"Too bad..." Raymond muttered silently under his breath, shaking his head with a slight look of professional regret.
Gideon, who was standing directly beside him on the wooden stage, caught the quiet whisper and turned his head. "What did you say, my Lord?"
Raymond smoothly shifted his features back into his signature, composed mask, waving his hand dismissively. "It’s nothing, Gideon. Just thinking aloud about our future expansions."
Gideon looked at Raymond for a few quiet moments, his dull eyes flashing with a deep, unshakeable reverence, before he turned quietly away to arrange a stack of newly written parchment papers.
The monumental harvest was officially nearing its absolute end. With the final wagons of the day being loaded by the sorting teams below, Harlan rapidly climbed up the wooden steps of the platform, holding a secondary bundle of comprehensive resource ledgers tightly against his chest.
Both of the veteran farmers now held full, meticulously detailed report documents, their straight backs and clear eyes reflecting the incredible physical recovery they had experienced over the past month.
Gideon stepped forward alongside Harlan, clearing his throat respectfully as he addressed Raymond. "My Lord, the final yields have officially been cataloged and verified by the sorting teams at the granaries. We can now present the exact measurements of the entire fifteen-hectare harvest."
Raymond nodded smoothly, folding his arms behind his back as his expression turned serious. "Go ahead, Gideon. Give me the report."
Gideon opened the first thick sheet of parchment, his raspy voice ringing with a profound, steady pride as he read the data. "First, regarding our primary staple crops, my Lord. From the four hectares of wheat, we have successfully harvested a total of twenty-four metric tons of high-grade grain. The three hectares of corn yielded an additional twenty-one metric tons of thick, nutrient-dense ears. From the two hectares of shallow irrigation fields, we have gathered exactly twelve metric tons of premium rice. This brings our total grain baseline to a staggering fifty-seven metric tons of dry food resources."
Raymond’s eyes narrowed with intense, calculative interest as he processed the massive numbers.
Fifty-seven tons of pure grain was an absolute logistical miracle for a population of only twelve hundred people.
Harlan immediately stepped forward, flipping his parchment to report on the remaining sections. "Regarding the durable root crops and fresh produce, my Lord. The two hectares of potatoes and root vegetables produced a total of twenty-eight metric tons of heavy, durable tubers. The single hectare of optimized tomatoes yielded an extraordinary eight metric tons of large, polished fruit. The onion fields brought in exactly six metric tons, while the carrot plots provided an additional five metric tons of dense produce. Finally, the remaining hectares of peppers, greens, and vegetables have contributed a combined total of seven metric tons of fresh rations."
Gideon closed his ledger halfway, his face glowing with a fanatical excitement as he delivered the final, grand summary. "In total, my Lord... across all fifteen hectares of our divinely blessed basin, the Althoff Barony has harvested exactly one hundred and eleven metric tons of food resources within a thirty-day period. This volume of food is entirely secured inside our twenty reinforced storage facilities as we speak."
Raymond listened quietly to the detailed breakdown, his head nodding in deep, profound satisfaction as the final measurements settled into his mind.
With one hundred and eleven tons of fresh, high-utility food safely locked under lock and key, the small town absolutely did not have to be worried about a single trace of starvation for the winter and the upcoming months.
In fact, Raymond found himself quite looking forward to the arrival of the brutal winter season.
When the deep blizzards hit the Zulor Region, the entire population would remain entirely indoors, rarely ever venturing out into the freezing streets.
With this specific four-month timeframe available, and considering how heavily he would be feeding the townspeople using these massive food reserves, his subjects would be completely different by spring.
By the time the winter concluded, the twelve hundred citizens would be plump, heavily muscled, and incredibly healthy, rendering them perfectly optimized for the intensive, grueling construction work that would be coming after the winter thaw.
Harlan and Gideon finished presenting their master ledgers, closing the parchment documents with a sharp, synchronized snap. Raymond looked at the two of them, a warm, genuine smile gracing his chiseled features as he openly praised their administrative diligence.
"You both performed flawlessly," Raymond said, his voice dripping with smooth authority. "House Althoff will remember your historical contributions to this harvest."
Hearing the direct, high praise from their revered lord, Gideon and Harlan instantly puffed out their thin, skeleton-like chests with an overwhelming wave of pride gleaming in their eyes.
They dropped simultaneously onto one knee, bowing their heads deeply toward the wooden floor planks.
"That is merely what we have to do for our rightful master, my Lord!" they shouted in perfect, fanatical unison.
Raymond nodded, a soft smile touching his lips as he opened his mouth to give them their next logistical commands for the evening distribution.
However, before a single syllable could leave his lips, the ambient air inside his head suddenly grew cold, and a sharp, piercing digital chime rang out loudly across his entire consciousness.
A massive, vibrant crimson user interface abruptly exploded into manifestation directly in front of his eyes, pulsing with a blinding, absolute gold script that froze his movements entirely on the spot.
