Rebecca’s POV
Kaden stared at me for several seconds, his gaze moving over my face as though he was searching for any sign that I was having second thoughts. Then, instead of touching me, he took a small step backward.
"We don’t have to do anything tonight."
I blinked. "What?"
"We can leave." His voice was calm, completely different from the dark look that had crossed his face moments ago. He reached out, his thumb lightly brushing against my jawline. "You wanted to see the room. You’ve seen it. That doesn’t mean anything has to happen. We can just go back downstairs."
My stomach dropped, a sharp spike of annoyance shooting through me.
Leave? No, dear. Absolutely not.
We were not leaving this room. If we left now, my entire plan would fall completely apart. We were going to fuck. I needed to exhaust him—to wear him down so thoroughly that he would fall into a deep, dead sleep the second his head hit the pillow. If we didn’t, there was no way Kaden, with all his sharp Alpha instincts, would ever drop his guard or sleep deeply enough for me to slip that pin key off the wall.
"No," I said, stepping even closer until my chest was practically pressing against his.
Kaden’s eyebrows pulled together.
I looked up at him through my lashes, softening my eyes. "I don’t want to leave. I want you."
His throat moved with a hard swallow. For a moment, something hungry and dangerous flashed across his face, followed by a heavy desire to fuck me, but he controlled it almost immediately. That restraint was beginning to seriously irritate me.
Kaden studied me carefully, his hands coming up to rest cautiously on my hips. "Have you ever done anything like this before?"
I nearly scoffed. Yes. With you. Of course, I couldn’t exactly tell him that.
"No," I lied smoothly, keeping my voice soft, innocent, and slightly breathless.
His expression immediately became more serious. "Then sit down."
I frowned slightly. "Why?"
"Because before anything happens in this room, there are things you need to understand."
I fought the urge to groan. Of course there were.
I walked over to the long, padded bench near the center of the room and sat, smoothing my hands over my knees. Kaden crouched down in front of me so we were closer to eye level, his large hands resting on my thighs.
"There are rules in here," he explained, his voice dropping into a stern, commanding rumble. "Communication is everything. And the first rule is that you control how far anything goes. You have to know the safe words."
I nodded, trying to look attentive while practically screaming with impatience inside.
"If something feels uncomfortable but you don’t necessarily want me to stop, say yellow. That means I slow down, check on you, or change what I’m doing."
I nodded. "Yellow."
"If you want everything to continue, you can say green—or keep encouraging me."
"Green," I repeated impatiently.
"And if you say red, everything stops."
"I understand."
"Immediately, Ruby."
"I said I understand."
His eyes narrowed, locking onto mine with absolute severity. "I’m serious. Red doesn’t mean convince you. It doesn’t mean give you five minutes to reconsider. It means I stop touching you. No questions asked, no delay."
Something about the firmness in his voice made me stare at him differently.
Kaden pointed toward the door. "And you can leave whenever you want. You don’t need my permission. If you change your mind five minutes from now, we leave. If you change your mind halfway through something, we stop."
I nodded again, every thoughtful word out of his mouth feeling like torture. He was being so damn considerate and sweet, while every cell in my body was screaming at him to just get on with it.
He wasn’t finished. "And if you freeze or I think something is wrong, I’m stopping even if you haven’t said red. Your safety and your comfort are the only things that matter to me in this space."
Goddess. How many rules did this man have? The key was hanging barely twenty feet away from me on that wall, practically calling my fucking name, and Kaden was giving me an entire lecture.
"I understand, Kaden."
His expression remained serious. "Tell me the words."
I almost rolled my eyes. "Green means continue. Yellow means slow down or check on me. Red means stop immediately."
"Good."
"Are we finished?"
One eyebrow lifted. I realized how impatient I’d sounded and quickly softened my expression. "I mean... is there anything else I need to know?"
Kaden stared at me suspiciously for a second. Then his mouth slowly curved. "You’re very eager."
Heat rushed into my cheeks. "I told you I was."
He straightened to his full height, extending a hand to pull me up from the bench. My gaze briefly flickered past him toward the keychain hanging on the wall.
Then I looked back at Kaden. One night. That was all this was supposed to be. I didn’t need a lecture on safety; I needed him exhausted, defenseless, and unconscious. One night, and if everything went according to plan, by morning I would finally have the key to my freedom.
I leaned up, my voice dropping into a soft, seductive whisper against his lips. "So? Where do we begin?"
His dark eyes turned almost black. Without a word, Kaden reached out and grabbed my waist, lifting me easily off the bench. I gasped as he set me down on the edge of the high padded table, sliding his large body between my open knees. His hands held the back of my neck, tilting my head up, and his mouth came down on mine with a strong, fierce heat that took my breath away.
This wasn’t the gentle, slow Kaden from moments ago. This was the possessive Alpha.
The kiss was hot, heavy, and completely wild. His tongue parted my lips, taking complete control, while one of his large hands slid down my back to press my hips tight against his body. A low, deep groan sounded in his chest against mine, showing that his careful, protective walls had finally broken down.
Good, I thought wildly, my fingers digging into his shirt as I pulled him closer, matching his fast pace.
When he finally pulled back for air, his dark green eyes were pitch-black with pure desire. His chest moved fast against mine, his lips moving down my jawline to the sensitive skin of my neck, sending a sudden spark of heat straight through me. I hated how easily my body answered to him, but I used it to my advantage, wrapping my legs tightly around his waist to pull him closer.
"Kaden..." I breathed.
