Since coming here, Skullius had prioritized coming up with a more seamless way to bestow Traits upon his Apostles. After only a few minutes, an idea came to mind.
Classes.
Not all of Skullius' Apostles had Classes or Mutations, and Skullius had patted himself on the back for not granting them recklessly. As it turned out, Classes were almost as important as Racial characteristics when it came to awakening proper Traits within the Apostles; a mismatch would further derail an Apostle from obtaining a concise and meaningful growth path… or worse.
As it stood, Apexis, Araeyn, and Beyrmir were the only ones without Classes, and truth be told, Skullius wasn't quite sure what Classes would synergize with their abilities yet.
Unlike those two, though, Red Rage and Ferex were in perfect sync with their granted Classes and Mutations.
Ferex's Mutation was the Pseudo Spirit Walker's hide, which gave him effective stealth and soul-related abilities. He'd since elevated his arsenal through the latter characteristics of his Mutation, and was only short of raising his capacity for stealth to the same level.
Red Rage's Class was the Tempered Skull Hegemon, a Class that emphasized authority and physical strength. Given his informal designation as a knight, it suited him very well, and Skullius could already imagine what Trait he could grant the Apostle.
That said, Skullius could also see a path for Araeyn despite him not having a Class. Perhaps it was because Araeyn wasn't like the other Apostles, completely loyal and devoid of ambitions other than those to do with his master's welfare. The Authority of Dimensions was the one who would rebel in time, and had a rather powerful sense of self. There was perhaps no better example of this than when Araeyn outright refused to be given the Nullmancer Class by Skullius on Aigas.
(Refer to Ch. 1648.)
It was no mystery what his Trait would be, no, what his Trait had to be.
'And then there's Weaver.'
The Nulliergrapher had a Class, but it wasn't granted to him based on his course for growth. Desperate to create an Apostle with three racial qualities (Apexis), Skullius had granted Weaver a Class in order to boost his chances of making the impossible possible. His gamble had paid off, but he'd left Eternity's Weaver with a Class that needed hefty upgrades before it could prove truly useful at this stage.
(Refer to Ch.1648.)
…Or so Skullius had thought.
Weaver was another special case. The Apostle was unlike the others in a more astonishing fashion. Skullius wasn't the one to create him. Weaver had created himself – granting himself a Race and bringing his identity forth.
Skullius had realized, shortly after leaving Aigas, that the Apostle had been born ready for a Trait. His specialty was rather obvious as well, and he could make his Soul Nullmancer Class serve that specialty with ease.
'That only leaves Beyrmir and Apexis,' Skullius thought.
He cursed. Again, he lamented the fact that he couldn't count on the guidance field to give him a visual representation of the sort of Classes available for the two Apostles. Luckily, his trip to the Null Verse back then had yielded fruits that would help him right now.
Skullius had learned that Nullmancers in the Null Verse didn't rely on the guidance field to create their Apostles. When they obtained their Class, they could sense and manipulate the ten portions of essence within themselves that would allow them to create their ten allies. How the Nullmancers grew from there also hinged upon this strange ability.
'When I created Apexis, I had to learn that ability on the fly too. I already got a feel for it, so this shouldn't be too difficult,' thought Skullius, and he beckoned Beyrmir toward him. 'I don't think I should bother with Apexis for now. His Racial abilities are already adequate, and I don't intend on sending him out.'
The Mercurian Long-Snout Legend floated from below, avoiding the scrolls, shrank down, and stood before Skullius as a gleaming, silvery humanoid with thick scales that, even while smaller than just seconds before, seemed indestructible. The Deific power Beyrmir had absorbed from the exploding Deity on Aigas had settled, finally, making an indomitable force of nature.
"My Liege…" Beyrmir pushed his head into Skullius' palm.
The Nullmancer dug deep into him. He sensed everything to do with Beyrmir's source. Apostles were not born, or rather, created with souls. All their genetic material was stowed away within a source, branching out into every aspect of their body.
Skullius could sense each and every one of the new abilities Beyrmir had – those he had used, those he had acquired, and those he hadn't been able to use.
'Null Lifeforms tend to spiral out of control with their abilities, it seems. Unlike Void Users, we struggle with honing focused powers because of our abundant potential. I thought it was just a problem with my own sense of strength, but… it affects my Apostles too. Good thing Traits are a thing.'
Taking a breath, Skullius reached into Beyrmir's potential. The options available to Apostles for Classes and Mutations weren't the same. It all depended on their Racial qualities and the potential they generated through their growth – the battles they won, their mindset, their evolutions.
Soon, Skullius could sense the possible paths Beyrmir could take. It came as a surprise to him that the Apostle could obtain either a Class or a Mutation, which was unusual… or so he first thought.
'Ferex was restricted to Mutations likely because the original creature he was born from wasn't all that powerful. Beyrmir, on the other hand…'
Beyrmir was created from the corpse of Jerthrax, a dragon Herald of Aigas – a creature that, in spite of having no humanoid traits, bore a Class, multiple Classes, in fact.
Six possibilities blossomed deep within the finest recesses of Skullius' senses, glinting with different lights and textures in an effort to distinguish themselves. When Skullius focused on them one by one, it was as though they whispered tenderly what they were all about in great detail.
