Building Interstellar Empire With Universal Synthesis
Chapter 233: Pitying GodsChapter 233: Chapter 233: Pitying Gods
For a single, agonizing second, the universe seemed to pause.
Then the conceptual pillar of reality shattered completely.
"DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG!"
The destruction of the Stairway to the Heavens did not just create a physical shockwave in the vacuum of space. It created a metaphysical earthquake that rippled through the very fabric of existence. Every single entity that relied on the cosmic balance felt the exact moment the cord was cut.
Far beyond the borders of the known galaxies, existing in a dimension composed entirely of glowing threads, the Loom of Destiny began to violently unravel.
Vael, the Ancient Weaver of Fates, sat upon her spinning throne. She was a primordial entity older than the Pantheon itself. She possessed six arms, three eyes, and a mind that processed the past, present, and future simultaneously. Her job was to observe the golden threads connecting the God Realm to the Mortal Realm, ensuring the law of destiny remained perfectly woven.
Today, her law caught on fire.
CRACK!
Simultaneously, millions of golden threads snapped. The violent recoil whipped across the ethereal chamber, slicing through the glowing white pillars of her sanctuary.
"What is happening to the law !" Vael screamed in absolute horror as she stood up from her throne, all six of her hands glowing with frantic temporal magic.
"Someone catch the golden threads! They are unraveling the entire Third Epoch!"
Dozens of lesser fate weavers scrambled across the crystal floor. They desperately reached out to grab the wildly flailing threads of destiny, but the moment their fingers made contact, they began to scream.
"We cannot touch them! They are completely infected! There is a dark flame eating the conceptual anchors! It is burning the destiny of the gods into literal ash!" a senior weaver shrieked, falling to her knees and clutching her burning hands.
Vael rushed forward and forced her own immense divine energy into the Loom. She tried to reattach the severed threads of the God Realm back to the lower dimensions.
RUMBLEEE!
The moment she tried to bridge the gap, a terrifying pressure pushed her mind entirely out of the loom.
Vael gasped for air and stumbled backward. Her three eyes widened in sheer, unadulterated panic.
"This is impossible," Vael whispered, her voice trembling for the first time in ten million years.
"Mistress Vael?" the senior weaver asked through tears of pain. "What is wrong? Can we not fix the bridge?"
"No no. There is no bridge to mend. The Mortal Realm is entirely gone. It has completely vanished from the Loom of Destiny. A supreme authority has forcefully severed it from the cosmic order. The heavens are officially blind to the world of men."
"WHAT! Who possesses the authority to blind the heavens?" the senior weaver asked in terror.
"I do not know. But whoever he is, he just rewrote the laws of creation with a single swing of a sword."
Deep within the Abyssal Void, far below the foundations of the mortal universe, another ancient entity was waking up.
Vritra, the Star Devourer, opened eyes that were the size of entire solar systems.
He was a serpentine primordial titan, banished to the dark edges of reality by the Prime Deities long before humanity even existed. He had slept in absolute darkness, wrapped in chains forged from cosmic law, waiting for the end of time.
CLANG, CLANG, CLANG
Suddenly, the chains binding his massive body began to slacken.
The crushing pressure of the God Realm, which had kept him pinned to the floor of the abyss for countless eons, simply evaporated.
Rumble!
Vritra slowly raised his massive, scaly head. The movement caused violent gravity quakes across the surrounding dead galaxies.
"Do you feel that, my children?" Vritra rumbled. His voice was so deep it cracked the foundation of the void itself.
Millions of shadow serpents slithered out of the darkness, bowing before their awakened father.
"HISS! We feel it, Father," the largest shadow serpent hissed eagerly. "The great seal of the gods is broken. The Stairway to the Heavens has been completely obliterated. The upper dimension is leaking absolute panic."
"AHAHAHAHA..."
Vritra let out a rumbling laugh that sounded like dying stars colliding. He tasted the cosmic currents, his massive forked tongue sampling the residual energies floating down from the severed bridge.
"I taste black fire, I taste the absolute wrath of the First Dragon. Eragon has finally found a host mad enough to unleash his true nature. The boy actually broke the bridge."
The shadow serpent asked,
"Shall we ascend, Father? With the barrier gone, the mortal realm is completely defenseless. We can feast upon the stars once again."
"No," Vritra commanded sharply. "We will stay exactly where we are. If the First Dragon’s heir is capable of shattering the conceptual pillar of the universe, he is more than capable of butchering you all. We will wait in the dark. Let the new Emperor of the mortals build his kingdom. The Age of Gods is over. The Age of the Abyss has begun."
Meanwhile, in the Tower of Absolute Neutrality, the situation was completely chaotic.
The Grand Arbiter of Balance was a being made entirely of polished silver. He stood before the Great Cosmic Scales, a massive artifact that weighed the divine authority of the God Realm against the chaotic potential of the Mortal Realm.
The scales had remained perfectly balanced for millions of years.
Suddenly, the scale representing the Mortal Realm violently slammed down to the bottom. The scale representing the God Realm shot upward, completely stripped of its foundational weight.
BANG!
The central pillar of the Great Cosmic Scales cracked right down the middle.
"The scales! The scales are cracking! Bring the stabilizing weights! Pour raw mana into the fulcrum before the artifact shatters completely!" the Grand Arbiter screamed, grabbing his silver head in pure disbelief.
Almost one hundred silver attendants flew around the chamber, frantically trying to cast stabilizing arrays on the cracking artifact.
"Lord Arbiter! The stabilizing arrays are not working! The Authority of the heavens has completely disappeared! The God Realm has been forcefully untethered from the lower planes!"
The Grand Arbiter roared,
"No! It has not disappeared! It has been severed! Someone just walked up to the fundamental artery of the universe and chopped it in half! The Pantheon has lost access to the mortal faith batteries! The connection is totally dead!"
"What do we do, Lord Arbiter?"
"We will do absolutely nothing! The mandate of neutrality only applies when both sides are connected! We have no jurisdiction over a severed universe! May the primordial chaos have mercy on us all, because the man who did this definitely will not!"
Far away, trapped inside the ruined and rotting Apex Pantheon Hall, the Prime Deities were about to discover the exact same horrifying truth.
Aethelgard, the God of Cosmic Law, was currently hovering near the shattered ceiling of the hall. He was breathing heavily, his divine golden armor covered in highly corrosive gray sludge.
Below him, the massive, Jupiter sized avatar of Azathoth was thrashing wildly, trying to consume the very concept of space itself.
Aethelgard raised his hands to summon another cage of pure law to contain the beast. He reached out to his divine core, expecting the usual infinite ocean of faith energy supplied by his three billion star systems in the Exoseleron Galaxy.
He found absolutely nothing.
The pipeline of faith was completely dry. His cosmic battery was empty.
Aethelgard froze. His golden eyes widened in pure, unadulterated terror.
He tried to draw faith from his other galaxies.
Nothing.
He tried to tap into the general ambient worship of the mortal realm.
Completely silent.
"My power," Aethelgard whispered, his voice trembling uncontrollably. "Where is my power? Where is the faith of the Exoseleron Empire?"
Korvan, the God of War, flew up beside him. The brute was bleeding golden blood from a massive wound on his shoulder.
"Aethelgard! Stop mumbling and cast the barrier! My strength is fading! The beast is eating the ambient mana of the room! We need your absolute law!"
"I cannot cast the barrier! The faith pathway is gone! The connection to the mortal realm is completely severed!"
Thalassa, the Goddess of the Cosmic Ocean, stopped firing her ice lances. She looked at Aethelgard with a pale, horrified expression.
"Severed?" Thalassa yelled. "What do you mean severed? The Stairway to the Heavens is invincible! It is a conceptual pillar!"
"It is gone, Thalassa!" Aethelgard screamed hysterically, gripping his own hair. "I cannot feel the golden steps! I cannot feel our mortal worshippers! That lunatic mortal did not just throw the apocalypse into our living room! He went downstairs and locked the front door from the outside!"
The three Greater Deities looked down at the starving, thrashing Primordial Horror below them. They finally realized the absolute genius, and the absolute cruelty, of Neo’s plan.
He had not just attacked them. He had trapped them in a cage with a starving beast, and then he had cut off their only source of food.
"We are going to die like this. That mortal actually killed us."
Down in the abyss below, Azathoth let out a deafening, rotting roar, and launched its massive body directly toward the weakened gods.
"KRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAA!"
