Knowing that exposing all of his ability was straight up dangerous for now, Alex decided it was best to use Deathfrost Bloom for now. However, he chose to show only a small fraction of its true potential.

So after deciding to do that, Alex casually lifted his right hand. Then with a flick of his wrist, a tiny, inky black petal shaped shard of ice materialized above his palm, glowing with an eerie, dark and ominous light that whispered the cold tale of death. And shot the small ice shard forward.

The Deathfrost Bloom shard traversed the room in a fraction of a second, and then embedded itself deep into the center of the reinforced training wall. The moment the shard made impact, a sudden and obviously unnatural chill swept through the entire chamber as a layer of jet-black frost rapidly expanded outward from the impact point, spreading two meters wide before stopping.

All the evaluators stared at the black frost in dead silence, with their tablets recording what they had just seen in complex science words that gave Alex a bit of a headache.

"Classified elemental variant..." the head evaluator whispered, quickly typing notes into his clearance file. "Devastating localized freezing kinetic force."

In the end, following the completion of all the possible tests that each recruit were made to do, the evaluators finally gathered and compiled all overall data. Given that Alex had demonstrated the abilities of a genuine Ascendant Realm expert, he was later assigned to squad five as it’s new member and made the Deputy captain of that group.

As it turns out, each squad hierarchy held two Ascendant Realm Awakened who were each the squad leader and the vice, with three Vanguard Realm Awakened and four Early Realm Awakened as its members. The reason he was not placed in Phil’s squad was because Phil’s squad already had two Ascendant Realm Awakened which were Phil and that hot tempered woman.

It was a bummer since he had been hoping to join Phil’s squad but he later snapped out of it. Still, one thing had him curious. Why did Phil’s squad only have three Awakeneds instead of the regular nine members in a squad.

It could be a platoon of reasons like, say, losing most of the squad members in a dangerous battle, or something else entirely. Well, whatever it was it was none of his business. There was no use in poking his nose into other people’s business.

Looking down at the black token he had been given to serve as proof of his identity, Alex didn’t know what exactly to feel. But he took a small breath and decided to go meet his new squad members.

So, guided by the information from a helpful Awakened, Alex walked down a long and surprisingly quiet corridor in the squad quarters section, stopping before a door marked with his newly assigned squad number.

He stood outside for a brief second, wondering what kind of teammates were waiting for him on the other side. He hoped they were not those ones who would constantly give him a headache.

Reaching out, Alex pressed his token against the small token shaped area of the door for. Immediately after a soft ding chimed, and then the door slowly slide wide open to reveal the spacious private lounge within.

The door slid fully open, and Alex immediately found himself looking at seven people gathered inside the spacious room.

The place looked more like a shared lounge than the barracks he had imagined. There were several comfortable couches arranged around a low table, a few training equipment pieces placed against one wall, and a large screen displaying information about the Bureau.

The moment Alex stepped inside, every conversation in the room immediately stopped and then seven pairs of eyes turned toward him, all wondering who the new guy was?

Alex remained standing near the entrance for a moment, calmly looking at the people before him. He managed to recognize some of them immediately.

The first one he noticed was the burly dark-skinned man from the testing room. The same guy whose ability allowed him to increase his durability and strength. Beside him stood the brunette lady from earlier who had demonstrated her water manipulation ability during the test.

There were also several other people whom Alex had never seen before. One was a bubbly looking young woman with bright eyes that suddenly leaned forward, staring brazenly at Alex from head to toe.

"Whoa!" Her eyes widened. "He really is handsome! Now our squad can finally brag that we have a handsome guy in our midst, and one that is way more handsome than that pretentious scumbag from Squad two who thinks he’s a god of beauty just because he’s a bit handsome."

The guys in the room all twitched their lips at exactly the same time. Their expressions all seemed to silently say the exact same thing.

We know we’re not that handsome. But did you have to say it out loud?

Alex couldn’t help smiling even though he wanted to act calm and composed. This bubbly girl really had no filter in her mouth.

The bubbly girl apparently didn’t notice their expressions. Instead, she smiled brightly at Alex and said in a cheerful voice.

"Welcome!" She then turned toward the others. "Come on, guys. Don’t just sit there staring at him like that. Introduce yourselves."

The brunette woman sighed softly before stepping forward.

"Hi, I’m Stephanie and I am a vanguard Realm Awakened." She spoke with a calm and serious tone.

Alex nodded.

"Nice to meet you."

The next person that spoke was a young man with short dark brown hair and a relatively athletic build.

"Hi dude, I’m Allen by the way. And in case you’re wondering, I’m in the Vanguard Realm."

The bubbly girl immediately raised her hand.

"Hi! I’m Mia!" She grinned. "I’m also a Vanguard Realm Awakened and Incase you’re wondering i am single."

[Oh? Potential wifey material has announced her availability herself. How convenient Alex]

Alex’s mouth twitched but he quickly recovered and internally told the system to go back to sleep or something.

"So there are three Vanguard Realm Awakeneds."

"Yep," Mia replied cheerfully.

A shy-looking girl standing slightly behind the others finally stepped forward. She had soft delicate features that could tug at one’s heart strings and kept her gaze lowered.

"E-Ella..."

Her voice was quiet enough that if Alex were still normal he would have to strain his ears just to hear her.

"I’m an Early Realm Awakened."

Alex smiled politely.

"Nice to meet you, Ella."

Ella blushed and quickly nodded before retreating slightly behind the others. The next person was a young man with black hair who looked fairly average but had very sharp eyes filled with a heroic light. He raised one hand in greeting and said,

"I’m Chris. And I am also in the Early Realm."

Then another woman stepped forward.

"Hi new guy, I’m Tonya by the way. And I’m totes in the Early Realm."

She smiled politely.

Finally, the large dark-skinned man crossed his arms and gave Alex a firm nod.

"Drew. Early Realm."

"You’re the one with the ability that turns your skin into that special stone like state, right?"

"Yes I suppose so."

"That’s a pretty good ability."

Drew’s expression softened slightly.

"Thanks."

After everyone had introduced themselves, the room became quiet again. Alex looked around at the group before finally introducing himself.

"I guess it’s my turn. I’m Alex and as for my realm, I’m in the Ascendant Realm."

After he said that it was like someone had just dropped a bombshell. Mia’s beautiful eyes widened in shock. Allen raised his eyebrows. Even shy Ella looked up from beneath her bangs with surprise written all over that delicate face of hers.

But Drew’s expression didn’t really change a bit since he already knew from the test, same as Stephanie.

"So that means you’re our new Deputy Captain."

Alex nodded.

"Apparently."

Stephanie gave him a small nod.

"Well then, welcome to Squad Five."

"Thanks."

Alex looked around the room again.

"If I’m the Deputy Captain, what about the Captain? Where is he?"

Mia immediately raised a finger.

"She."

Alex blinked.

"Huh?"

"She," Mia repeated, looking at him as though he had made an obvious mistake. "The Captain is a woman."

"Oh."

Alex nodded.

"Right... So where is she?"

Mia shrugged.

"She should probably be in the training room."

Almost as if her words had summoned her, the door suddenly opened and then everyone including Alex simultaneously turned their heads toward the entrance.

A woman walked into the room. The moment he saw her, Alex’s eyes briefly paused on her.

She was really stunning to the point that her beauty was easily on the same level as Celine’s, although she was nowhere near the level of Nyx or the silver-haired woman he had encountered yesterday.

Still she was like a goddess to ordinary people with those light honey-colored eyes of hers that possessed a quiet sharpness hidden underneath that refused to bend, an elegant nose, and a plump heart-shaped pink lips that gave her this attractive and stubborn image.

Her figure was equally well balanced, with a top notch chest that was just right and graceful curves that complemented her slender waist and rounded hips.

Unlike Mia’s cheerful expression, this woman carried an unmistakably serious presence. She stopped when she noticed Alex and narrowed her honey-colored eyes slightly.

"Who is this?"

Tonya immediately stepped forward.

"Captain, this is Alex. He’s one of the newest members of our squad."

She paused before adding,

"He’s also an Ascendant Realm Awakened. The Bureau just appointed him as our new Deputy Captain."

The woman stared at Alex without saying anything, with her expression remaining completely unreadable.

But Alex calmly met her gaze. Being in the presence of women like Nyx and Jade who both had that cold personality had really helped him. If it were the past him, he would tremble under the woman’s gaze.

After several seconds, she finally spoke.

"I hope you’re not the type of person who becomes lazy just because you have a higher rank. I don’t care how strong you are. In this team, everyone works together. We complete our missions together, and we protect our own."

Her tone was firm enough to make it clear that she wasn’t merely giving friendly advice.

"Don’t worry, I understand."

The woman gave him one final look before turning around.

"Oh, and by the way." She paused near the doorway. "I’m Sylph."

She then continued walking.

Alex watched her leave for a moment before glancing back toward the others.

So that’s the Captain.

He hadn’t even had enough time to properly settle into the squad before meeting her.

Still, she seemed straightforward.

That was probably better than dealing with someone who constantly created unnecessary problems. Besides, she would make a fine person to join his harem slot, and maybe some other from this squad.

Suddenly, a soft hum came from above, causing Alex to look up and watch as a small black drone entered the room.

It floated silently toward the center before projecting a large blue holographic display into the air. The cheerful atmosphere that had previously filled the room instantly disappeared as they all stared at the hologram that displayed the insignia of the Awakened Bureau.

Then a message appeared beneath it.

[Code Yellow Emergency!!]
