Chapter 49: Chapter 48: Ultimatum.
During the night time in the EBW arena, the crowd’s energy was intense.
The arena shook with electricity as AJ Zero stood across the ring from Magoi.
While standing bare chested, his wrists and hands were covered with black wraps.
On the lower half of his body, he wore a black tight trousers with white wavy vertical stripes at the side of his thighs.
And on his legs were a pair of black boots with white vertical stripes and white soles.
Magoi on the other hand, her head was tilted down while her arms were crossed.
On her upper body, she wore a black halter-styled top with a blue accents.
Round her wrists were black fingerless gloves.
On her lower body, she wore a black tight shorts with blue accents. On her pelvic area were exposed skins in the shape of a large claw.
Round her legs were black long knee pads and black boots with blue soles.
"This is one of the most talked about matches in the pre-show of House of Legends." The male commentator Josh said as AJ adjusted his wrist wraps.
"Yeah, the main show is tomorrow but fans do believe that the match between these two is too good to be on a pre-show." Menae said, "An unsanctioned match against Magoi belongs in the main pay per view."
"Despite what some of them believe, this is basically a squash match." Josh replied as a fair skinned human female referee stood in the middle of the ring, "An unsanctioned match where there is no disqualifications, no count outs, anything goes and authorities wash their hands of the consequences is the kind of match Magoi thrives. The loan shark loves matches like this.
You know what? This ain’t a squash match, this is a ’death-match’ where we are putting a rookie with an 0-3 win record.
If this were a standard match, I’d have said he has a tiny chance of victory or living but this isn’t a standard match."
"Alright, you two ready?" The female referee asked the two as she glanced st them.
"Begin!" The female referee ordered as she waved her hands for the bell to be rung.
As soon as that happened, Magoi slowly raised her head and her disturbing wide grin surfaced on her face.
Meanwhile within the bounds of a cafe, Caesar and Damien sat across the table, talking to themselves while others in the small building was gazing at them.
"When you said you wanted a private place to talk, I thought somewhere really ’private’." Caesar said to Damien.
"It’s still private. Not out in the open." Damien replied, "And the people here? They can watch if they want. It’s not like it matters much."
Caesar stared at Damien a some seconds and continued talking.
"Okay, then. What was it you wanted to talk about?"
"Saw your fight with the graveyard thief." Damien said, "Though EBW didn’t put the name of the person, I got to say, I was really impressed."
Damien brought out a cigar and placed it in his mouth before lighting it up with his lighter.
"Is that what you brought me here to say?" Caesar asked, "That you were impressed with my fight in the graveyard?"
Damien brought down his cigar and blew out some smoke before speaking
"What? A guy cannot share his admiration for another person?"
"Admiration?" Caesar asked.
"Yeah, that’s right." Damien answered, "You see, I admire you. I admire your tenacity. I admire your ferocity and your will to keep fighting even when the odds are against you."
"But I’ll be honest: a part of me is really upset with you." Damien continued as he leaned back on his chair, "The match with Nero... I was supposed to be the one to face him for my return."
"EBW doesn’t allow same sex matches." Caesar replied.
"No, it doesn’t. But they can allow the same sex to fight in a multi-man or mixed tag match."
"So you were supposed to face him in a multi-man match?" Caesar asked.
"Yes." Damien answered, "A triple threat or fatal four way would have worked for me. Just knock out the females backstage and then take my time with Nero in the ring.
Unfortunately I didn’t get that because of your booking with him, especially when Cedric Gray ambushed and injured him.
Not to mention that idiot went to attack the refs and got himself suspended for a whole year."
"My chance of breaking that little mutt was ruined because of you." Damien said as he placed the cigar in his mouth.
"I didn’t book myself against Nero. I was only informed that I’ll be facing him." Caesar said.
"Not you perhaps but your managers. Your big mummies and daddies in the skies did." Damien replied, "After all despite being sponsors and VIP guests, they hold as a strange amount of privileges that allowed them to ’bend’ the rules of entering the main roster."
"You’re talking about the Mizukais and how I got in?" Caesar asked.
"Obviously. Who else would I be talking about?" Damien asked, "You’re affiliated with them. You represent them and they broke protocols just to have you in the ring.
It would be no shocker to anyone if they talked to the higher ups and got them to cancel the arranged match just to have you face Nero."
"Question is... Why though?" Damien continued as he brought down his cigar and titled his head, "Why would they book their representative to face someone she is clearly not ready for?
Well, it doesn’t matter."
"Where is this going exactly?" Caesar asked.
"I said earlier I admired your tenacity. Your match with Nero made me a fan." Damien, "You were outmatched and outclassed. The crowd for the first cheered for Nero... A racist sicko. Not because they liked him or they were prejudiced against our race but because you represent something they deeply hate... Nepotism.
’Yet’, despite everything, despite the hate from them, torture and ass whooping from Nero, you still pushed forward. Took two ero-points from him and made him snap to win."
"Very impressive for a rookie." Damien continued with a smile, "Now Nero isn’t unbeatable. He has been beaten by both men and women. Humans and beastfolks, ’but’ I’m the only guy who can turn the mad dog into a puppy.
I’m the only guy who could bitch slap him for looking at me wrong and he won’t do a damn thing. And even if he did, I’ll put his ass in the cement."
"But now I can’t because of you and your wealthy guardians. Someone has to fill the void, don’t you think?" Damien asked as he placed his cigar back into his mouth.
Caesar stayed silent and gazed at Damien for a moment. She tilted her head down before raising it back up again.
"You know... I heard what kind of person you are and I did some research." Caesar said, "Damien Bane... The poisonous son. One of the most dangerous people to step foot into EBW.
A guy so powerful yet so dangerous that people believe he is an insane person pretending to be sane."
"Hoh?" Damien said as he puffed out smoke from his mouth.
"I’ve heard and seen how you brutalize people. So cold yet aggressive. Like a person without a soul." Caesar said, "I have to ask: do you feel anything when you do them? Do you feel any sort of pain or remorse for your actions or do they just mean nothing?
Like it’s a daily routine of life for you?"
"Pain? Huh. I ain’t got time to feel pain. I make others feel it for me instead." Damien answered, "As for whether I feel anything like remorse... Why should I?
If you’re gonna get shit done, then ’feelings’ like remorse should be out of the equation."
"So that confirms it." Caesar said, "You’re not insane. You’re just inhumane. Effectively inhumane."
"Kind of like your owners, right?" Damien asked.
Caesar stayed silent to the question of Damien and stared at him with her plain expression.
"Since you want to talk about things like... Feelings and remorse... Let’s talk the ’nickname’ the locker room and Internet fans gave you: The usurper." Damien said, "You must have heard of it, correct? It sounds cool. Catchy. But the truth behind the name is rather...."
"Dark." Damien continued as he tilted his head, "And that says a lot coming from me.
You see as I said earlier, the audience resent you so much to the point they’d cheer for someone like Nero all because you got in through nepotism. But what about the locker room? How well do they like you? And the answer is... They don’t."
"It’s just as your first opponent Cardinal said: your presence in the company is an insult to everyone who had to work their way to the main event. Those who broke their backs to make it and those that failed." Damien said as a fair skinned woman with a yellow scarf tied round her head among the people watching softly turned her gaze towards Caesar, "And he is right. Your presence does insult the locker room because what it told them is that their hard work meant nothing.
Their sacrifices and reasons for entering the company means nothing.
As long as the right people with the right money steps in, they are all too replaceable."
"To be honest, I don’t really need the company. I got my reasons why I’m here." Damien continued as he disposed of his cigar, "Even the ’Masterpiece’ RDJ... Even though he is a rich smug bastard who states he doesn’t need the company because he earns far more than the entire talent, still had to go through processes... But you didn’t."
"An usurper is someone takes power unlawfully." Damien said as one of the guys among the crowd watching was live streaming their conversation on his phone, "And that’s what they believe you will do. They believe you will become the EBW world champion not because you earned it but because the people holding your head will politick their way to make sure of it.
To grant you opportunities you didn’t deserve. And who knows... They might pay off the refs to give you an easy win."
Damien then took a glass cup of wine in front of him and sipped.
"Even if you did win without any assistance, it won’t mean anything." Damien said, "You win, they’ll say it’s because you had support from high places. You suck, then they’ll talk about how nepotism ruins everything with you as an example."
While Damien was talking, a male among the people, noticed Caesar subtly clenching her fists.
"Let me tell you something you really need to hear. Something interesting I learned since my return." Damien said as he placed his cup down, "Majority of the talents, not all but majority want nothing more than to hurt you and hurt you badly. They want to humiliate you like no other ero-wrestler has been humiliated before.
Many of the female talents cannot wait for a mixed tag or multi-man match against you so that they can score a marking point in your mouth.
Not for a match sake but to embarrass you and prove you’re not better than them."
"Woah..." A fair skinned human male among the crowd whispered in shock.
"What the fuck?" A dark skinned male beastfolk said.
"It can’t be that serious." A dark skinned human woman muttered.
"I think it is." A fair skinned female beastfolk replied.
"But you want to talk to me about feelings? You want to talk about remorse?" Damien asked, "Do you think those people in the back when they get their hands on you, will feel an ounce of remorse? Do you think they’ll care?
I don’t give a damn how you got in, what I care about is how your ’booking’ interfered with my plans with Nero."
"I’ve done a lot of shit then and I’m still going to do more." Damien continued as he leaned back on his chair, "I’ve gotten rid of many people in the ring and outside it.
Some were deserving, some weren’t and some just happened to be in my way. But never for once did I stop to think about ’feelings’,and you better stop thinking about that too if you want to survive.
It’s a dog eat dog world and you got a huge target on your back."
"So here is what’s gonna happen." Damien said as he slowly took his shades off, "Tomorrow, I want you to give me your best and nothing but your best."
"I want to see a remorseless machine doing what she can to beat me." Damien continued as he narrowed his eyes, "Whether she succeeds in winning or not is none of my business. Just make my return worth it as Nero’s replacement.
If you fail to do as I instructed..."
"Then I might have to get rid of you as well." Damien said as Caesar slightly entered into an entranced state of seeing a monstrous black-green aura with countless amber reptillian eyes oozing out Damien’s body, "After all, ’accidents’ do happen."
"Do I make myself clear?" Damien asked as his irises glowed.
Later as Caesar entered into her house, she removed her shoes, closed the door, walked towards the couch and slumped against it.
Caesar stared at the ceiling in silence and a couple of voices replayed in her head.
"Let the devil out."
"Don’t hold back."
"Be a monster."
Caesar blinked and two more voices replayed in her head.
"Usurper. Even if you did win without any assistance, it won’t mean anything.
You have a huge target on your back.
I want to see a remorseless machine."
After remembering those words, Caesar scowled and tightened her right fist.
"Be a monster but let it be a mask you can take off." Cedric’s voice played in her head.
Remembering his words, Caesar’s face softened and her fist loosened.
Caesar closed her eyes and spoke in her heart.
"Once again.... Is it really possible?"
Caesar exhaled and stayed still for a time until she decided to bring out her phone from her pocket.
Caesar gazed at the screen of her phone which had the wallpaper of herself, Rai and Eyo, leading her to smile warmly.
Caesar’s eyes then shifted to the top of her screen and saw a message sent to her way earlier from AJ Zero.
As soon as she clicked it, she read "I’m about to have my match now. Wish me luck? I’m so scared."
Caesar stared at the message with an arched brow and decided to go to the internet to check on the match between AJ Zero and Magoi.
As soon as Caesar clicked the link to take her to the video of the ongoing match, her eyes widened as she saw a ring littered with objects and Magoi who looked untouched while still carrying her disturbing grin, walking towards a terribly battered AJ who was crawling on the canvas at the time his left eye was clamped shut and bleeding while his right eye was bloodshot.
