Chapter 1223: Chapter 1223: Boxin’s Fate
After he left, she opened her eyes.
Sure enough, the scent of perfume filled the air.
She felt somewhat disgusted, wanting to sleep in separate beds, but she lacked the qualifications and confidence. She could only silently endure...
When Chu Ci returned from his shower, he knew she wasn’t asleep. But seeing her silent, he was too lazy to expose her. He simply lay quietly, lit a cigarette, and Zhao Mo Ran couldn’t hold back: "Can you not smoke at home?"
She spoke without getting up, just lying on her side with her back facing him.
Chu Ci extinguished the cigarette, speaking blandly: "You’re right, smoking isn’t really meaningful."
She suddenly turned her head, glaring at him.
Chu Ci chuckled lightly, somewhat teasingly saying: "What, finally paying attention to me?"
She pulled up the blanket to cover her face, "I want to sleep."
Chu Ci watched her quietly, not knowing what was on his mind. Just as she turned to sleep, he tugged at the corner of the blanket, gently held her chin, and examined her face in the dim light...
His gaze was inch by inch, as if searching for something.
She wasn’t a fool and naturally knew what he was looking for. She stayed still, allowing him to look... but her heart felt cold.
After a long while, he finally lost interest and lay down beside her.
Neither spoke, sharing the bed with separate dreams.

But today, Chu Yan’s place was bustling. Mr. Bai and Mrs. Bai had arrived at Maple Mountain, visiting both the Bo and Gu families. They were very courteous, much to the satisfaction of Lin Yun and Wang Keru.
Gu Anxi accompanied Chu Yan, playing around. She kept Little Bo Xin and Bo An An at home, skipping school. At first, Bo Nianyao was unaware. When he saw the two kids joining for lunch in the afternoon, he was furious. But with so many people around, he couldn’t express it. After Mr. and Mrs. Bai left, he called her to the study and scolded her fiercely, almost making Gu Anxi jump...
The door creaked open, and Bo An An’s little hand peeked in, followed by a soft call: "Grandpa."
Bo Nianyao, who was initially fuming, felt his anger dissipate at the tender voice.
He immediately squatted down, opened his arms: "It’s our An An."
Bo An An jumped into Bo Nianyao’s embrace and gave him a strong kiss, making him beam with joy: "An An, didn’t you miss your friends at school today?"
"Nope." Bo An An replied crisply.
Bo Nianyao was taken aback, then coaxed: "You need to learn skills from the teacher. All kids do."
Bo An An lifted her round little head, "Home is fun, An An wants to play with mommy."
Finished speaking, she hugged Gu Anxi’s leg, "Mama~"
Bo Nianyao was entirely speechless...
Gu Anxi felt proud; Bo Nianyao glared at her: "The children have learned to be naughty from you."
Another glare: "Quickly take An An away, do you think I don’t know Xichen sent this little spy to save you? He won’t come himself, instead sending a child as an envoy."
As he spoke, he couldn’t bear the cuteness of his granddaughter: "Let’s not speak ill of An An."
Gu Anxi felt moved, grabbed Bo An An, and walked away. The little one clung to her like a bear, while Bo Nianyao shook his head at the sight. Turning to Bo lady who had just entered: "See? I don’t know if you spoiled her, or if Xichen did, now the kids are spoiling her too."
Bo lady replied cheerfully: "What’s the harm? A close-knit family is good, isn’t it?"
Bo Nianyao was irritated: "What’s so close-knit about this? The kids aren’t even attending kindergarten. You have no objections?"
Bo lady puzzled: "Little Bo Xin is naturally smart, at six he already understands grade five content. What more could you want?"
"And An An?" Bo Nianyao retorted moodily.
Bo lady just laughed: "An An is a girl, pamper her and it’ll be fine. We’ll have Little Bo Xin in the future."
Bo Nianyao muttered: "What if Little Bo Xin doesn’t handle family matters?"
He had lingering concerns about a rumor from Gu Anxi’s pet Wang Qin who visited and commented that the name Little Bo Xin meant future hardships, like King Jingyao.
Only Bo Nianyao heard this, asking to stop speaking. Yet this shadow lingered in his mind, worrying that their Little Bo Xin would... Maple Family has been in medicine for centuries without producing such a character, not due to incapability but refusal.
Staring blankly for a while, Bo lady watched him: "Why do you seem so burdened? It’s no big deal, and not the first time either."
Bo Nianyao couldn’t argue with her indifference, only smiling faintly: "It’s true, kids should be happy while young. I won’t interfere in the future, Gu Anxi is meticulous anyway."
"Absolutely." Bo lady smiled: "You’re just bored, trying to flaunt your fatherly authority. Seeing Xichen as a parent makes you lonely, right? Don’t think I don’t know your thoughts."
Bo Nianyao bowed: "Nothing escapes the lady’s eyes."
"Of course." Bo lady said proudly.
Elsewhere, Gu Anxi carried Bo An An out and Little Bo Xin emerged from another area, shouting: "Daddy’s back, let mommy return."
Gu Anxi strong as ever, picked up Little Bo Xin, holding one in each hand, swiftly heading to Si Garden.
The house staff saw and exclaimed: "Young madam, you can’t do this, these two kids are quite heavy together."
’It’s nothing.’ Gu Anxi smiled gently, continuing to carry the little ones.
Bo An An clapped happily.
Skipping school was truly delightful.
Arriving at Si Garden, Gu Anxi set them down, patting their little bottoms: ’Alright, go play yourselves.’
The little ones scattered, she peered into the bathroom where Bo Xichen’s voice sounded: "Back?"
She responded quietly, very obediently.
Bo Xichen, wiping his hands, emerged, amused and annoyed: "Got scolded again?"
"It wasn’t much." She walked over to put the towel back in the bathroom. As she turned, he was already seated on the sofa, so Gu Anxi went and leaned against him: "Why are you home so early today?"
"The hospital was quiet, so I returned early," he touched her ear: "And you?"
Gu Anxi sighed: "It was lively in the morning, but people left, and it’s no longer interesting."
He chuckled, reaching for her little head: "If bored, go to the office, lots of pretty secretaries to keep you entertained."
"Seeing them every day is tiring." She propped her chin, leaning on his shoulder: "Tomorrow’s Lin Hua’s concert, do you have time?"
Bo Xichen sighed: "There’s a big surgery tomorrow afternoon, might not make it. You should join your brother, or take Yan Yan and Wang Qin along."
Knowing her lively nature and feeling confined in Si Garden, he usually accommodated her.
Gu Anxi responded softly, then looked at Bo Xichen: "There’s something I want to tell you."
Bo Xichen was about to watch TV, seeing her seriousness, couldn’t help but smile: ’What’s so serious that you’re never usually like this.’
As he spoke, he placed her on his lap, Gu Anxi struggled a bit: "I’m talking about serious matters."
He smiled, "This doesn’t prevent serious talk."
Gu Anxi nodded slightly, then sighed gently: "Here’s the thing, Wang Qin told me that Little Bo Xin..."
Her voice lowered, explaining Bo Nianyao’s concerns. It turns out Wang Qin thought it was significant enough to discuss with Gu Anxi.
Bo Xichen listened, remained silent for a long time before speaking hoarsely: "Bo Xin is still young. Besides, Mr. Wang intends to cultivate Wang Yue, now that Wang Qin says this..."
Gu Anxi leaned on his shoulder, whispering: "I want to visit the Gu family."
Bo Xichen understood immediately: "You mean Gu Yuanshan?"
Gu Anxi nodded, "Yes, I want to go there and have him perform a divination."
Bo Xichen pondered for a moment, "Alright. Let’s do it tonight then."
He knew her well; unless it was something important, she wouldn’t want to bother Gu Yuanshan. Although they’ve had occasional interactions over the years, mostly for major events like Gu Changqing’s wedding, they don’t usually visit each other.
Understanding her urgency, he touched her hair: "So you specifically kept the child from school, waiting for me to come home early for a discussion?"
She nodded, speaking softly, "Ultimately, I don’t want Little Bo Xin to go down this path, it’s too hard. Look at how busy the older brother is, never seen day to day."
Actually, things are much better now. At least King Jingyao can come home every day. When he was younger, he was truly busy, which led to his first wife dying of depression without receiving much love from her husband. Gu Anxi doesn’t want her son to be so busy and miss out on the joy of ordinary life.
Since Bo Xichen agreed with her, he acted immediately, without mentioning it to Bo Nianyao’s couple, simply calling Gu Yuanshan to arrange a visit.
Nowadays, Gu Yuanshan isn’t the same as before, having grown older living alone these years. Upon receiving the call, he knew that Anxi’s initiative meant something major.
He moved back to the old house, sitting in his study for a long time, suddenly said: "Congwen, help me bring the divination tools."
Realizing afterwards, Congwen had left him years ago, married Zhou Yunchen and had children. Coming back to senses, he faintly smiled, a bit bitterly.
In this life, he had moments of glory, stood on high grounds, once surrounded by friends, but ended up alone...
Gu Yuanshan sighed, got up to a cabinet, unlocked it. Inside was a half-rusted divination tray, unused for many years and had been damaged, but the household servants picked it up and stored it here, sitting unused for years, gathering dust.
He picked it up, brushed off the dust, and sat quietly waiting.
Bo Xichen brought Gu Anxi over when dusk had settled, a servant reported: "Sir, Miss Anxi and Young Master Bo are here."
Gu Yuanshan remained seated, lightly said: "Bring them over."
The servant noticed his abnormal look but didn’t dare to ask, promptly left to invite the guests. Shortly, Bo Xichen and Gu Anxi entered, Gu Yuanshan softly told the servant, "You can leave, don’t need to come if there’s nothing."
The servant nodded and left.
Bo Xichen noticed Gu Yuanshan’s poor complexion, softly asked: "Are we disturbing you?"
"How could you be?" Gu Yuanshan looked up, smiled slightly: "Come over."
They came over and upon sitting, Gu Anxi saw the item Gu Yuanshan just took out, dusted as if foretelling their visit and reasoning.
She felt touched.
Previously, she strongly resisted this because she was abandoned because of it, yet now she came here for Little Bo Xin’s divination.
Just one look from Gu Yuanshan discerned her thoughts, calmly said: "Fate changes sometimes, but Wang Qin’s words are quite accurate."
Gu Anxi was surprised.
Gu Yuanshan sighed again: "I guessed your purpose. It’s regarding Little Bo Xin and An An."
Gu Anxi softly replied yes.
Gu Yuanshan gazed at her, with a loving look, then smiled bitterly: "I’ll do my best."
Though many years unpracticed, he gently moved the divination tray, eyes fixed... Moments later, his expression dimmed, murmured: "Indeed."
His gaze lightly lifted towards Bo Xichen and Gu Anxi.
Bo Xichen tightly held Gu Anxi’s hand, gently asked: "Is it as we thought? Is it Little Bo Xin?"
Gu Yuanshan’s voice was heavy: "Currently, yes. But it might not always be; there are many years ahead, much change."
He adjusted again, calculated Bo An An’s fate, completed, lightly said: "These two children’s destinies are tied together; Little Bo Xin’s shifts are because of An An."
Gu Anxi weakly looked at Bo Xichen, Bo Xichen gripped her hand tighter.
They both understood at once; someone else might be involved, Wang Yue.
Little Bo Xin, might be for An An.
Gu Yuanshan sighed softly: "No need to worry, Little Bo Xin is quite a smart kid."
Bo Xichen remained composed, smiled: "Uncle Gu, sorry for troubling you."
Said and stood up, ready to leave.
Gu Yuanshan invited them to stay for dinner, Bo Xichen hesitated but chose to head back to Si Garden, Gu Yuanshan didn’t insist, simply sat alone in his study afterwards, feeling melancholy for a long time... Everything he’d carefully managed, easy for Bo family to take, however none delight but burdened perhaps due to his age differing from the young.
He thought of Anxi, grown up... Few years back, she was a young spirited girl, now steadier. Although often hears from Nianyao her mischievousness, as a biological father he sees the change to a mother makes a difference. Today she came for her children’s future, so why worry about Little Bo Xin’s path, just parental concerns.
Gu Yuanshan smiled slightly, the smile froze slowly on his lips...
He passed away.
At that time, Gu Anxi and Bo Xichen had just departed, Bo Xichen driving, said calmly: "Don’t worry, Uncle Gu said fate changes."
Gu Anxi murmured: ’I’m not worried about that, can’t escape what’s destined. Just looking at...’
She abruptly said softly: "Uncle, let’s go back. Have some dinner before leaving."
Bo Xichen glanced at her, "What’s wrong?" Yet he still steered toward the Gu family’s villa...
Gu Anxi lowered her eyes, gently said: "I don’t know why, just feel we should share a meal with him. Haven’t visited him much these years."
It’s not clearing old grudges, being a parent might’ve changed her, especially today seeing a sense of age in Gu Yuanshan, despite appearing robust, something amiss to a regular person.
Bo Xichen held her hand, accelerated the car.
Before reaching Gu’s residence, a call from a servant came to Gu Anxi, voice anxious: "Miss Anxi, the Master’s condition worsened."
Gu Anxi’s heart sank.
Upon arrival, Gu’s house in chaos, an ambulance parked at the entrance... Bo Xichen jumped out, headed for the study, clearing a path as he was the best doctor in Beicheng, but upon examining, remained silent pulling Gu Anxi over, gently said: "Uncle Gu passed away."
Gu Anxi’s face turned wooden, murmured: "How could this be?"
