Chapter 1253: Chapter 1353: She’s Pregnant
Bai Xun smiled and then said, "I’ll drive."
Chu Yan gave up the seat, sat beside him, fastened her seatbelt, and asked casually, "How was the game today?"
"Pretty good, won two dinners worth of drinks." He started the car, smiled slightly. "Let’s have dinner together someday."
Chu Yan didn’t know his friends, they all seem to be elite and she wondered where he met them, she wasn’t comfortable so she directly refused, "Forget it, no common topics."
She was quite independent and didn’t feel the need to integrate into his circle of friends. Similarly, she didn’t insist on Bai Xun integrating into hers, letting him decide, and since Bai Xun knew most of them, it wasn’t a problem.
Her refusal didn’t trouble Bai Xun, he smiled, "Really don’t plan to go? What if I’m up to something behind your back?"
Chu Yan leaned against the back of the chair and thought of King Jingyao and Lin Hua, she said, "Even if there were something, you wouldn’t let me see it. Besides, sometimes it’s better not to know, isn’t it?"
"That’s not really like you." Bai Xun took a moment to pinch her cheek.
Chu Yan turned her head to look at him, her gaze soft, "If one day I grow old and not as attractive, would you..."
Bai Xun sighed lightly, "Why ask that?"
She didn’t answer, still gazing at him softly.
When Bai Xun drove to the next intersection, it happened to be a red light before he replied, his hand on the steering wheel, after a while he softly said, "If one day you’re not as attractive, I might not be as constantly moved and uncontrollable as now; maybe we’d be an old couple with kids, even grandkids. But what I can guarantee is even if you grow old, I’ll still love you; even if I find myself moved by some young girl one day, I’d restrain myself because of marriage and responsibility, that’s my promise."
He turned his head, "Yan Yan, will this answer disappoint you?"
He wasn’t a saint, couldn’t promise the future, but he could be loyal.
Chu Yan held her chin, exhaled a long breath, "Not bad, you’ve reminded me I have the right to feel moved after marriage."
’You dare.’ He ruffled her hair, "No way, did you hear me?"
Chu Yan dissatisfied, ’I’m not old yet and you’re already thinking you’d be moved by a young girl, why can’t I?’
He laughed, "Just a hypothesis."
Chu Yan stared at him, softly said, "I’m just hypothesizing too, and you’re already struggling, you just persuaded me to accept this reality firmly."
Bai Xun paused and then understood, smiled slightly, "Mrs. Bai, I’ll do my best."
Chu Yan turned her head proudly, acting like she ignored him, Bai Xun smiled again and drove to their newly bought villa. At home, she got out of the car and lay on the sofa, saying she was tired.
Bai Xun washed an apple for her and then went to cook, which Chu Yan really appreciated. Compared to outside dishes, she preferred Bai Xun’s cooking, fortunately, he didn’t have many social commitments, and even if he went out to play during the day, he’d cook for her in the evening. Sometimes she felt he was mature and reliable far beyond his 24 years.
She slumped on the sofa watching the news, suddenly sat up straight when she saw something.
It was someone she knew.
Zhao Mo Ran.
Zhao Mo Ran was splashed with chemicals by a young girl while shopping, luckily Zhao Mo Ran reacted quickly using her handbag to shield herself, only getting a small burn on her hand, other parts were unharmed. The girl was detained, Chu Yan didn’t need to think much to know this was probably because of Chu Ci’s affairs, and Zhao Mo Ran had to bear the consequences...
Regarding Zhao Mo Ran, she couldn’t tell if she felt guilty or sympathetic, it was an indescribable feeling.
But she didn’t envy her at all.
Marrying into the Chu Family wasn’t enviable.
She stared at the TV screen, Bai Xun came over with a glass of milk and saw it too, then sat beside her asking softly, "Is that Chu Ci’s wife?"
Chu Yan hummed, "You’ve seen her several times too."
Bai Xun murmured, then looked at her, "Do you want to visit her?"
Chu Yan put her finger to her lips, nibbling a bit, then said, "I’m afraid seeing me would make her feel worse."
Bai Xun leaned back on the sofa, wrapped his arm around her shoulder, watched her for a while before saying, "How about this, I’ll go. Since I’m a relative, it won’t be awkward."
Chu Yan thought for a moment: ’Alright, you going is indeed better.’
She went into the room and brought out a small bottle, emerald green and looked precious. She placed it in Bai Xun’s palm, "This was given by the Bo Family, very effective for scars. Give it to her."
Bai Xun examined it, "It’s from the Bo Family, isn’t it?" It definitely wasn’t available on the market.
Chu Yan hummed, then hugged his arm, whispering, "If you ever have someone else out there, let me know quickly so we can divorce without dragging me down."
Bai Xun was exasperated, pinched her cheek, "Already thinking about divorce even before marriage?"
Chu Yan, "I’m saying it in advance, I hate pain."
She had just said that when his gaze changed, and she only realized much later... when she came to, she was pinned on the sofa while he kissed her, her face flushed, she turned aside, "I’m hungry."
Bai Xun didn’t press further, but didn’t release her either, just teasing her lightly, his long fingers gently grazing her face—this delicate teasing was lethal... when she finally couldn’t hold it in and wanted to speak, he kissed her again, only releasing after a long while to speak hoarsely, "Let’s eat a bit later."
Chu Yan: ...
*
Bai Xun went to the hospital the next morning to visit Zhao Mo Ran, where he found both Zhao Mo Ran and Chu Ci in the ward.
Seeing Chu Ci surprised Bai Xun, and Chu Ci was equally surprised.
Bai Xun first exchanged a few words with Zhao Mo Ran, handed her the medicine, saying it was sent by Chu Yan. Zhao Mo Ran forced a smile: "Thank Yan Yan for me! Why didn’t she come?"
Bai Xun certainly wouldn’t say those words. Instead, he smiled and said, "She had an important job yesterday and needs to finish it today, so she asked me to come first. If you feel lonely, I’ll ask her to come after work."
Zhao Mo Ran quickly said there was no need. She wouldn’t want to inconvenience others; she just felt that Chu Yan didn’t need to avoid anything. What stood between her and Chu Ci was not Chu Yan, but the lack of love between them.
Bai Xun smiled: "Alright."
Then he glanced at Chu Ci and quietly said: "Surprised to see me?"
Chu Ci looked at him quietly, and after a while, he replied: "A bit surprised. Have you been getting used to things these days?"
"It’s going okay," Bai Xun shrugged, "One has to get used to being an ordinary person; didn’t you go through the same, Chu Ci bro?"
Calling him "bro" made Chu Ci feel uncomfortable.
Bai Xun was over ten years younger, even Chu Yan was two years older than him. When he and Chu Yan were together, Bai Xun was still playing with mud, but now his scheming is so deep...
Chu Ci looked at him again: "Let’s go outside for a smoke."
This meant there was some private talk to be had, and Bai Xun didn’t object, glancing at Zhao Mo Ran: "Rest well."
Zhao Mo Ran quite liked Bai Xun, thinking he had a good temperament, so she nodded.
This made Chu Ci a bit uncomfortable. He glared at her and then went out with Bai Xun.
In the smoking area, Bai Xun’s fingers rested on the railing as he quietly said: "You really are a bastard."
Chu Ci did take a cigarette, slowly taking a puff, and then said: "Zhao Mo Ran is pregnant."
Bai Xun froze for a moment before instinctively throwing a punch, hitting Chu Ci’s nose with a bang, shouting: "You bastard, making a pregnant woman endure this."
Chu Ci was caught off guard by the punch, his body slammed into the pillar behind him, causing a painful ache. But he quickly regained his senses, tossed away the cigarette in his mouth, and grappled with Bai Xun.
New and old grudges, public and private feuds erupted together... The white walls quickly stained with blood, looking shocking. Nurses rushed over and encircled them, but they fought so fiercely that no one dared intervene. Finally, someone said, "Call Mrs. Chu over."
... When Zhao Mo Ran arrived, both men looked disheveled, not exactly with swollen faces but with plenty of injuries. She stood there and softly said: "Stop fighting."
Bai Xun was the first to stop, standing and looking at Zhao Mo Ran.
Her face was pale, looking quite unwell.
Bai Xun’s lips moved for a while before he quietly said: "Okay, no more fighting."
Chu Ci didn’t rudely land another kick; he slowly turned his head, looking at Zhao Mo Ran.
He knew others might think Bai Xun had something with her, which led to the fight with him, but actually Bai Xun was doing it for Chu Yan; today was just an outburst...
He turned to look at Bai Xun: "Let’s forget about today."
Bai Xun wiped the blood off his face, frowned: "Cherish your wife a bit more."
After saying this, he walked over to Zhao Mo Ran and supported her back to the ward. Chu Ci followed, while the nurses behind whispered gossip: "Is Bai Xun having an affair with Mrs. Chu? It looks suspicious."
One of them seemed to be in the know, whispering: "Definitely not, he’s with Chu Yan... yeah, the one from the Chu Family."
Others immediately had an expression of realization...
Upon reaching the ward, Bai Xun washed his face and left, leaving Zhao Mo Ran and Chu Ci.
After Chu Ci cleaned his face, he came over, coldly sneering: "Aren’t you happy to have a young and handsome man standing up for you?"
She had long since gotten used to his sarcasm, Zhao Mo Ran blandly replied: "Didn’t he do it because of Yan Yan? Are you not clear about that, why use me as an excuse?"
Chu Ci’s face immediately turned ugly: "You’re overthinking it."
"Whether I’m overthinking, you know clearly." Zhao Mo Ran didn’t want to entangle with him, she quietly lay down and closed her eyes: "I want to rest."
This signaled for him to leave.
Since she was injured yesterday until now, she hadn’t shown him any kindness, nor blamed him verbally, just coldly, cold enough to make him feel she would abort the child once he left... He didn’t deny he stayed here for the child in her belly, otherwise her hand injury wasn’t a big deal, merely unsightly.
Chu Ci didn’t leave; he sat down, his slender fingers gently caressing her belly, where they had a child together... Zhao Mo Ran slowly opened her eyes, after a while, softly said: "You’re just afraid I won’t keep this child, don’t worry, I won’t abandon her."
