Chapter 1274: He Minds, She Doesn’t Love Him

Chapter 1274: Chapter 1274: He Minds, She Doesn’t Love Him

"Now I’ve changed my mind." He turned around, suddenly reaching out to lightly pinch her chin. "I didn’t find you cute before, but now I think you’re not bad."

She was startled, blinking lightly, not understanding why he was suddenly like this.

Perhaps it was her dazed look; Chu Ci couldn’t help himself and bent down to kiss her lips. His voice hoarse, "Looking at me like that, aren’t you afraid I’ll have other thoughts?"

Tonight he was behaving unusually; Zhao Mo Ran just stared up at him blankly, unable to say a word.

Chu Ci smiled faintly, "Let’s sleep."

She followed him in a daze. As soon as she entered, she saw him placing Xiao Xunxun in the middle of the bed, as if planning for the child to sleep with them. She froze for a moment before saying, "What if you roll over and squish her?"

Chu Ci frowned, "I wouldn’t be so careless."

"I’m not assured." She licked her lips, "It’s too late to move the crib..."

Before she finished speaking, Chu Ci came over and held her thin shoulders with one hand, laughing softly: "Aren’t you just trying to get me to sleep in the guest room?"

Zhao Mo Ran lowered her gaze, "I didn’t mean that."

"So you mean you want to sleep in the guest room and let me take care of her? But if she’s hungry, what should I do; how would I feed her?" Chu Ci said, gently brushing her face with a teasing tone and actions, which between a married couple wasn’t a big deal, but in Zhao Mo Ran’s eyes, he seemed strange. After all, except for obligatory marital duties, Chu Ci barely spent time with her, and she was relieved by that. Now, she only felt burdened by this change.

She said nothing more, knowing in her heart that when Chu Ci wanted something, he had to get it. If he said Xiao Xunxun would sleep with them tonight, it had to be that way, or else no one would sleep tonight...and she was tired.

Chu Ci didn’t make things difficult for her any longer but turned to play with Xiao Xunxun for a while. Although he usually seemed distant, now his expression softened, appearing more approachable, but Zhao Mo Ran felt more tense, not understanding what had happened to him.

Her body was tense, thinking she couldn’t sleep easily; after all, she had to watch over Xunxun. She truly feared he would crush the baby. But perhaps she was too tired, for after lying down for a while, she actually fell asleep...

As she slept, Chu Ci shifted his gaze from the little unsightly creature to her face, his eyes deep and unreadable.

Early the next morning, Zhao Mo Ran woke to find herself the only one in bed. She reached out to touch the space beside her and immediately sat up.

Where did Xunxun go?

Before she got up, Chu Ci came in holding the little one, effortlessly cradling the child in one arm and holding a bottle in the other, feeding the little one. That little one was gulping down the milk, cradled cutely in Chu Ci’s arms.

"Why are you giving her milk?" She got up, asking him with some distress.

Although indeed insufficient, she tried to breastfeed, resorting to formula only at night if necessary. But giving Xunxun milk early in the morning now raised her concerns that he might find it bothersome and give formula every time, which was not good.

As a mother, she felt strongly about this.

Chu Ci sat down on the sofa, glanced up at her casually, "You weren’t awake!"

His sudden thoughtfulness made her feel uneasy. After a pause, she spoke again, "Actually, you could have woken me up."

Saying that, she pulled back the covers to get up. Chu Ci glanced at her, "Not feeling well?"

Zhao Mo Ran, a bit awkwardly, adjusted her nightgown, nodded, and went to the bathroom. Having just had the baby two months ago, mornings were naturally busy...

Gripping her teeth in front of the mirror, not knowing what to do, she finally decided to empty it out.

Once done, she exhaled deeply and prepared to wash her face, but as soon as she did, the bathroom door opened, and her waist was wrapped by a pair of big hands... causing her body to stiffen.

Chu Ci rested his chin on her shoulder, his voice hoarse, "All done?"

She didn’t dare turn to look at him or even glance at the mirror because in the mirror it must have looked like a mess. After a long while, she bit her lip, "I need to freshen up."

His large hands were quite mischievous, and his thin lips moved closer to her ear, his voice more husky, "If you’re ever troubled, I’ll help you, okay?"

She couldn’t stand him like this, pursing her lips, "Chu Ci, isn’t your company busy, is it about to close down?"

His face instantly darkened, losing interest. He released her, letting out a slight hum, "Feeding you and the child isn’t hard."

Having said that, he leaned aside, watching her freshen up. With him around, she felt a bit uncomfortable but still pretended to be calm as she brushed her teeth and washed her face, then applied skincare. Because she was nursing Xunxun, she didn’t put on makeup, but her complexion looked quite good.

Suddenly, Chu Ci felt uncomfortable. She looked genuinely well, not the least bit upset due to Song Yunfei or any other woman, though for the past two months he hadn’t been with other women. Yet she seemed unconcerned; she only cared if she and the child lived well.

In other words, aside from occasionally dealing with him, to her, he was insignificant.

She didn’t love him!

Chu Ci narrowed his eyes, realizing this long-known fact made him quite uncomfortable. He stared at her for a while longer.

Zhao Mo Ran walked out of the bathroom, looking at the sleeping little one, reaching out to pinch the small face.

Watching her face full of tenderness, Chu Ci felt deeply uncomfortable again. It seemed she only smiled when looking at the child; when talking to him, it was always a forced smile, not unlike those wealthy wives he had seen. He used to want her to become such a wife, but now he was dissatisfied.

Chu Ci moved quickly, stepping forward to grab her hand, frowning, "Have breakfast with me."

She turned, surprised, "You haven’t had breakfast yet?"

Chu Ci’s expression darkened.

He had gotten up early to care for that little one, even feeding it milk and washing its little face. Yet she still thought he should have had breakfast already. Of course, he would never admit he wished for her company during breakfast, only bluntly saying, "You haven’t eaten either, let’s eat together."

Though Zhao Mo Ran wasn’t dull, her mind wasn’t focused on Chu Ci. She couldn’t fully grasp his thoughts, and when he said this, she casually replied, "I don’t eat breakfast until ten; you go ahead."

After speaking, all her attention returned to Xiao Xunxun, her gaze tender, appearing complete just with her daughter.

Chu Ci found this annoying.

In that moment, he thought again that Chu Xunxun was an unattractive little thing, certainly not as cute as last night.

He let out a slight hum, "Suit yourself."

Having said that, he went downstairs alone, listening to the gradually fading footsteps, Zhao Mo Ran looked up—

She couldn’t understand where she had offended him!

Downstairs, in the dining room.

The breakfast was abundant, Chu Ci had been busy all night and was indeed hungry, yet sitting alone at the dining table, he had no appetite.

Clearly, he had a wife; why should he eat breakfast alone?

When a servant approached to pour him milk, he folded the newspaper in his hand and said calmly, "Does Madam usually eat breakfast at ten?"

The servant, hearing this and thinking the master was about to reprimand them, quickly said, "Missus just had a baby two months ago, how could we be negligent; usually, breakfast is at eight thirty, lunch is also very hearty. Would Sir like to see the menu?"
