Ni Mengxue’s expression darkened. ’At least let me have a look!’

She took a deep breath and let the unpleasantness go. There was no time to argue with the spirit. After resting for a few minutes, she turned toward Meng Xiaoni.

His condition was still extremely weak. Her eyes flashed with concern. Just like in her previous life.

Even until the end, she had never discovered what was wrong with his body. He had always been sickly.

She had met him during the period when she was recovering from Lu Yucai’s death. To numb herself, she had immersed herself in research.

That was when she met Meng Xiaoni. Or, more accurately, a robotic humanoid.

He possessed a completely human appearance, yet his behaviour was almost indistinguishable from a robot’s.

When he noticed her sitting silently and staring into space, he never assumed anything was wrong. He simply believed that this was how she interacted with people.

Somehow, she had fallen in love with him. Perhaps it was because of the way he expressed affection.

He silently corrected her machines without asking for praise. He stayed beside her while she cried beneath the vast galaxy. He helped her cultivate a field of flowers because he knew how much it meant to her.

He had even created two robots modelled after her past lovers. Her heart had melted despite her best efforts to resist it.

Once she realised her feelings, she confessed immediately. But Meng Xiaoni became distant. He pushed her away and coldly told her that he had no interest in love or marriage.

Heartbroken, Ni Mengxue decided to leave him alone for a month. When she returned, however, she received devastating news.

Ni Mengxue closed her eyes and took a deep breath. ’Don’t think about it.’

Her hand slowly moved to his chest, resting just below his heart. "It’s all right. We have plenty of time this time."

She gently smiled. "I won’t let you suffer in silence anymore. I’ll be there when you’re hurting."

She kissed his forehead.

Meng Xiaoni grumbled softly in his sleep, his expression tense as though he were troubled by something even in his dreams.

Ni Mengxue looked at him. ’I really want to know what happened to you.’

She was about to leave the space when the farming spirit chuckled. "If you dare to leave, I guarantee you’ll die."

Ni Mengxue glared at him.

"I’m not lying," the spirit added. "If you don’t believe me, go outside."

He pointed toward the entrance.

"That Soul-Eater Plant has detonated almost half of its body. When it realised you had disappeared, it stopped. Its core survived, but it’s badly damaged and is now suffering from the backlash. It will most likely die on its own."

He shrugged. "My advice is simple. Stay here until it finishes dying."

Ni Mengxue frowned. "What if it attacks Lu Yucai and the others?"

"Then go ahead and try your luck. I doubt it will leave its territory."

Ni Mengxue paused.

She remembered that Soul-Eater Plants were highly territorial. They rarely ventured beyond the areas they had claimed and preferred to remain in one place, gradually expanding their hunting grounds.

’He’s right.’

Just then, Meng Xiaoni slowly opened his eyes. He groaned and turned toward her. The moment their eyes met, his expression became cold with hatred.

He immediately moved away. Ni Mengxue felt a slight sting in her heart, but she raised both hands. "Calm down. I’m not going to hurt you."

Meng Xiaoni frowned. His eyes moved over her as his enhanced brain rapidly processed the information. "You’re not Ni Mengxue."

Ni Mengxue blinked before smiling. "My husband is still amazing."

Meng Xiaoni immediately corrected himself. "You are Ni Mengxue."

She was speechless. The farming spirit burst into laughter. "Hey... What a strange husband you have. You really do attract weirdos."

Ni Mengxue ignored him. She looked at Meng Xiaoni. "How do you feel? Does anything hurt?"

"Why?"

His voice was cold. "Why are you pretending to be nice?"

Ni Mengxue sighed. It seemed she would need to have a serious conversation with him. But not now.

"How about this? Once we return to the base, I’ll explain everything."

Meng Xiaoni shook his head. "I don’t want to return to any base."

Ni Mengxue frowned.

"I came here because I wanted to ask something from you."

"What is it?"

Her heart inexplicably began beating faster.

Meng Xiaoni calmly said, "I want rice. At least one hundred thousand kilograms."

He looked at her without any emotion. "If you can give me that much rice, I’ll do whatever you want. I can divorce you. I can even serve you."

His expression remained completely blank, as though he were reciting a transaction rather than discussing his own life. The farming spirit immediately burst out laughing.

"See? This boy is truly unique."

Ni Mengxue frowned. She noticed that Meng Xiaoni wasn’t looking toward the spirit at all.

’The farming spirit must have some ability that makes him invisible to him.’

Meng Xiaoni waited for her to become angry, insult him, or impose some unreasonable condition. That was her reaction whenever he asked something from her.

Every time, he used to leave coldly. But this time, he decided to stay behind and keep on pestering her till she had no choice but to agree to his words.

Even if he gained 10,000 kg of rice, it would be a huge win.

Instead, Ni Mengxue calmly said, "One hundred thousand kilograms is a lot."

She thought for a moment. "How about this? I’ll give you fifty thousand kilograms first. I’ll give you the remaining fifty thousand once we reach the base."

"I’m not returning to Swan Base with you."

"We’re not going to Swan Base."

Meng Xiaoni frowned. "Then where?"

"Fair shallow land base. That Swan base was attacked by a zombie horde."

Meng Xiaoni fell silent. His mind immediately began analysing her words.

Something was wrong. The woman who used to become irritated whenever she saw him, who sometimes touched him with barely concealed lust, was gone.

The woman standing before him was calm, composed, and calculating.

But more importantly... her eyes contained an emotion he had only ever seen in the eyes of his family.

It was as though he were extremely important to her.
