Chapter 1557: Chapter 790: Bar
Work stuff is always such a hassle, and you still have to deal with it.
Without really noticing, Zhou Yun had already become a big Celebrity—this was something that often felt unreal to her, like she couldn’t quite wrap her head around it.
Sometimes she’d jolt awake from a dream, think back on everything she’d been through these past few years, and genuinely not know if it was real or fake, with a kind of disillusionment hanging over her.
Of course, in the end all those feelings would settle slowly like dust, every stray thought would drift back into place, and then reality would anchor itself one piece at a time, in front of her eyes and in the bottom of her heart.
On her first night back in Beijing, Zhou Yun cleaned the entire place from top to bottom and worked up a sweat.
There actually wasn’t much that needed cleaning—before she came back, Zhou Lan had already arranged for someone to come in and do a full clean, otherwise with the way she and Song Chi were always away on long shoots, the place would’ve turned into a dust mountain long ago.
But Zhou Yun still went ahead and did it herself, one more time. It was her own kind of ritual—leave everything from the outside world outside, and find her own sense of reality here.
A heavy rainstorm suddenly came crashing down.
Zhou Yun was still slicing an orange when a flash of lightning exploded, so bright it went pure white, like it was going to split the whole world in half, the force of it shocking.
Zhou Yun almost jerked and cut her own hand.
The wind howled like rage, clouds surging like the sea.
By the time she finished cutting the orange and carried it over to the coffee table to sit down, the sky was already dark enough that it felt like, in the next second, it would turn into thick black ink.
Like black magic.
Zhou Yun sat on the carpet and carefully ate a wedge of orange.
That was when the rain finally started to fall.
Zhou Yun snapped a picture of the window view and posted a Moment: Just got back and ran into a huge storm.
Gu Huaichun immediately commented under her Moment: Wrapped?
And then a second comment came right on its heels: Want to come hang out? I’m doing an escape room with a few friends.
Zhou Yun: With rain this heavy, I really don’t feel like going out. You guys go ahead.
After a while, Wen Xi called.
"Hey, Xiao Yun, are you in Beijing right now?"
"Yeah, I am," Zhou Yun said. "What about you?"
"I’m here too," Wen Xi said. "I was calling to see if you wanted to come over to my place and play mahjong."
Zhou Yun: "Mahjong? Ah, I don’t know how to play."
"You seriously don’t know how to play mahjong? All right then," Wen Xi said. "Guess I’ll have to find someone else."
Zhou Yun chuckled and hummed in response.
She hung up.
Another stretch of time passed, and someone else reached out—it was Ning Yao.
"You’re back in Beijing?"
By now Zhou Yun was already regretting that Moment she’d posted.
"Yeah, just got back. Sister Ning Yao, are you in Beijing too?"
"I’m at a bar drinking with some people. Want to come?" Ning Yao said. "Lew Yuan and Yin Lin are both here."
Zhou Yun asked in surprise, "Right now?"
Ning Yao said, "Yeah. It’s rare we all happen to be free at the same time and can get together. I just saw your Moment and realized you’re here too."
Zhou Yun said, "I just got back and I’m a bit wiped, really don’t feel like running around."
"Oh come on, just come. We haven’t seen each other in ages, and Lew Yuan was just saying he hasn’t seen you in so long," Ning Yao said. "It’s impossible to catch you most days. Might as well make the most of it now that you’re free."
With Ning Yao putting it like that, Zhou Yun could only agree.
She didn’t fuss with anything extra, just put on some lipstick, grabbed her sunglasses, and headed out.
One upside of being in Beijing was that she could drive herself. Only, since she was going to a bar and would probably be drinking, she knew she wouldn’t be able to drive back. She planned to call Cao Jun to pick her up later.
The drive over was fairly smooth.
When Zhou Yun arrived and went inside, she saw a few people shaking dice in the room.
The moment she showed up, Ning Yao, Lew Yuan and the others immediately broke into cheers.
"You finally made it!" Ning Yao ran over excitedly and hugged Zhou Yun hard. "Whoa, you finally put on a little weight—you’re not as skinny as before. Looks good."
Lew Yuan chimed right in: "No way, I still think she’s way too thin. Needs to eat more. The camera already makes you look even thinner."
It really had been a long time since Zhou Yun had seen them.
She smiled and said, "I still have to do a lot more training with this body. I’m about to start shooting Killing Song—if my muscle definition doesn’t pop it’ll be a disaster."
Lew Yuan said, "Your figure has perfectly solid abs, totally on point."
"Really?" Zhou Yun asked.
Lew Yuan: "Of course it’s true. When have I ever lied to you?"
"I heard you’re working on another film with Wen Bing?" After they sat down, Ning Yao asked curiously.
Zhou Yun nodded. "Yeah."
"How do you two manage to do so many projects together without getting sick of it?" The one speaking was Chen Quanying.
