Two days after returning from the sea, Chen Chuan took Chaoming and drove to the Wing Blade Light Nest Company’s headquarters in the Deep Unexplored District.
After parking in the plaza, he looked up and saw a striking building. It was a tower whose two sides stretched upward, gradually narrowing before joining in the middle, resembling a pair of opposing, pointed wings.
The location wasn’t far from where Molan Company used to be.
He watched for a moment before calling to Chaoming and heading into the building.
He had spoken with Gu Haiting earlier. Knowing that some of Gu Haiting’s business involved bio-culturing, Chen Chuan had asked if he provided such services.
Gu Haiting explained that their biotechnology focused primarily on marine life and probably wouldn’t suit Chen Chuan’s needs, but he could recommend another company.
Coincidentally, the company he recommended was the very same Wing Blade Light Nest Company that Zou Handan had mentioned before.
The difference, however, was that Canglong Company and Wing Blade Company had a long-standing business partnership.
As a partner, Gu Haiting could use internal channels to get him the most high-end custom services, and the fees could be significantly reduced.
Chen Chuan had previously looked into the government’s technology in this field, but it took a different approach from private companies. The government’s research leaned toward creating large-bodied, mass-produced weapons of war, treating living creatures as completely expendable tools. This did not align with his goals.
Wing Blade Company, on the other hand, offered services specifically tailored to individual creatures.
So upon his return, he used the channel Gu Haiting had provided to send over some information about Chaoming, scheduling a detailed consultation for today.
Upon entering the building, he found himself in a bright, spotless, and spacious lobby. Ahead was a massive holographic display showcasing various Modified Creatures, the images constantly cycling.
He stopped to watch, and Chaoming, at his side, also tilted its head up to gaze curiously at the display.
The creatures chosen for the display were all visually spectacular—either powerful and imposing or ornate and beautiful.
The creatures in the display not only struck various poses but also interacted affectionately with their owners, perfectly exhibiting all the traits one would hope for in a companion, making any observer yearn to have one of their own.
The lobby was already filled with quite a few customers. Despite the distance, Chen Chuan could clearly hear every conversation. A middle-aged couple wanted an obedient puppy capable of watching over a young child.
A shy teenage boy, meanwhile, said he wanted a Mermaid to keep him company.
However, a sales representative politely explained that they didn’t currently offer that type of Modified Creature, as it would involve illegal modifications. But if the client was willing to sign a liability waiver and cover the associated R&D and legal expenses, the company could open a special service channel just for him.
Just then, a middle-aged man in a company uniform approached with a beaming smile, extending his hand. "You must be Mr. Chen. I’m the business manager here, Zhuang Ke. Mr. Gu has already spoken with us. We will be invoking the internal agreement between our two companies to meet all of your requests."
Chen Chuan shook his hand. "Thank you for your trouble."
Manager Zhuang then looked at Chaoming, not forgetting to greet it with a smile. Chaoming chirped at him. He chuckled and commented, "Your pet is very clever, Mr. Chen." He then gestured to the side. "Would you like a tour of our facilities first?"
Chen Chuan said, "That won’t be necessary. I’ve already reviewed your company on the platform. I’m here because I have faith in your technology."
Manager Zhuang smiled. "Very well, please follow me. We need to perform a detailed diagnostic on your pet first."
Chen Chuan followed him into a glass elevator and ascended. The building’s interior was a soaring, open atrium. The surrounding circular walls were dotted with distinct, self-contained sections, making the structure look like a series of nests from a distance.
They arrived on the twentieth floor. After exiting the elevator, they walked down a long, circular corridor and entered an area filled with lush greenery. For a moment, it felt as if they had stepped into a primeval forest; it looked nothing like a diagnostic area.
After walking about twenty meters inside, they came to a stout tree. On the tree was a structure shaped like a bird’s nest, about five or six square meters in size. Hanging down around it were numerous appendages, each ending in a thick, two-fingered, arm-like limb.
Manager Zhuang smiled. "Mr. Chen, just have it go inside on its own."
Chaoming looked up at Chen Chuan.
Chen Chuan patted its head. "Go on."
Chaoming dropped into a crouch, then darted forward. It nimbly scrambled up the tree with its four claws and dropped into the nest. Once inside, it let out a little chirp.
Manager Zhuang said, "While our Wing Blade Company doesn’t have its own active Consciousness Body in Jibei Dao Central City, we do have several inactive ones. The diagnostic efficiency is slightly lower, but thanks to our mature procedures, our resources are more than sufficient when serving a single biological individual.
"You will only need to wait two minutes, Mr. Chen."
Two minutes later, the inactive Consciousness Body had relayed all the data to Manager Zhuang’s Realm Token. He had already suspected Chaoming was some kind of experimental species, and the results now confirmed his judgment.
’Then again, if it weren’t this kind of pet, there would be no need for custom services.’ He wasn’t surprised. Having been a manager for so long, he had seen all sorts of situations.
The inactive Consciousness Body compiled the results into an analysis report, which Zhuang Ke received and forwarded to Chen Chuan.
"This is the analysis of your pet’s condition, Mr. Chen. Please take a look."
Chen Chuan glanced at it. The report was densely packed with analysis and technical jargon. He didn’t bother reading it in detail. "Manager Zhuang, just give me the conclusion."
Manager Zhuang smiled. "Of course."
"According to our analysis, your pet has a lifespan of seven to eight years. It is currently in its juvenile stage, but its growth period is extremely long. This is likely to maintain its youthful state, a common trait in pets.
It will reach maturity in five to six years, after which it will age rapidly and pass away in another one to two years.
If you wish to proceed with the Mutated Organization conditioning, you haven’t missed the optimal window. If you were to wait another six months, you might miss the best opportunity.
Chen Chuan asked, "So your company has a way to stimulate the growth of the Mutated Organization?"
Manager Zhuang said confidently, "With our company’s technology, I can say with full confidence that we can." He once again used his Realm Token to send over a process flowchart.
"We will begin by conditioning your pet, then use methods such as medication, diet, light exposure, and environmental stimuli to promote the growth of the Mutated Organization.
You’ll see the initial effects within five days. After that, there are three more steps. At the fastest, you’ll see results in one to two months; at the latest, it could take up to half a year.
But that’s the most conservative estimate. If your pet cooperates fully throughout the process, the timeline might be even shorter."
In truth, with Wing Blade Company’s technology, simply getting a pet to grow a Mutated Organization wasn’t particularly difficult. The real challenge was ensuring the long-term health and stability of that organization.
Improper maintenance wouldn’t just negate the benefits; it could even cause the creature’s body to enter a malignant state. Therefore, the subsequent conditioning, maintenance, and regulation of the Mutated Organization’s growth were the real technical hurdles. However, as long as a client was willing to keep purchasing their services, all of these problems could be solved.
The cost of cultivating such a pet could rival, or even exceed, that of training a Fighter, yet many clients were still willing to pay the exorbitant fees.
Chen Chuan said immediately, "Alright. I want to begin as soon as possible and ensure its success. If things don’t go well, I need you to do everything possible to maintain its current condition."
Manager Zhuang’s smile vanished, replaced by a serious expression. "Mr. Chen, rest assured. Please have faith in our company’s technology. If we fail to meet your requirements, we will not only cover all future expenses for your pet’s maintenance but also compensate you for double your losses."
As he spoke, he sent a service agreement over via his Realm Token.
Since he was going through the internal corporate channel, many related fees were waived. Even so, he still had to make a one-time payment of a staggering two hundred thousand.
The actual market price for the entire service package was likely more than ten times that amount.
After signing the agreement, Chen Chuan transferred the funds directly from the Wansheng Conglomerate’s account. He then left Chaoming there, arranging to return the next day.
However, even when he wasn’t physically present, he could use his Realm Token to check on Chaoming’s condition anytime and anywhere via the Wing Blade Company’s platform.
After driving back to his dorm, he threw himself into intense training and cultivation.
To master the God-Shaking Hammer and the Hollow Seal before April, he was now dedicating more time to Spiritual Cultivation. As for practical combat, he only needed to spar with Hong Fu once a day to stay in top form.
While he was wholly immersed in his cultivation, an ocean liner docked at the port in the Ji Yang District.
A man dressed like a Fighter from the Outer Ocean was fast asleep in his cabin, seemingly oblivious to the announcements over the ship’s loudspeakers. After most of the passengers had disembarked, a knock came at his door.
"Mr. Mishiro, the ship has docked. You may disembark now."
The man rolled over. He was about thirty, with a thoroughly unremarkable face. His hair was tied back in a messy bun, and his clothes were loose and rumpled, giving him a lazy air.
He yawned, walked to the door, and opened it. The blinding sunlight made him squint. Standing outside were not only the ship’s crew and ticket inspectors, but also agents from the border patrol and officers in the uniforms of the Central City Processing Bureau. All of them watched him with wary, serious expressions.
One of the men sized him up, then pulled out his identification and asked sternly, "Are you Mishiro Ara?"
