Chapter 556 - 286: Decisive Action

After he finished speaking, Chen Chuan walked to the entrance of the hall and looked at the location marked on his Realm Token.

He watched it for a moment. In the next instant, with a deafening BOOM, he vanished from everyone’s sight, leaving only a sunken patch of ground and a cloud of dust.

Since he had already smashed through many of the roadblocks, his path was much clearer this time. In just a few breaths, he arrived at his destination. Simultaneously, he released his Spiritual Domain and immediately located Tu Liu.

As Tu Liu was another Third Limit Fighter from the younger generation, his Domain was incredibly conspicuous—as dazzling as a bright lantern in Chen Chuan’s perception.

The man was rather cautious, hiding in a brick building on high ground and only communicating with the outside world through his subordinates and his Realm Token. This was likely to prevent being sniped from a distance.

To Chen Chuan, however, it made no difference. After locking onto the location, he lowered his center of gravity slightly, adjusting his already sprinting body. Then, with a fierce stomp, the ground instantly cracked in a circle around his foot as he launched himself toward the building.

At that moment, Tu Liu was speaking to someone on his Realm Token. He seemed to receive some news, and his expression flickered. Just then, he sensed something. He snatched the submachine gun from a nearby table and aimed it in the direction Chen Chuan was approaching.

With a loud CRASH, the wall in front of him exploded inward.

Chen Chuan saw the muzzle of the gun aimed at him. He didn’t dodge. With a single thought, his Second Self merged with him, and he continued his charge with undiminished momentum.

Tu Liu’s face twisted into a vicious sneer as he squeezed the trigger.

In their vision, the world suddenly slowed to a crawl. Blinding light poured in from behind Chen Chuan, silhouetting him as he leaped forward, wrapped in a vortex of flying bricks and dust.

The submachine gun’s muzzle erupted in a blinding flash of fire. Bullets spat from the barrel in a powerful tremor, but upon hitting Chen Chuan’s body, they flattened and deformed before ricocheting away harmlessly.

Tu Liu stared into the pair of brilliantly glowing eyes fixed on him, his expression one of pure terror. But it was quickly replaced by a flash of savagery. He twisted his body, drew a dagger from his waist, and lunged forward with a desperate stab.

Chen Chuan extended a hand, palm facing the dagger’s tip. He met the strike head-on. As their Power clashed, the dagger bent and twisted before shattering into several pieces with a sharp SNAP. Chen Chuan’s hand continued its forward motion, first clamping down on the hand that held the dagger, then driving it back against Tu Liu’s own forehead.

At that exact moment, a ferocious wave of Power erupted from his palm. The entire building seemed to shudder.

Tu Liu’s head snapped back. His body flew off the ground, crashed through the opposite wall, and sailed outside. He landed on his back with a sickening THUD in the open area below, followed by the clattering cascade of bricks from the two ruined walls.

Chen Chuan landed steadily on his feet. He walked to the newly formed hole in the wall and looked down. He saw Tu Liu lying there, spread-eagled on the ground.

His forehead, which had been struck, was a mangled mess along with his shattered hand and the fragments of the broken dagger. His limbs twitched erratically. The force of the blow had instantly liquefied his brain; he was beyond saving.

He had checked earlier. Tu Liu had over a dozen wanted charges to his name, so Chen Chuan had no intention of holding back.

As for Tu Liu’s connection to the Swordfish Gang or Ferris Wheel, he knew Ferris Wheel would never leave behind any usable evidence. There was no point in asking.

Everything had happened so fast that the people nearby still didn’t understand what was going on. They only heard gunshots and then saw a wall get blown through as if by a cannonball. A moment later, the panicked, shuffling footsteps of a gathering crowd could be heard.

Standing there, he tapped his Realm Token and said, "It’s handled on my end. It’s your turn."

Tu Man and the others couldn’t hide the shock on their faces.

Tu Liu had been one of the gang’s most powerful fighters. He and Tu Nai had fought off numerous attacks from the Swordfish Gang, surviving countless gunshot and arrow wounds and recovering with incredible speed each time.

Even when the Swordfish Gang had their own Third Limit Fighters, a ferocious Tu Liu could take on two at once. Yet this same man had been killed by Chen Chuan in mere moments—and that didn’t even include Chen Chuan’s travel time.

The shock this dealt them was immense.

’Is this the true power of a Fighter from the Processing Bureau?’

Tu Man and a few of the other elders exchanged a look. They immediately used their Realm Tokens to announce to all the gang members that Tu Liu was the one who had secretly colluded with the Swordfish Gang to murder their leader. His goal was to have the leader killed and then incite the gang to charge into a waiting Swordfish Gang ambush. It was a trap!

Whether or not this was the truth didn’t matter. Tu Liu was a dead man who could no longer speak. Besides, given his recent actions, it wasn’t much of a stretch to believe.

At the same time, Tu Man ordered Tu Nai to immediately take men and round up Tu Liu’s closest followers. If they had already fled, so be it. But any who remained were to be brought under control at once. This would allow them to temporarily contain the situation.

But the matter was far from over. Their leader had been murdered; they couldn’t just let it go.

However, in their current state, they lacked the strength to launch an external offensive. They would be lucky to simply protect themselves. So, whether they liked it or not, any thoughts of revenge had to be postponed.

Chen Chuan had already left the building and gone outside. After waiting by his Gard Car for a short while, he saw Tu Nai emerge. "Captain Chen," Tu Nai said, "I’ll go back with you."

"There’s no need," Chen Chuan replied.

Tu Nai froze.

"Now that the matter has been clarified, you don’t need to return with me," Chen Chuan explained. "I came looking for you mainly at Miss Deng’s request. You can rest assured, she’s in a safe place and is alright for now. I don’t think it’s a good idea for her to return to the Elephant Gang at the moment. Once you’ve settled things within the gang, you can go see her whenever you wish."

It dawned on Tu Nai. "She asked you for help?" He struck his own head in frustration and self-reproach. "If only I had believed her sooner, the old leader would never have been killed!"

"The Ferris Wheel Company would have found a way to get to you regardless," Chen Chuan said. "If it wasn’t your leader, it would have been someone else. You wouldn’t have been able to stop them."

Tu Nai let out a frustrated sigh and looked up. "Thank you, Captain Chen. It’s just..." He hesitated. "Did Xiaoxin tell you about her ability?"

Chen Chuan knew what he was worried about. "I haven’t told my superiors she has precognitive abilities. Since she put her trust in me, I won’t tell anyone without her permission. It won’t be mentioned in my report, either."

He was well aware that if Deng Xin’s ability were exposed, it wouldn’t necessarily be a good thing for her. That was a choice she had to make for herself.

Tu Nai said gratefully, "Thank you, Captain Chen. If there’s ever anything you need from me in the future, please don’t hesitate to ask. I, Tu Nai, won’t flinch for a second."

"Alright," Chen Chuan said. "I’ll remember that."

He was willing to engage with Tu Nai because, unlike Tu Liu, the man valued loyalty and friendship. Though a Fighter involved in gang disputes, he didn’t use his strength to run rampant. That was a rarity among gang members, and in the overall climate of Central City, a person like him was considered decent.

He and Tu Nai exchanged contact information. Then, he opened the door to his car, got in, and drove away.

On the drive back, he reflected on the situation. ’Ferris Wheel’s move was actually quite brilliant. Once the old Elephant Gang leader died, Tu Liu’s faction was bound to make a play for power.’

’Tu Nai, on the other hand, was backed by the old guard. Once the two factions started fighting, it wouldn’t matter who won or lost, or which of the two Third Limit Fighters fell. The Elephant Gang would suffer a devastating blow either way.’

’Ferris Wheel surely has more moves planned, but I’ve already reported the incident. The Processing Bureau will have to consider how to handle the fallout. It’s not my concern anymore.’

The crucial thing was that he now understood why Ferris Wheel was targeting him.

Now, he had to consider how exactly to counter them.

’If nothing else, the Canglong Company would certainly be interested in this kind of news.’

He contacted Ni Qianqian. "Sister Ni, I’m out of the Elephant Gang’s territory. You’ve taken her to the Bureau? Good. Thanks for your trouble."

This was part of his arrangement with Ni Qianqian: to place Deng Xin at the Bureau as a witness. This would keep her out of danger. As long as Deng Xin didn’t voluntarily reveal her ability, she wouldn’t draw too much attention, and she could leave whenever she wanted after things settled down.

With that handled, he headed back to Wuyi. The day’s events had taken up a significant amount of time, and he needed to make the most of what was left to continue his training.

He had to find a way to master everything Teacher Xue had taught him before April.

He had already achieved a preliminary grasp of the God-Shaking Hammer and the Hollow Seal, but his application was still somewhat clumsy. This had been obvious during his fight with Mishiro Ara.

In the end, he had suppressed Mishiro Ara with his superior physique, remaining almost entirely on the defensive in the spiritual realm. Every time he tried to use his new techniques, his opponent had found a way to counter them.

Even so, it was clear that these two techniques were far from simple. After all, even someone as skilled in Spiritual Power as Mishiro Ara had been unwilling to clash with him head-on in the spiritual realm.

While his profound spiritual foundation was part of the reason, the techniques themselves played a huge role. Once he could wield them with complete proficiency, he would be able to unleash even greater might.

After returning to his dormitory, he once again immersed himself in his training. Several days passed quickly.

On the thirty-first, he arrived at his training class early in the morning.

Today was the last day of March. Since the training course was scheduled to end before April, this would be their final session.

The training with Chen Bitong over the past few days had not been fruitless.

Although much of it focused on techniques for dealing with creatures from the Merging Land, it had genuinely enhanced his practical combat abilities. The skills for enduring and dissipating powerful external forces, in particular, were universally applicable. As for the explosive Power techniques, as long as his physical conditioning was sufficient, there was no reason he couldn’t use them against other Fighters.

As he was lost in thought, Chen Bitong walked in from outside.

Seeing that everyone was present, he wasted no time on pleasantries. "This is the final day of the training course," he announced. "I will be conducting an assessment. For those who pass, I will submit a report to the Defense Department recommending you for priority consideration. There will also be rewards."
