Chapter 560 290: The Situation

After ending his call with Yan Yi, Chen Chuan walked aside and picked up the box Chen Bitong had given him from the table, opening it for a look.

Inside lay a stone the size of a fist. Its surface appeared rough and uneven, seemingly unremarkable.

He reached out to touch it, only to find it was surprisingly fine and smooth, with a warm, gentle quality. After just a few moments of contact, his mind felt incredibly refreshed, as if a great weight had been lifted, leaving him feeling unburdened and ready for anything.

Mere contact brought significant benefits. He could tell this object truly had a powerful effect on strengthening the spirit; it would be immensely helpful to him.

But then he recalled what Teacher Xue had told him. Even if Chen Bitong's spirit was nearly perfect, it wasn't truly perfect. 'So, when he said he didn't need this... was it the truth, or was there some other reason?'

After a moment of thought, he put the object away. He then went to the training room, took out a vial of special medicine, sat down, and tilted his head back to ingest it.

As the medicine's potency spread and took effect, the Mutated Organization throughout his body became active. This time, he didn't use his Second Self to block anything, allowing countless noises and external disturbances to flood in.

However, having embarked on the path of cultivating Spiritual Power, he could now easily maintain his mental focus without using his Second Self, remaining undisturbed by these strange phenomena.

He looked up and saw a thin crack splitting the space above him. The fissure resembled an opening eye, slowly widening. A black, viscous, fluorescent substance seemed to seep from its edges, dripping down into this world, one strand at a time.

He could also see that a thin, cocoon-like shell seemed to cover Central City. When those substances landed on it, they were blocked. However, some areas appeared to be heavily contaminated; their color had grown dark and murky, showing signs of being pierced through.

A short while later, however, the contamination would be absorbed by some kind of force, and the shell would slowly return to normal. But he also noticed that this force seemed unstable, sometimes stronger, sometimes weaker.

This was very likely the protective barrier formed by the Fumu. This instability was probably because the Fumu was about to enter its reproductive phase.

By this logic, the situation would certainly become more severe once the Fumu truly began to divide and reproduce. Teacher Xue had said he could predict the approximate timing, and this must be how.

If he could make this judgment, then others could as well. When the time came, things would likely play out just as Teacher Xue had predicted, with numerous incidents occurring.

'I'll deal with it when the time comes.'

He stopped overthinking and focused on his cultivation, absorbing the medicine's potency.

He remained in seated meditation until evening.

He got up, washed his face, and changed his clothes. After letting Yan Yi know, he declined her offer to send a car, then went downstairs and drove off on his own.

A little over half an Hour later, his car slowly entered the plaza of the Fusion Boundary Company.

As Chen Chuan got out of his car and walked toward the main entrance, the security guards on both sides stopped in their tracks, stood at attention, and saluted.

Yan Yi was already waiting for him at the lobby entrance. When she saw him approach, she gave a slight bow and led the way. The two of them took an elevator to the president's office on one of the upper floors. Meng Shu was waiting there, dressed in the uniform of the Fusion Boundary Company's president.

Chen Chuan greeted her and glanced behind her. A woman with delicate features and a gentle, serene demeanor stood there, offering him a faint smile.

He nodded slightly. This was Li Ying, the company's active Consciousness Body. Including the time he had escorted Meng Shu back to the company, this was the second time they had met.

After the greetings were exchanged, they all took their seats.

Yan Yi said, "Mr. Chen, the City Government sent a formal notice today informing us that the Fumu is about to enter its reproductive phase. They require our company to contribute security forces to assist the government with the defense of Central City."

She tapped her Realm Token, sending over a file. "We've reviewed the company's records. We cooperated with the government once before, fifteen years ago, but this time might be different.

There might be a breach in the World Ring, and judging by the situation in Central City, the reality could be far more severe. Our company was also deeply affected not long ago, so we'd like to hear your opinion, Mr. Chen. What course of action should we take?"

Chen Chuan knew that because it had once been infiltrated by an entity from the other side, the Fusion Boundary Company would likely be under scrutiny.

He said, "My advice is this: precisely because an entity from the other side attached itself to you in the past, the company should contribute as many security forces as possible to assist the government.

The company itself doesn't need to worry too much. From what I can tell, the entities from the other side have no connection to one another. Even if other entities arrive this time, they won't be drawn to the company."

He added silently in his mind, 'Because there might be a more noteworthy target here.'

He then turned to Meng Shu and offered his advice. "I suggest consolidating the company's forces. During this period, Meng Shu, you should do your best not to leave the company."

Meng Shu nodded lightly. This was consistent with Li Ying's assessment. She said, "Then starting today, I'll stay at the company and won't go home until this period has passed."

Chen Chuan said earnestly, "Contact me if anything happens. I'll get here as fast as I can."

At that same moment, inside the Ferris Wheel Company, Security Manager Guan Shangjing was frowning at a report.

He had originally devised a series of plans. Once the leader of the Elephant Gang died, the gang would be consumed by infighting between two factions. Tu Liu would then lead his men to attack the Swordfish Gang, conveniently killing off most of their key members. The entire Yinglu District would then belong solely to the Swordfish Gang.

The heavily weakened Elephant Gang would be unable to protect Deng Xin, who could then be easily eliminated. It was a perfect plan to kill two birds with one stone.

But the Elephant Gang had unexpectedly dealt with Tu Liu swiftly, installed Tu Nai as the new leader, and simply swallowed their pride. The Swordfish Gang's preparations had been for nothing.

And according to the reports, their target from the Processing Bureau had interfered, causing the plan to fail. Even Deng Xin had been taken into the Processing Bureau's custody, rendering any of his subsequent moves pointless.

He tossed the report onto his desk, steepled his fingers, and his gaze grew profound.

"It seems the final reckoning will have to wait until that day…"

He looked up at a light screen to his side. The left column listed pending tasks, while the right showed that the directors were in an internal meeting that had already lasted five Hours.

It was the fourth board meeting this month. The main point of contention was the company's direction for the next phase, but time was running out. A decision had to be made this time.

Just as he was thinking this, the meeting timer on the screen stopped, indicating the meeting had ended.

Just then, a gentle, friendly female voice came from his Realm Token: "Manager Guan Shang, Director Eagle Tail requests your presence at Jiajianfei Hall. He has a company assignment to discuss with you."

Guan Shangjing rose from his seat. He left his office and entered a private elevator across the hall. The indicator flickered, climbing until it displayed the character "Jia." The doors then slid open, revealing a tall, spacious floral court.

Two deep-red *fei* trees immediately caught his eye. Rows of golden glow-grass lanterns hung from above, and the path underfoot was paved with white pebbles.

He removed his shoes, stepped onto the path, and walked slowly around a screen partition. There, a stern-faced, heavyset man in his fifties or sixties sat cross-legged on a raised platform.

He was dressed in loose, ancient-style silk robes with a distinct Outer Ocean influence. His hair was tied in an old-fashioned Fighter's topknot, and his face bore two symmetrical, inlaid lines. Not far from his hand, a daisho—a long and a short, slightly curved, exquisite blade—rested on a rack.

He walked before the old man and bowed deeply. "Director Eagle Tail."

Director Eagle Tail said, "The board has reached a final decision. We will execute the 'Spring Formation Plan.'"

Guan Shangjing looked up. "So the company has made its decision?"

"The Federation has been embedded with our company for over a hundred days, yet their evaluation has been repeatedly delayed. They haven't given us a clear response or even told us where we stand. Their intention is obvious." Director Eagle Tail looked at Guan Shangjing. "They're waiting for us to make the decision they want."

Guan Shangjing slowly straightened up and said in a low voice, "It seems they want *that* thing. Their appetite is enormous. Director Eagle Tail, if we are the ones to do this, then the Ferris Wheel Company will bear all the risk.

He looked at the director. "If we don't receive a firm promise, must we really bow to their will?"

"Given the current situation, we have no room to retreat," Director Eagle Tail said gravely.

"Canglong Company and the Overseas Development Group have taken advantage of us concentrating our forces in Central City. They are stirring up conflict between our company and various nations in the Outer Ocean. Many of those nations are buckling under the pressure and starting to waver. Our business has been hit hard."

As he spoke, Guan Shangjing saw numerous red warning indicators light up on the screen behind the director, marking the company's outposts on various islands in the Outer Ocean.

"The strategy team has analyzed the situation. From the moment we decided to join the Federation, these attacks were bound to happen, and they will continue indefinitely.

Now that we have started down this path, the company cannot turn back. We can only succeed; failure is not an option! Manager Guan Shang, I need you to steel your resolve!"

Guan Shangjing bowed solemnly. "Yes, sir. I understand!"

Director Eagle Tail grunted. "We are being watched closely by all sides in Central City, so we cannot use company personnel or resources. What of the recruits I had you gather a while ago? How are the preparations?"

Guan Shangjing looked up and said, "Henetsu Yoshima of Langtao Hall and Nakagami Hiroshi of Anyao Hall both formally declined my invitation. It's unlikely they will join us.

However, Senior Brother Gongying has accepted my invitation. He will come and serve the company. With him will be a large group of disciples recruited from Wind Forest Hall."

Director Eagle Tail said, "Gongying Changxiu, the head disciple of Wind Forest Hall. I have long heard of his reputation. With him leading the disciples from Wind Forest Hall, we will have more than enough. Very good, Manager Guan Shang. I trust you to coordinate this matter well!"
