Chapter 39: Chapter 39: The Governor’s Rage

’A call from my old commander? It can’t be about this, can it?’

Chen Hai instinctively snapped to attention and answered the phone.

Li Changshan’s voice was steady, but each word was forced through clenched teeth. "Chen Hai, of the nine great armies under Mr. Wutian, the Lieyang Army is number one. Do you know why?"

"Sir..."

"Shut up!" Li Changshan roared. "It’s because the name Lieyang represents a noble and righteous spirit! The entire veterans’ chat group knows about the Tianjiao Primary School incident! It was the War Pavilion! A message from the Grand General of Heavenlessness! You call this handling things? You son of a bitch, you’re going to drag the Lieyang Army’s name through the mud."

Li Changshan gave Chen Hai no chance to speak.

He was providing emergency support on the Northern Domain Battlefield, which explained his foul temper. "Fine, you’re the Governor now, and I’m just a businessman. You’re the big official, right? In that case, how about I, as a veteran of the Lieyang Army, get on my knees and beg you? Will that work?"

Chen Hai cried. The grown man actually started to cry. "Old Commander, I was wrong! This happened in Su City, under my watch, so it’s my fault! I’m dropping everything else. I’m going to handle this now."

Li Changshan’s tone softened slightly. "I’ll be waiting to see what you do."

The call disconnected again.

Chen Hai’s eyes went bloodshot. He spun around, grabbed a teacup, and smashed it on his large desk.

All the high-level officials from every department in Su City shot to their feet in shock, trembling.

Chen Hai laid out the ugly affair at Tianjiao Primary School, nearly smashing his desk to pieces in his towering rage.

"Meeting’s over! Everyone, every department, from the director to the deputy director—all of you, get to Tianjiao Primary School now!"

Chen Hai glared. "If we don’t handle this right, we’ll be failing our superiors above and the people of Su City below! You all better listen up—I’m putting my neck on the line! Got it?"

"Ah! Governor Chen! There’s no need for this, really!"

The officials below panicked.

’What the hell is this? All because of that damn Principal Li from Tianjiao Primary School, plus that nobody Director Zhang? And now the entire upper echelon of Su City has to take the heat for it?’

Chen Hai ground his teeth. "A Mr. Wutian called earlier. Which one of you bastards answered the phone?"

The man who had answered the phone was dragged forward. He looked like he was about to faint, his face ashen.

"Remember this bastard’s name. All departments will blacklist him—permanently. Make sure he’s gone for good!" Chen Hai said with a look of disgust. "Everyone else, move out now!"

The convoy of high-level officials, more than thirty cars in total with secretaries in tow, had a presence so imposing it seemed to bring all of Su City to a standstill.

When they arrived at Tianjiao Primary School, Chen Hai didn’t even bother going through the gate. He stood with his hands on his hips and barked, "Get that principal surnamed Li out here! Just him. And tell him to run!"

Principal Li was in the middle of a school assembly, dealing with the troublemaking parents.

Just then, he was puffing out his stomach, his face a mask of rage. "They dare cause a scene at the school gate? Even the damn city leadership has to show our school some respect! Handle this! Make an example of one of them and send them straight to the Police Department! My anger won’t be quelled until someone is arrested!"

Outside, the heads of the academic and administrative offices, along with a few other senior school officials, were practically jumping with anxiety. They burst in, grabbed him, and started dragging him outside.

"What’s wrong? Have you all gone mad?" Principal Li bellowed.

"Hurry, hurry! The entire leadership of Su City, with the Governor himself at the head—they’re all here! They’re asking for you by name and told you to run outside!"

Principal Li’s mind went blank with a BUZZ, and he bolted for the school gate in a flash.

Before he could even speak, he looked up and saw a massive, intimidating crowd of people. From his direct supervisors to the city’s top brass, all of them were staring at him, their eyes practically shooting flames.

Principal Li nearly fainted.

But Chen Hai irritably turned away, ignoring Principal Li. He went straight for the deputy director in charge of schools, education, and culture and dragged him out.

With a powerful kick, Governor Chen sent the deputy director sprawling to the ground.

He leaned over him and roared, "You’re the director in charge! What the hell do you do all day? You nearly ruined the entire moral fabric of Su City and almost destroyed two promising young children! Education is a matter of vital, long-term importance! Schools are the very foundation of the nation! In ancient times, this would be a crime punishable by beheading!"

Chen Hai roared for a full two minutes.

The deputy director for education scrambled to his feet and trotted all the way over to apologize to the parents.

He returned a short while later and first reported to the Governor.

Then, the deputy director turned and fixed Principal Li with a death glare, not saying a single word.

Principal Li, who had been trembling on the ground this whole time, was so terrified he had wet his pants.

Now, seeing the fury in the director’s eyes, he felt as if the man was about to eat him alive.

In his terror, Principal Li shrieked and pointed a finger toward someone from the Police Department. "It was all Old Chen! His two sons were already in the city’s public schools, but he insisted I use my connections to get them into the honors class at Tianjiao! I had no choice!"

With tears and snot streaming down his face, Principal Li wailed, "And the people who beat up the parent this time—they were from the Police Department too!"

THUD. Mr. Chen from the Police Department felt his legs go weak, and he too collapsed to his knees. He was extremely timid and could barely stammer out a complete sentence.

"Dismissed from duty, investigated, and permanently blacklisted!" Chen Hai said with disgust. "He dares to act but won’t take responsibility. A complete waste!"

The deputy director, ever meticulous, added, "His secretary personally led the men who beat up the parent. That’s even more despicable. Deal with him too! The Police Department will conduct a group self-criticism session and submit a report to our Governor Chen immediately."

Principal Li was sprawled on the ground, whimpering, "I was wrong. I’ve failed the two children and Teacher Wang. She reminded us multiple times to be fair and impartial, but I never took her seriously. I’ll go apologize to Teacher Wang!"

"You’re not worthy!" Chen Hai shoved the people around him aside, lunged forward with two flying kicks, and sent Principal Li scrambling to find his own teeth.

"Get in there right now and deal with that Director Zhang! Then clear out your office, pack your things, and get the hell out!"

Chen Hai’s face was contorted with fury. "From now on, I, Chen Hai, will personally serve as the acting principal of Tianjiao Primary School! I don’t need you useless wastes!"

Principal Li scrambled and crawled back into the school building. Over in the admissions office, Director Zhang was still sipping tea and casually playing on his phone.

Seeing Principal Li, he scrambled to his feet with a sycophantic smile. "You’re here about Teacher Wang and those troublemaking parents, I assume? Rest assured, the Police Department is on its way to handle it. I’ve arranged everything. We have to teach that old hag Wang a lesson—this is about your authority, after all."

He even looked proud of himself as he asked, "What do you think? Didn’t I handle that beautifully for you?"

’Beautifully? Oh, you handled it beautifully, all right!’

The corner of Principal Li’s eye twitched. He slowly closed the door... and then he picked up a nearby iron stool.

Instantly, blood-curdling screams, like the wails of ghosts and howls of wolves, echoed from the admissions office.
