Chapter 4: Chapter 4: Snatching a Bride on the Long Street
Holding an umbrella in one hand and cradling the still-weak Niannian in the other, Qin Tianxuan strode out of the camp, heading straight for Jinfeng Avenue.
The rain grew heavier!
"Daddy, where are you taking me?" the frail girl asked, nestled in the man’s arms, her voice laced with fear.
"Daddy’s taking you to see Aunt Han!" Qin Tianxuan said softly.
"Ah! I’m scared... That Uncle Zhao is terrifying. He hits me whenever he gets angry."
Pain flashed in Qin Tianxuan’s eyes as he hugged his daughter tighter. "Don’t be afraid, Niannian. That will never happen again!"
"Really?" Niannian’s small body was still trembling.
"Daddy always keeps his promises!" Qin Tianxuan said, quickening his pace through the autumn rain as he held the umbrella high.
At that moment, Jiangning’s Jinfeng Avenue had been cordoned off. Despite the falling autumn rain, it was adorned with festive lanterns and banners, bustling with a tide of people.
Today was the wedding day of Zhao Wuji, the Young Master of the Golden Cauldron Commerce Association. The Five Great Clans and twelve prominent families had all come to offer their congratulations. At this moment, the prestige of the Jiangning Zhao Family had reached its zenith.
In a private room on the top floor of the Ruyi Grand Hotel, Zhao Wuji stood before the floor-to-ceiling windows, a glass of red wine in hand. He gazed out at the bustling city below. At this moment, the entire city lay at his feet.
’The future is destined to be mine!’
He sneered at the stunningly beautiful woman across from him. "Han Biwei, a wedding that has the whole city on lockdown, with all the prominent families gathered—what more could you possibly want?"
He threw a wedding dress at her. "With the Five Great Clans and twelve prominent families backing my Zhao Family, are we still not good enough for a sickly beauty from a fallen family like yours?"
The woman opposite him was dressed in white, her complexion just as pale. But in her frail state, she possessed a stunning beauty.
Her eyes were bright as she let out a couple of weak coughs. "Zhao Wuji, let me see Niannian. Let me see the child, and I’ll agree to anything!"
Zhao Wuji, the eldest son of the Jiangning Zhao Family, snorted. "I really don’t get it. She’s not even your own daughter, yet you’re willing to sacrifice everything for a little brat!"
"Her mother saved my life. On her deathbed, she entrusted the child to me. I already consider her my own flesh and blood. A beast like you would never understand that kind of bond!" Han Biwei replied coldly.
SLAP!
Zhao Wuji sent her sprawling to the floor with a slap.
"Bitch! If your Han Family wasn’t from a line of scholars and I didn’t need you as a respectable front, you think I’d give a damn about a sickly fool like you? With a single word from me, the beauty queens of Jiangning would spread their legs for me, you get it?!"
Zhao Wuji was furious, enraged by Han Biwei’s cold, disdainful expression.
He stood up, adjusted his suit, and leaned down to look at the girl, whose left cheek was red and swollen. "Put on some makeup. Cover up that handprint with some powder. I don’t want our guests to see a joke!"
Han Biwei was forcibly dragged into the dressing room.
Just then, Housekeeper Zhao came in, his face pale. "Young Master Wuji, we just received word. The South City Orphanage was raided, and it seems that little wretch was rescued."
Zhao Wuji was completely unconcerned. "Have Zhao Hu take a team to check it out. Just get rid of that little wretch and save us the trouble!"
Housekeeper Zhao frowned. "Young Master, we don’t know who we’re dealing with. Shouldn’t we investigate first?"
"Investigate what?" Zhao Wuji straightened his suit. "This is Jiangning. Is there anyone here more powerful than my Zhao Family? Hm?"
Housekeeper Zhao didn’t dare say another word and turned to leave.
At 9:30, all the guests had arrived.
Zhao Wuji appeared at the open-air wedding venue, and the crowd erupted in thunderous applause.
He waved arrogantly. A festive canopy had been erected overhead, yet two-thirds of the guests were forced to stand in the rain, wearing sycophantic smiles.
Gifts filled the long street. Gold dust was sprinkled over Persian rugs, and jade carvings of a dragon and a phoenix flanked the path.
Resplendent and utterly extravagant!
Supported by two sturdy women, Han Biwei was brought out. She hadn’t eaten in a day and a night and was now incredibly weak.
A white wedding dress, a graceful figure, and eyes full of despair.
’I hope Niannian is safe. As long as she is, falling into this den of monsters doesn’t matter. It’s only death, after all.’
"No need to wait for the bride’s family. I’ll visit the Han Family of Su City after we’re married!" Zhao Wuji ordered imperiously. "Where’s the emcee? Start the ceremony now!"
The wedding ceremony officially began.
It proceeded in an orderly fashion, punctuated by constant applause from the crowd.
Only the bride remained silent, looking completely lifeless.
The atmosphere grew strange. The guests could all tell something was wrong with the bride, and a sense of awkwardness settled over the crowd.
"I assume everyone here has come to bless the newlyweds, so I don’t suppose anyone objects, right?" the emcee joked, trying to lighten the mood.
The guests all broke into laughter.
’It’s the wedding of the Young Master of the Jiangning Zhao Family. Who would dare object?’
Zhao Wuji also laughed wildly, surveying the crowd from the high platform. "Excellent. It’s my wedding day. Who dares to object?"
The entire venue fell deathly silent!
Suddenly, a deep, cold voice shattered the silence: "I object!"
From the other end of the street, Qin Tianxuan emerged through the autumn rain, umbrella in hand. He stood proudly amidst the wind and rain, his daughter in his arms.
His cry of objection seemed to drift unhurriedly down the entire street, piercing the ears of everyone present.
At that moment, the rain suddenly stopped. The sun broke through, bathing the world in light!
The autumn rain had stopped. Everyone at the Jinfeng Avenue wedding was utterly stunned!
A shiver ran down every guest’s spine!
Fuck!
’Holy shit... is someone really fucking crashing the wedding?’
