Celestial Night Emperor

Chapter 50: The Fallen Phoenix

Chapter 50: Chapter 50: The Fallen Phoenix

Inside Frost Plum Courtyard, Han Qian Jun and Jiang Wan Jun were up early, helping their granddaughter Niannian pack her school bag.

The school enrollment was already taken care of, and she would be starting soon. They had bought Niannian a new school bag and, in one go, three sets of stationery.

Han Biwei, however, hadn’t slept well. She had held her phone all last night, wanting to call Qin Tianxuan but not knowing what to say.

’After all, our marriage is a fake one. And I’m not his real wife. If I say too much, won’t it seem like I’m being nosy?’

Her thoughts were overly delicate. Recalling the night she had shared a bed with the man made her feel shy, and even more embarrassed to make the call.

’There’s been no news all night, which is probably a good thing. He couldn’t have actually gone to the Gu Family’s home to start a fight, could he?’

When morning came, Han Biwei pulled herself together. She decided to buy a gift and go to the Gu Family to clear things up properly. She absolutely could not let this matter harm Niannian and Tianxuan!

But she had just stepped out of her bedroom, not yet having made breakfast for Niannian, when the landlady came walking in from outside.

This old woman was a well-known landlord in the neighborhood. Her family had received several properties after a demolition and redevelopment deal, which was how she’d built these few small courtyards to rent out.

"Auntie, what brings you here?" Han Biwei greeted her hastily.

But the woman’s face was grim. She walked in and pointed a finger. "Hurry up, pack your things and get out. I don’t have room for your family here!"

Han Biwei was stunned. "What... What’s going on?"

From inside, Han Qian Jun and Jiang Wan Jun also came out. "What’s wrong?"

The woman’s eyelids drooped. "My temple is small, it can’t accommodate your lot of monsters and demons. Don’t say anything else, just move out!"

Han Biwei bit her lip. "Auntie, we signed a contract. I also paid a security deposit!"

"Oh, and do you have any idea how much of a loss you’ve caused me? Don’t worry, I’ll return your rent. But the deposit, you paid that voluntarily. It’ll take me a long time to find a new tenant, so who’s going to compensate me for that loss?"

The old woman said menacingly, "They say a phoenix in dire straits is worse off than a chicken, and it’s really true. You’re from the great Han Family, and you’re still going to covet my little bit of money?"

Han Biwei swallowed her anger and pleaded desperately, "My child is about to start school, we really can’t move out like this. Auntie, what is this all about?"

"What is it about? At first, I thought that even though you were kicked out of the Han Family, you were still a former young miss. I figured I could bask in some of your reflected glory, so I gave you the lowest price. Who knew you’d dare to offend the Gu Family!"

The old woman yelled, "The Gu Family isn’t someone you can afford to offend! Do you still think you’re some rich young miss? I’ve heard all about it. Let me tell you, Han Biwei, my two sons and my daughter all work for the Gu Family’s company, so that makes me one of the Gu Family’s people. Now get out!"

As she spoke, she grabbed Han Biwei, dragged her into the room, and started inspecting the place.

"I need to get a good look. There are a lot of valuable things in this room, you know. Don’t you go stealing any of them!"

It was just a few home appliances and two small wooden beds, yet the old woman inspected every single thing.

Han Biwei was so angry she trembled all over.

Gritting her teeth, she looked at Niannian standing in the courtyard. Her heart ached, and she almost fell to her knees before the landlady.

"Auntie, please give me a few more days, just a few days. Once I’ve settled my parents and my child has started school smoothly, I... I promise I’ll move out!"

"No way. I can’t wait. Scram, now!"

The old woman snatched Niannian’s school bag from the side and threw it out. "What, do I have to call people to throw you out? Han Biwei, I’m already giving you face here. The last tenant who didn’t know their place, I had someone come and beat them until they left! Hmph, hurry up!"

Han Biwei stood there, hugging Niannian who had rushed over to her. Her gaze suddenly grew determined. "Niannian, we’re leaving right now. I refuse to believe there isn’t a place for the two of us in all of Su City!"

She didn’t want to cry anymore. Instead, she would hold her head high and face these hardships!

She had made it through worse.

Just then, the father and son pair, Gu Weiqi and Gu Yuxuan, appeared at the main gate, peeking in furtively. Behind them, attendants carried box after box of gifts.

Ah!

Han Biwei saw them and jumped in fright.

"Weiwei, my dear, it’s me, your Uncle Gu." Gu Weiqi walked in with a cheerful smile. Following behind him, Gu Yuxuan hung his head, forcing a weak smile.

Before Han Biwei could speak, the old landlady ran over in delighted surprise. "Oh, it’s President Gu and Young Master Gu! My two sons and my daughter all work for your family’s company. At the last company party, I even took a photo with the Young Master!"

Gu Yuxuan said impatiently, "Shut up. I don’t have time for you right now. If you need something, go to the company’s HR department!"

Gu Weiqi, however, frowned at her. "You work for my company? Then what are you doing here?"

The old woman chuckled obsequiously, proudly trying to take credit. "I heard about this wretched woman, Han Biwei, and came to tell her to scram. You see, she’s renting my place. Since I’m one of the Old Gu Family’s people, of course I had to help the Young Master vent his anger..."

She babbled on.

Gu Yuxuan was so furious his eyes almost popped out of their sockets. He swung his arm around and—SLAP!—gave her a huge slap across the face.

The old woman was stunned, holding her face and trembling in fear.

Gu Yuxuan was absolutely livid. ’The Gu Family finally gets a chance like this, and you have to go looking for trouble? Aren’t you just stabbing us in the back?’

He raised his hand to strike her again, but Gu Weiqi stopped him. Gu Weiqi’s expression was also incredibly grim. "This is your house? Fine. I’ll buy it right now and give it to Weiwei. Are you selling or not?"

The old woman’s lips trembled, and for a moment, she was at a loss.

"If you don’t sell, your two sons and one daughter can pack their things and get the hell out, effective immediately!" Gu Weiqi lowered his voice, hissing through clenched teeth, "Believe it or not, I could have you killed."

The old woman cried out, finally understanding. So Han Biwei and the Gu Family had reconciled long ago.

She wrung her hands in a panic. "I’ll... I’ll sell. I’ll sell it right now."

Watching all this, Han Biwei herself was stunned.
