Chapter 54: Chapter 54: Bag Clash
Han Biwei’s discretion did nothing to quell a certain woman’s anger.
And that woman was Li Qian!
She was seething with hatred and wouldn’t let such a good opportunity pass her by.
"Weiwei, you used to be the great young lady of the Han Family. Your family was the wealthiest in our class, and you even had a butler drive you to school. What happened? Have you fallen on hard times?"
Yuan Jingjing slammed her hand on the table in a rage. "Li Qian, what do you think you’re saying? Did you just come here to rub salt in her wounds?"
"I’m talking to Weiwei. What’s it to you?" Li Qian slammed the table as well.
With a placid smile, Han Biwei picked up her bag and stood. "I have to go. You all can keep chatting. You’re welcome to visit my place sometime. I’ve rented a small courtyard house in the southern part of the city. It’s not a luxury home in a top school district or a villa, but the surroundings are quite nice."
Her words made everyone blush with shame.
These old classmates weren’t truly bad people. They apologized on the spot. "That’s not what we meant, Weiwei. If you’re struggling, we can all pitch in to help."
But Han Biwei remained composed and was still intent on leaving.
Everyone looked to Zhang Haodong. He was the host, and he’d always been so infatuated with Weiwei. Surely he would get up and stop her?
But to everyone’s surprise, Zhang Haodong’s expression had already changed. With his arm around Li Qian, he asked bluntly, "So you really got kicked out of the Han Family? You’re not their precious young lady anymore?"
Li Qian said smugly, "I know all about it. I have a friend at the Han Family Group. It’s true—even her parents were kicked out!"
The disappointment on Zhang Haodong’s face was immense.
He was in charge of business development at the Dongshen Financial Group and was under a lot of pressure to perform. He’d heard the Han Family had a huge deal with the Battle Department, brokered by none other than Li Xiaohai, the young master of Changshan Group. He had hoped to use his connection as Han Biwei’s former classmate to get a piece of the pie.
Who knew Han Biwei had fallen so completely from grace? ’What’s the point now?’
Zhang Haodong was just that snobbish! No one could have predicted how quickly his attitude would change!
Yuan Jingjing was so furious she was on the verge of cursing them out. She grabbed Weiwei’s hand. "I’m so sorry. I had no idea they were this shameless. They just wanted to humiliate you!"
Han Biwei’s face was pale, but she steeled herself and slowly sat back down.
’I can’t just leave with my tail between my legs. No matter how embarrassing this gets, I’m staying for this dinner!’
As she set her white handbag down, Li Qian, who was sitting opposite her, suddenly stared with wide eyes. "Wait a minute. Where did you get that bag?"
Han Biwei was baffled. "My husband bought it for me."
All the classmates were taken aback. "Weiwei, when did you get married?"
Zhang Haodong, however, was utterly disappointed. ’So she’s already married? Already been used by someone else. Damn it, and here I was hoping for a chance to have a taste!’
Meanwhile, Li Qian produced a white handbag of her own.
They had the same bag!
The handbags were identical, apart from a slight difference in the length of the handles.
Li Qian’s eyes darted. "Oh, Weiwei, you poor thing. The great young lady of the Han Family, now reduced to buying knockoffs!" She fiddled with her own bag. "This is the Chanel ’White Diamond Devotion’. It’s not sold in stores; they’re all custom-made. There are only four in the entire world, and each one is worth two hundred thousand!"
A limited edition of only four in the entire world—naturally, that was something the Han Biwei of today could never afford.
Over two hundred thousand...
The price was terrifying—and for just a bag!
But one of the classmates at the table couldn’t help but mutter, "The ’White Diamond Devotion’... I heard the handles are made entirely of diamonds. Isn’t it worth twenty *million*?"
Twenty million?!
Li Qian jumped, startled. She looked to Zhang Haodong. "Honey, is that true?"
Beads of sweat broke out on Zhang Haodong’s forehead. Li Qian’s bag was the fake one—a high-quality, one-to-one custom replica that cost over two thousand—but a fake nonetheless.
But a glance at Han Biwei calmed him down. ’They’re both fakes. But with my current status and income, if I say Li Qian’s is the real one, no one will doubt me.’
Zhang Haodong’s expression relaxed. "Qianqian, let’s drop it. A lot of people use high-quality fakes nowadays."
This only made Yuan Jingjing angrier. She took Han Biwei’s bag. "I bet Weiwei’s is the real one. The handle is all diamonds, right?" As she spoke, she turned over the understated handle, revealing rows of brilliant white diamonds linked with platinum.
"Yep, this looks real no matter how you slice it!"
Li Qian, furious, flipped over her own bag’s handle. "Mine are the real diamonds!"
But the "diamonds" on her bag were dull and colorless. Even someone who knew nothing about jewelry could tell the difference.
Zhang Haodong was terrified. He shot Li Qian a harsh glare. "This is a class reunion, not a competition to see who’s richer! Qianqian, come with me. Let’s go pick out some good wine!"
Yuan Jingjing’s eyes darted about as a bold idea suddenly struck her. "Weiwei, maybe the one your husband bought is actually real!"
Han Biwei herself was starting to have her doubts. She recalled the time the helicopter had come to pick her up. ’No matter what,’ she thought, ’Tianxuan doesn’t seem like the type to lie!’
But...
"He could never afford a bag worth two hundred thousand!"
Yuan Jingjing mumbled, "It’s not two hundred thousand. It’s twenty *million*!"
She pulled out her phone, opened the official Chanel website, and scrolled to the last page. There they were: the four globally limited ’White Diamond Devotion’ handbags.
And sure enough, the price was twenty million!
Han Biwei instantly relaxed, bending over with laughter. "Well, that settles it one hundred percent. My husband definitely bought a fake!"
If it were two hundred thousand, maybe, just maybe, Qin Tianxuan could have gotten the money from somewhere without telling her.
But twenty million? Ha! You could sell the man himself and still not have enough.
She put the bag down decisively and grabbed Jingjing, who was still muttering to herself. "Come get some fresh air with me. It’s going to be awkward when Zhang Haodong and Li Qian come back."
The two women left as well.
The remaining classmates looked at each other, dumbfounded.
"Lao Liu, you’re in the luxury goods business. Be straight with us. Which bag was the real one?"
