After speaking, Jane Sampson laughed triumphantly, hugged the puppy, broke free from James Black’s grip, giggled, and ran out of the room grabbing her coat.
Jane Sampson’s laughter on the way down the building was as crisp as a lark, making the mansion particularly lively.
Old Master Black downstairs found it hard not to hear it.
"Little lass, what happened that made you so happy?" Old Master Black called out to Jane Sampson who came downstairs, "Come over and have some red bean soup, Aunt just cooked it."
"Is there anything else? I’m so hungry." Jane Sampson put the puppy on the ground level, walked towards Old Master Black, picked up the bowl of red bean soup already warm on the tabletop, drank two big gulps, and patted her belly, "I didn’t have breakfast this morning, slept one sleep until now, woke up hungry."
James Black came down from upstairs and happened to hear Jane Sampson say that she woke up hungry, recalling what she just said about being awakened by a smell, which again was from downstairs. James Black’s mouth twitched a bit imperceptibly.
"There’s also your favorite runny yolk bun, freshly steamed, just right to eat." Aunt came out of the kitchen with a plate of Jane Sampson’s favorite runny yolk bun, "But don’t eat too much, just cushion your belly, soon it’s time for lunch, eat too much and you won’t be able to eat it."
"I’ll just eat one." Jane Sampson raised one finger, then pinched a bun and took a small bite, happily squinting her eyes.
Seeing James Black coming over to her, Jane Sampson took a big bite, then offered the remaining one-third to James Black’s mouth, "It’s so delicious, try it."
James Black opened his mouth and ate the remaining bit.
Then he saw Jane Sampson reach out and take another one, taking another bite.
"Didn’t you just say you’d eat one?" James Black asked her.
"Yes, just one, but I didn’t finish the last one, and gave half to you, so I have to eat another half to match the previous half to make it a whole." Jane Sampson replied confidently.
Old Master Black beside her couldn’t help but laugh repeatedly.
For the sake of food, Jane Sampson had certainly gone to great lengths.
Jane Sampson ate another one, leaving only a third, and naturally offered it to James Black’s mouth again, "You have half, I have half, we eat one together."
James Black opened his mouth, and whether intentionally or unintentionally, gently bit Jane Sampson’s fingertip.
Jane Sampson glared at him, then heard James Black ask her, "Which mangy dog taught you this calculation?"
"You’re annoying!" Jane Sampson stomped her foot and gulped down the red bean soup, completely ignoring James Black.
This time, she finished the entire bowl of red bean soup, not leaving a single red bean for James Black.
Seeing Jane Sampson’s mood was not affected a bit, still playfully laughing and pouting like before, Old Master Black felt reassured.
"Jane, do you want to come over and see the scene video of the Carter Family press reception today?" Old Master Black invited Jane Sampson cheerfully to go online, "Then go check your twitter?"
Jane Sampson’s expression obviously changed a bit, subconsciously seeking out James Black, tilting her head to look at him.
"Go ahead and watch." James Black gave Jane Sampson a reassuring gaze.
Only then did Jane Sampson put down the bowl and sat next to Old Master Black, watching the Carter Family’s press reception video from this morning together. During Jane Sampson’s viewing of the video, neither Old Master Black nor James Black could bear to speak up and disrupt her.
