Father Carter’s old friend suggested, "If she were normal, we could leave her alone, but in her current state, if we continue to neglect her, who knows what might happen."
"Okay, I understand." Father Carter suppressed his inner shock and thanked him, "If she goes to the base again, give me a call."
After hanging up the phone, Father Carter called his wife and told her about Jillian Carter’s situation.
"With how she is now, if we truly ignore her, she’s driving back and forth every day. If something happens, she’ll suffer, and others will too." Father Carter feared most that Jillian Carter might hit a passerby.
"But how do we manage it?" Gwendolyn Young asked, "We don’t even know what the real situation is, nor do we know if it’s real or fake. That child’s tactics are really endless and beyond our imagination. Just over a month ago, she was constantly on the twitter hot search, photographed every day going shopping in the mall, looking perfectly normal."
"Back then, we cut off the relationship with her and promised Jane that we wouldn’t take care of Jillian Carter’s matters anymore. It’s only been so long, and are we parents going to break our promise?" Gwendolyn Young was also conflicted, but if they don’t count it, and Jillian Carter is truly insane, letting it go like this, who knows what big event might happen later.
Gwendolyn Young was stuck between a rock and a hard place.
"Jane just called me today saying she wanted to come stay with her grandparents for two days, she booked tomorrow’s flight, and dad and mom just said in the WhatsApp group that they’re preparing lots of delicious food for Jane; Jane was so happy." "Alright, call Jane and tell her about Jillian Carter frankly. Tell her we’ll first find a doctor to examine Jillian Carter to see if she’s truly insane or just pretending. If she’s truly insane, we’ll send her to a sanatorium for treatment. If she’s pretending, then we won’t bother with her."
Father Carter said, "But before Jane agrees, we can’t do anything about this. Tell Jane, even if Jillian Carter is actually insane, the most we’ll do is find her a doctor and send her to a specialized sanatorium. Beyond that, we won’t involve ourselves."
It wasn’t that Father Carter was heartless; he simply couldn’t bear to hurt Jane Sampson, his biological daughter, any further.
As a father, he owed Jillian Carter nothing. If Jillian Carter truly turned out to be insane, finding her a doctor would be the last act of kindness he could muster for her.
"Alright, I’ll follow your lead." Gwendolyn Young agreed.
After hanging up, Gwendolyn Young sighed repeatedly.
She truly couldn’t be sure whether Jillian Carter’s insanity was real or fake.
On one hand, Gwendolyn Young hoped it was fake, considering she had been perfectly fine before.
But on the other hand, Gwendolyn Young hoped it was real, because if Jillian Carter was pretending to be insane to gain attention and forgiveness from the family, then her mind was truly frighteningly deep.
If someone can pretend to be insane in front of others, what else wouldn’t they do?
A person like this, if pushed to the brink, really could do anything.
Jane Sampson received Gwendolyn Young’s call while she was packing her luggage in James Black’s dormitory.
James Black just stood next to her, showing no intention of lending a helping hand.
