"Three-meter axe?" The image of a three-meter big axe appeared in Jane Sampson’s mind, and she couldn’t hold back, bursting into laughter.
Someone who was frightened awake by a nightmare a second ago is lying there laughing like a fool the next second.
"Not scared anymore?" James Black’s arm slid under her head, letting her use it as a pillow.
"Still a little scared, but I feel more like laughing." Jane snuggled closer to James Black, puckering her lips at him, "I want a kiss for comfort."
"Such a baby." James Black tapped Jane Sampson’s forehead with his fingertip, not hard, just a small petting motion full of affection.
He leaned over to give her a kiss and then tucked her quilt, "Close your eyes and go to sleep, tomorrow morning you have to get up early to go to the airport."
Only then did Jane Sampson let out a satisfied sound, closed her eyes, and slowly fell asleep again in James Black’s arms.
The next morning, Jane Sampson got off the airplane after ten o’clock, picked up her luggage, and at the doorway saw James Carter, leaning on a cane, waving at her, with her mom standing next to him, smiling as she watched her approach.
"Mom!" Jane Sampson dragged her luggage and rushed towards the two.
"Hey! Slow down! Slow down! Don’t run, careful not to trip!" Gwendolyn Young’s heart was in her throat the moment she saw Jane’s speed, quickly stepping forward to meet her daughter.
"Mom!" Jane Sampson directly hugged her mother, her laughter crisp, "My legs are good, I’m steady."
"Your legs are fine, but mom is getting old, and her heart isn’t good. Next time don’t run like this; it’s scary." Gwendolyn Young shook her head in a mix of laughter and tears, raising her hand to pat Jane’s arm, took a look, and asked, "Have you gained some weight?"
James Carter came over just in time to hear his mother’s words, and he immediately looked up at Jane Sampson. Sure enough, the expression of the girl, who was smiling brightly just now, was now as if thunder-struck.
"Mom? Is my weight gain that obvious?" Jane Sampson touched her face with some worry.
"This time it’s a bit noticeable." Gwendolyn Young nodded sincerely, "Have you been resting recently, staying at the base all day with James Black, and sneaking snacks while he’s not around? Have you not been exercising much?"
"Though I don’t work out every day, James Black drags me out for a morning run every two days, and sometimes when there’s nothing to do in the evening, I go to the base gym with him." Jane Sampson stomped her foot, "He keeps urging me to eat more every single day. I didn’t pay attention, and ended up eating my face round!"
Jane Sampson was quite exasperated.
When she and James Black ate meals, he not only ate a lot himself but also kept serving food to her, constantly saying she’s too thin and should eat more.
"A little rounder looks better than before, you see how much healthier you look recently. Eating well is good for your health." Gwendolyn Young felt delighted.
It’s great that Jane Sampson has put on some weight; she was really too slim before, her face hardly had any flesh.
"You’re not that round, still a small face like a palm." James Carter extended his palm over Jane Sampson’s face, then laughingly took her luggage from her.
"Brother is comforting me, right? But, Brother, don’t you think your palm is particularly large?" Jane Sampson had a little bit of playful disdain, "You see how long your fingers are, when you spread your palm like this, just imagine how big the face would have to be to match it?"
James Carter chuckled softly, "You’re just like Oscar Wilson, a palm-sized face."
