"Nobody invites her because she flat-out refuses to meet up with us classmates. We classmates do call her, but she doesn’t like it, so she simply stops seeing us. After high school graduation, she never came to every high school reunion." Peter Gingery shrugged. "Back in the past, the seniors in the house gave her the name ’Charlotte’ just because they thought it sounded nice. Who knew it would end up like this later."
The two of them ran with the topic of names that had sounded really nice at first but later became too awkward to even look at, based on what they’d heard over the years.
James Black couldn’t get a word in on the topic between Jane Sampson and Peter Gingery, so he could only play the role of a dutiful food supplier, constantly picking vegetables into Jane Sampson’s bowl. Watching Jane Sampson finish a big bowl of rice and then still be able to lift the bowl and slurp down soup, James Black finally understood where Jane Sampson’s recently increased body weight had come from.
He hadn’t seen her for over a month; Jane Sampson really could eat a lot now.
Don’t be fooled by how busy she looked chatting with Peter Gingery—she didn’t slack off on eating at all.
Watching her eating before, James Black had worried that her portions were too small and she wouldn’t get full.
Now James Black was worried Jane Sampson would unknowingly eat until she burst.
"Are you still eating?" James Black seized the moment when Jane Sampson lifted her head to talk to Peter Gingery and quietly asked her.
"Of course! I haven’t finished the soup yet!" Jane Sampson pointed at the soup next to her, then turned to look at James Black. "Do you want some too?"
As she spoke, Jane Sampson pushed the fish soup toward James Black, stretched her head over to peek at the soup by James Black’s hand. "I’ll share my fish soup with you; I want to taste your soup."
Peter Gingery burst out laughing. "My brother’s just afraid you’ll stuff yourself! Your appetite now is honestly terrifying, Jane Sampson."
"Right now I’m eating for two, you know. People online say a good appetite is better than not being able to eat." Jane Sampson rubbed her own belly. "I don’t feel stuffed."
"Then just eat a little more." James Black handed his tomato and egg soup to Jane Sampson. "Drink some soup, but stop eating rice."
"What my brother really means is that he thinks you eat too much and wants you to take it easy and stop eating." Peter Gingery couldn’t help adding a snarky line, and before he could get a second sentence out, James Black kicked him under the table.
"If you can’t talk properly, then shut up. You’ve been yapping this whole one night." James Black had been wanting to pick Peter Gingery up and toss him aside for a long time.
Jane Sampson had been back for so long, and he still hadn’t talked to her as much as Peter Gingery had.
Noisy.
Those were the two characters James Black really wanted to stamp across Peter Gingery’s forehead.
Peter Gingery finally quieted down, curling up like a quail in the corner of the table and obediently eating his meal.
"Want to eat anything else? I’ll get it for you." Only then did James Black turn back to talk to Jane Sampson. "We’re going to the hospital for an examination tomorrow. If the doctor says you can’t eat too much, I’ll supervise you and cut down your meals."
That one sentence from James Black made Jane Sampson really open up her belly to eat—and she really did eat until she was too full.
When they walked out of the cafeteria, Jane Sampson got laughed at by Peter Gingery the whole way.
On the way back to the dormitory, James Black’s hand gradually filled up with more and more stuff.
Everyone knew Jane Sampson was in pregnancy now, so they’d specially brought her good food. This time everyone was finally reliable for once; they all brought things pregnant woman could eat. Looked like everyone did their homework before heading out this time.
Maybe they were afraid Jane Sampson would refuse, so they just shoved the stuff into Jane Sampson’s or James Black’s hand. Before Jane Sampson could even see clearly who it was, the person had already turned and run off, dashing away like a gust of wind.
By the time the two of them got back to the dormitory, they found that there was another pile of stuff stacked up again at the doorway of the dormitory.
