"I really never thought Jillian Carter’s ending would be like this." Oscar Wilson said, "We waited one day and one night for the result. It’s not surprising, but it’s still a pity."
"But then again, there’s actually nothing to feel pity about. Every road Jillian Carter took, she chose step by step on her own. The fact that it ended like this was also her own choice." Oscar Wilson thought that for Jillian Carter, this might not be a kind of release.
Jane Sampson held the mobile phone in silence for a few seconds, then slowly began to speak.
"Last night, when I was in the Bed, I had a dream. In the dream, it seemed like someone said ’I’m sorry’ to me." When Jane Sampson woke up, she thought it was just a dream.
So she didn’t dare tell anyone that the voice in the dream sounded exactly like Jillian Carter.
When James Black got back upstairs, Jane Sampson was just sitting on the neatly made in the Bed in a daze; she didn’t even notice him coming in the building.
"What’s wrong?" James Black lifted his hand and waved it in front of Jane Sampson’s eyes.
"Oscar Wilson was just now making a call to me, said they found Jillian Carter’s remains. Last night I had a dream, I dreamed Jillian Carter said ’I’m sorry’ to me." Jane Sampson wrapped her arms around James Black’s waist. "My heart feels a bit sad, and a bit regretful."
Jane Sampson’s eyes were a little red. "If I’d known it would turn out like this, I would have..."
"It has nothing to do with you." James Black cut her off. "So there is no ’if I’d known it would be like this’. Between you and Jillian Carter, from beginning to end, you were the victim, Jane. As for his death, we can feel it’s a pity, but there’s no need to feel indebted."
"And also." James Black tapped Jane Sampson’s forehead. "A pregnant woman is not allowed to be unhappy, and definitely not to frown all day long."
"Because being in a bad mood during pregnancy will affect the baby." Jane Sampson knew this. "So I’ll just be sad for this short while."
"Right, if you keep frowning, you’ll give birth to a baby with a bitter melon face." James Black explained very seriously.
"A bitter melon face baby?" How could anyone say something like that with such a dead-serious expression?
"Why do people sometimes only realize how important something is after they lose it? If they could cherish it properly while they still had it and not lose it, wouldn’t that be great." This was what Jane Sampson truly felt was a pity on Jillian Carter’s behalf.
Whether it was her relatives and family, or that child who never got to come into this world, or Joseph Shaw, when Jillian Carter had them, she didn’t cherish them; only after losing them did she know the pain.
It was a shame that everyone gave her so many chances to turn back, yet she squandered every single one.
"Come on, let’s go back to the base." James Black stood up and went to the cloakroom to get a coat for Jane Sampson. "It’s windy outdoors, put on this thicker one. You can’t catch a cold during pregnancy."
Jane Sampson nodded, then suddenly let out a soft "huh". "Your cold is gone? That fast? It’s only been one day and you’re better? Your voice sounds normal too!"
"You only just noticed?" James Black snorted. Truly his good wife.
"I’m in good shape, training during daytime and working up a sweat, of course the cold got better." Afraid his cold wouldn’t go away, James Black had even drunk two doses of cold medicine at noon, worried that if he didn’t get better and Jane Sampson stayed with him, he might pass it on to her.
Actually, the best way was to let Jane Sampson stay at the Black Residence, but James Black really couldn’t bear it; he still wanted her to stay at the base and keep him company for two days.
"When will Joseph Shaw be back?" Jane Sampson asked as she put on her coat.
